I've seen clips of this movie (like a lot of ppl) but I've never seen the movie, in full. It was better than I thought it would be. Pretty crazy. I'm glad you're doing the movie series you mentioned. Another crazy one, but different.

Just imagine how powerful the Galactic Empire would have instituted Fight Club in the Imperial Stormtrooper Corp. On a more serious note, as a Registered Nurse, severe insomnia can cause a psychotic break if caused by extreme stress...not to the extent of this movie, but it can be pretty nasty! I saw this as a Student Nurse doing rotations at a State Mental Hospital.

I was so happy this made the cut during the poll. I love this movie! The twist was not even the best part. Besides the acting, cinematography, and film editing, the storytelling is also great with its duality. This was masterfully adapted from the book and even improved in some parts. In the beginning, the movie highlighted the social themes of simplicity vs. consumerism, masculinity and our diminishing role in today's society, and the constant battle between individualism and social conformity. Also, is pain absolutely necessary to achieve some kind of awakening? There are a lot of truths to Tyler's (Jack's alter ego) point of view, which is why the audience was instantly attracted to him and sorta wanted to be like him. We'd rather listen to Tyler talk about soap-making than Jack about life insurance. He delivered monologues that were very impressive and memorable, so it seemed like he got everything figured out enough to attract some sort of cult following (something that still happens today, to be honest). But, Project Mayhem represented a super anarchic fantasy. This movie shows us how seductive it is to go from one extreme way of thinking to another to jolt us out of a dull existence. But, the fact is, the movie criticizes or even mocks both ways of thinking in a balanced way. Destroying everything and living in run-down buildings is possibly pointless and lacks any profound thought or meaning anyway, which is no different from choosing to live in misery. Being trapped in a job we hate while squeezing very little amount of happiness from too many material possessions is not healthy and doesn't make us content. But rejecting everything about what the modern world offers or turning our backs on society is also not the answer. The story, in a way, is simple, just an exploration of “self” and humanity, but explored deeply and told in a bold, often uncomfortable, and thought-provoking way (a Fincher signature). One of the best movies from the 90s and will probably be revered or criticized for its delivery for a very long time, depending on how you look at it. Thank you so much for reacting to it!

Knowing Rob and Trin they’ll love it and most definitely have merch

Yes!

If you're talking about the one I think you're talking about, I hope they will stick with it too. Although, I've only known one reactor who refused to finish it. Some loved the series right away, and then there were the others who thought they were too old for it. But they liked it either way for the heart and lessons. But then after the first movie, they started getting hooked. before the end most reactors are usually wearing the merchandise. LOL!

All soap is made with Lye and a sort of fat/oil. Some people think that there is soap without Lye, because there is the Melt and Pour types, but all that is is soap with the Lye already in it.

If you end up enjoying the novel, then I'd also suggest diving into Palahniuk's catalogue further. Survivor (1999), Invisible Monsters (also 1999), and Choke (2001) are great intros into his style and prose, and his next five books after are brilliant as well.

I was very excited to hear your dipping your toes into a certain movie franchise. I hope you see it thru to the end. I believe you will enjoy the journey.

I am going to study the logic behind Rob's shirt choices for each reaction video. I believe there may be some hidden clues behind his selections.

This is definitely a movie that's worth, at least, a second viewing, especially when you're going into it forewarned, a lot of the clues seem completely obvious once you know.

Glad you guys watched this, I only watched it for the first time myself a few months ago. Going into it, I had always avoided this movie because I assumed it was just "dumb gratuitous violence that guys like" and like it was, but it was so much more complex and entertaining than I expected it to be. Very interesting stuff and I've added the original book to my reading list because the story intrigued me so much. Brad Pitt and Ed Norton are so charismatic and fun to watch here, it's very well acted.
