in metal this time

okay now its officially done, the model ive released prints well on internet print services for making metal parts.

i always see cages as armor and not a submission thing, thats just my personal preference so seeing it in actual metal making it REAL armor is just xD

okay back to drawing and blade wolf shenanigans with my free time.

i did end up switching back to automotive paint, which means its unwearable but i never made it to be that way anyway so w/e. i have to learn how to just make things fit requirements instead of trying to go overboard again xD

i still cant believe this was just a normal ass plastic 3d print. all those hours of sanding and filling really paid off.

i just put a bunch more clears on it, you can only notice the blemish if you stare directly at it now

i love how shiny it is, i spent about 10 minutes with some ultrafine polish :D

another slow update and abandonment of the cage project

i legit fucked this up today

one side looks amazing, but another side dripped and i tried to patch it up but to no avail :(

and so, after like 3 months trying to get a decent thing out of this... i give up, im done... paint takes days to cure in the florida humidity, i cant wet sand, i cant get i...

finally some progress

i have been working away at this and here is the result of the test pieces i made

these two were not sanded and filled anywhere near as meticulously as the final prints i made

pausing for a month because i hate epoxy

i really want to get this cage done properly and the last epoxy coating didnt work so i am going to try ONE last time. it has taken me 3 actual days of sanding to get all the epoxy off but i am set to start ALL over again with filling, then sanding, then painting, then coating... again.

this has taken up so much time ive not gotten anything else i wanted to get done this month as such i am pausing.

i dont think epoxy is the way to go

i completely redid the test ring. this time i waited till the epoxy was almost set till i dipped and brushed it on and it still left clean spots where the epoxy just dripped away. absolutely infuriating results but ugh what can i do? i think its back to just clear coating with paint, it should be durable and safe enough right?

wait for the epoxy to start setting before just painting it on and leaving it, it will drip from undersides and leave them pretty bare

now i gotta sand the epoxy off the test ring and try again xD, i wanna get this right so its going to be gotten right. next time ill wait ~5min after mixing before i paint the epoxy on

i didnt bother to sand or fill these perfectly unlike the aeromorph and its ring. they got a light coat of gold each and i will epoxy the ring tomorrow as a test. if all goes well i should have EVERYTHING done in a day or two 🤞

Small update and change of course for my cage project

after a few suggestions, thinking it through, and a lot of consideration i decided to scrap my first test pieces which were done using clear coat and am making some new test pieces to try epoxy resin on. i also had to wait till after my birthday to afford some epoxy (this stuff is like 3x the price of a can of clear enamel)

luckily i had an older wolf's head cage i printed and i stripped all the paint from my first test ring so now we start the epoxy journey tomorrow once this gold pain...

final stretch

wet sanding the inside and outside, once it dries it gets one more 2500 grit sanding, a washing, then wet sanding, then washing then PAINT! then im debating between clear enamel paint or clear epoxy (which would require so much sanding and buffing agh!). enamel is not skin or food safe and wears away, epoxy would be skin and food safe but require so much more post processing. i might have to do a test piece with epoxy

little bit of an update

im working on a howto to finish up 3d prints, ive been learning alot about primer and paints and such working on finishing this 3d printed cage.

i got two comms coming up soon to share, more blade wolf as well since i got a female bits set setup for them. also some tweaked sims 4 mods (yeah, i dunno why but i fixed a sims mod i really like that got broken and i wanna share a patch for it). buttplugio support for dcs is still being worked on.

finally got around to dehyrdating a spool of plastic and test printing this, after about a day of sanding its very smooth and i just gotta procure some filler to fill the last imperfections out.

i dont have the time and my 3d printer hasnt worked since the hurricane mess to actually print and test any functionality. it is 100% meant as just a desk ornament or something to use in 3d software for fun.

i have not done a test print or fit or anything, i have however printed a very similar model before though never anything functional. if you actually plan on using it, youll have to size the ring yourself to actually be usable but i will also record a quick demo on how to do that us...
