FIRST TIME WATCHING Good Will Hunting (1997) REACTION

Comments

This is my favorite non-LOTR movie. Looking forward to watching it with yโ€™all

Nathan Hill

I'm so glad you guys watched this. It's a timeless masterpiece, quite frankly. The writing, acting and directing are perfect. It's directed by the brilliant Gus Van Zant, he's a notable director and has many great films, including the classic Drugstore Cowboy. It has amazing supporting actors such as Casey Affleck, Ben's little brother, a wonderful actor (In my opinion, much better than Ben) He was just getting started back then but through the years he's blossomed into a fantastic actor with many great roles. I believe he even won an Oscar for Manchester by the Sea. Anyway, so glad you guys loved this film ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’™

And Good Will Hunting 3 which was the working title for Dogma.

Apotheosis

Yep love to watch Rob cry and listen to trin cry to

Kim Magee

Now they need to watch Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season

Andrew

Rounders is basically "Will Hunting plays poker." Really good film with Edward Norton, highly recommend it

I heard Robin Williams took a huge pay cut to be in this film he liked the script so much. They wanted Robin but knew they couldn't afford him. I'm so glad he did, I couldn't imagine this film without Robin Willians :-)

Dorinda Schaper

Love this movie so much!! I can't wait to watch your reactions!

The Indian man the professor was talking about, Ramanujan, there's a 2015 movie about him called The Man Who Knew Infinity with Dev Patel and Jeremy Irons. If you liked this I'd recommend that.

One of the things I love about this movie is that there aren't any villains. Yes, Gerry is overbearing and single-minded in pushing Will, and he's arrogant and a bit of a prick, but at the end of the day he and Sean both just want good things for Will. They just have very different approaches about how to try to bring out his greatness. Also: I appreciate you picked up on Sean calling him "son" at the end. At the start, it's all "chief" and "sport." As they become closer, it becomes "son." Also: notice the physical positioning of Sean and Will in their sessions at the start (where they're seated opposite one another) versus the end (when they're sitting side by side in the office). Just subtle things showing how their relationship has changed.

I keep trying to suggest Awakenings, but it obviously will never win a poll. But a brilliant film, with one of his best performances.

MaggieS61

Just seeing Robin Williams on screen makes me cry every time, probably the actor with the most amount of screen time throughout my childhood. Miss him big time.

PhoenixReturns

from Boston to the California border is about 3,100 miles (4,998km) so yeah quite the distance lmao

And What dreams may come, Patch Adams ๐Ÿซ‚๐Ÿ’œ

I'm not sure I'm here to watch Rob and Trin be destroyed, but I suppose that's what we're doing. Just know that we're ugly crying with you.

Eric Gauthier

This is the role that won Robin Williams his Oscar and while he'll be remembered most for his comedic genius, his performances in more dramatic films are definitely just as good. I'd recommend Good Morning Vietnam and Dead Poets Society if you haven't seen them.

Boston is East, and California is West of the country. So, yah, it's a great distance. I love the fact that the therapy sessions healed both the patient, and the therapist. This is a great movie, but when it comes to Matt Damon's greatest performance, I still have to go with The Talented Mr. Ripley.

๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ to my prom I took my father as my date and the year before he passed away, he was my date for the third year at my work Christmas party at a Convention center with like 6 live music bands. It was so amazing for him. So I would too take if I could my mom or dad to the Oscars. ๐Ÿซ‚๐Ÿ’œ

Matt was 27 and Ben was 25 when this movie came out. They won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and both took their mothers as dates to the Oscarโ€™s. This also garnered the only Oscar win for Robin Williams, after being nominated three times previously. โค๏ธ
