FIRST TIME WATCHING: Black Sails S4 Episode XXXI

Comments

Woods Rogers was a real historical figure... Governor of the Bahamas twice, ten years apart. So he wouldn't be dying anytime soon. Whereas the real Teach took a pardon in 1718, then reneged after a couple of months and returned to piracy... he was hunted down and his head cut off & displayed (latter 1718). They're tweaking it for their own storytelling... but not surprising outcomes. Same for Vane.

The way they (tried to) kill Teach is called Killhold (basically dragging under the ship so the barnacles slice you up)... the idea is that you either drown or die from bleeding out. It also gets sharks closer so they can eat the bodies after they finish killing the crew. That is supposed to be one of the worst ways to die during that time.

Milen Mladenov

I would watch a whole spin off about Rackham and Anne Bonny if there was one. Their duo is probably my favorite part of this show

James

Teach's final act of not dying with that many goes around saved Rackham's life, and probably the rest of them. If he'd have been dead one go round sooner Rackham woulda been next. :S

I was really surprised you guys didn't know about keelhauling. But I guess now you found out. When I saw this first, I remember feeling pretty disappointed. I felt that Blackbeard as a character was almost underutilized in the show, as mainly a supporting character with a relatively short arc.

Preacher

I have heard of keelhauling but Jesus christ it is brutal as hell to watch it. I've never considered what it would be like.

Angelina Sargent

RIP Teach (and sadly, RIP Ray Stevenson). It gets easier to watch those keelhauling scenes now but the barbarism remains the same. Rogers did say that he left things out of his book right, namely his penchant for this kind of torture. I find it interesting that both Max and John were saved by people who love them (Eleanor and Madi). What a lucky pair.

SK Ellis

I am Uhtred, son of Uhtred, and I am waiting for Rob & Trin to react to my actions...
