The 100: S2E08 Spacewalker - First time watching!

Comments

If someone came to your city/village, took people hostage accusing them of thing they haven't done and then killed them for no reason you'd be pissed too. Clarke killed warriors that were attacking them, finn killed innocent people. No context nor mental state could justify that. The grounders let them off easy. Murphy killed people and was pardonned by his people. Finn needed to answer his crime to the people he committed it against, his people judging him would not be justice

yessss

Finn killed defenseless women, children and elders, they were in a pen for heavens sake! All other killing done by the 100 were guards or fighters I believe. What Finn did was out of line and they were more than fair to ask for him in exchange for peace. I am glad Clarke killed him so he didn't have to suffer though. I liked Finn and didn't want to see him die, but I can't fault the justice.

It’s really great seeing your comments for the past few episodes. You guys are fully diving into the moral dilemmas of the show. As I wrote in the past, there’s a lot of great acting and the show really places you in the grey zone, having to give your own interpretation of who’s right and who’s wrong. As time goes on, you’ll notice another MAJOR theme in the show…one that infuriated me at first, but one I ultimately came to appreciate. Because it reflects the ‘real world’….. I look forward to you guys discovering it. As always, great reactions.

Chris07

This is such an emotional episode 🥺 Great reaction as always! Didn’t think I’d cry again at the end but I did. I love how you two appreciate the growing complexity of the situations & characters.

👍 Agree. They chose to film it in such a way as to maintain the potential element of surprise....... over the quickest, most humane way to end Finn's life. (I remember at the time, not everyone watching was sure of what Clarke was doing. Viewers nowadays see it coming more.)

Wendy Sparks

I agree with Wendy ^... I really enjoyed Finn in season 1 but his bizarre character change just to find Clarke was so bizarre. He needed to go and at least his death let's the plot move forward. I'm a little annoyed that Clarke still gave him such a painful death... she could have done the artery thing in the neck like she did for the fog boy in season one, I don't care what people say a gut wound fucking hurts. There's no way he would have kept that quiet and calm during that moment. I saw a couple tough guys on the force get stabbed in the gut and even they moaned louder than finn did. It just made it alot more unrealistic even for a sci-fi TV show. Haha all for that element of surprise. I'm trying to find out if GOT did this first with mance rayder or the 100...... I'm editing this again because I realized Game of thrones also did the same type of death in their last episode too... lol they used the same move twice!!! Still don't know who did it first though.

You guys are right on though. There are so many layers and perspectives that it makes your mind spin. I honestly think that The 100 is one of the best depictions of the cost (on your souls) of survival, and conflicts of tribalism (putting 'your' people above all others). Completely sympathize with Raven's guilt and fear for Finn. Even though trying to throw Murphy to the wolves, and telling Clarke to stab Lexa, was uncool. She wasn't thinking clearly. My heart breaks for her. But it was time for Finn to go. I always think of Finn (and his floppy hair) as the last vestige of the early CW-esque teen romance aspect of the series. Now we can bury that.

Wendy Sparks

Yeah. Agree. And Lexa recognized this when Clarke tries to compare and offer herself up. Lexa knows that Clarke did those things while her life and others were actively on the line, during engagement. That was war, Finn's was a war crime.

Octavia

The distinction that I think is key here..... killing in battle or war is not the same as what Finn did. The grounders attacked because the flare burned down a village, and Jasper's trigger finger botched the peace negotiations. So they were at war / in immediate battle. Even if based on misunderstandings, both sides were reacting to real perceived threat and defended themselves. What Finn did...... was enter a non-combatant village, during a down time..... and with no supportable reason (as Murphy continually pointed out)...... gunned down unarmed non-warriors because he became delusional. This is a code we live by, and abhor breaches of, in our own world. See the My Lai massacre during Vietnam war. It's the difference between war, defending yourself...... and war crimes.

Wendy Sparks

I really love how you worded this

Emmy

That's our Clarke... doing what needs done. It's Raven's reaction that gets me more than anything else. Because the show evolved past what Finn brought to it.

Octavia

Finn was not one of my favorite characters but his death really hit me. I mean he was more than guilty but he still was a kid and his little "I´m scared" and Raven crying hurts. Anyway, I love the little family the kids created, specially in this episode seeing Raven, Clarke and even Bellamy, who had a tough relationship with Finn at the start, were all trying to protect him, just warms my heart.

Bassorelli Chiara

Okay I'm very confused. One, I always remembered Finn dying at the end of season 1 and I completly forgot his semi-villain arc in this season. And two, for some reason I also always recalled Murphy to be the one killing Finn in a completely different setup, like I can clearly see the scene and the stabbing. Like I said, I'm very confused at the moment 😂 I guess that's why it never hurts to rewatch a show !
