Inception (2010) - Movie Reaction!

Comments

I agree. We're all going to die one day. Whether we spend our life in this reality or another, what's the real difference? That may sound rather nihilistic, but I actually don't mean it that way lol. I will say though that I did always think it would be a cool twist that "everyone" thinks his wife tragically killed herself because she falsely thought that she was still in a dream. But in actuality she was right. And he's actually still unknowingly trapped in a dream. I haven't seen the movie in a while. So my memory may be a bit off. But I was just scrolling and wanted to chime in on that one.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter whether the reality at the end is the "real" one or not. Once Cobb saw his kids faces, it was over. That's his new reality.

YEEES! I was waiting for this reaction for a while and it didn't disappoint! Nolan's films are a type of film at this point that go above and beyond what's often expected of film, and the themes often revolve around time. Inception and The Prestige are I think my favorites of Nolan's, but it's hard to pick. They're all mind-blowing. This is definitely one of those films you go back and rewatch multiple times to catch things you didn't catch at first. I still notice new things upon rewatch. Ha I've definitely gone back and forth so many times with whether or not Cobbs is dreaming at the end. Made me happy to see you two enjoying this wild ride of a film!!

This moving is absolutely amazing. As Trin said, I also felt that they used Edith Piaf song as a callback to Marion Cautillard playing her role in a very famous movie (she was amazing in it). Also the lyrics fit perfectly with her story in this movie as it said “No, I have absolutely no regrets” - as Mal has no regret killing herself to stay in the dream. It’s so clever. As for Cobbs, I definitely think he is in the real world. Nolan chose to give the kids the same clothes to distract us but you can see on the plane that he look right away at his fingers to make sure he wasn’t wearing his wedding ring (his real totem). I guess the fact that Mal’s totem doesn’t stop means something different. I might need to watch the movie for the 5th time to figure it out (or read the other comments 😂).

oh you should watch the new show Maestro en Blue on Netflix then! everyone i've talked to who has seen it loved it. greek series with one season so far. bring it to the channel and i'd watch along too lol

Vonnie Stewart

Some of Nolan's best work (written by, produced by and directed by): - Dunkirk (2017) - one of the best WW2 movies. Very, very different from your typical war movie. - The Batman trilogy - three of the few superhero movies actually worth watching. Peak Batman, Christian Bale and Nolan at their best. - Interestellar (2014) - as you already know, one of the absolute best sci-fi movies ever - The Prestige (2006) - very unique, Bale again doing what he does. - Worthy mentions: Memento, Tenet Upcoming movies: Oppenheimer (which already looks amazing), and a Memento remake. He also usually couples with Hans Zimmer for the soundtrack, which is why Nolan's movies always have that epic soundstage.

You're probably gonna need a couple more re-watches for this one 😅

~Trin, I have a soft spot for greek movies, they make a lot of great dramas and they are not shy on showing emotions and gritty stuff.

Good movie, but it was confusing at times. I watched it twice. I don't quite know what everything was meant, but I have been on-call all week so my mind is not all there.

Anthony Ancona

If you liked this you need to check out TENET! Also a Christopher Nolan film and COMPLETELY MIND BLOWING

James Hickmott

Really a great movie! Reminds me of some of my own dreams and sometimes the fear that you can not wake up in a bad dream! And for me, Mal is scarier than some monsters in a horror movie.... I hope "The Prestige" will be chosen someday after all, I'm sure you'll love this film by Nolan too!

Yeah. I personally believe it's reality, but also believe this as well. Cobb sees his kids finally, let's go of Mal, and accepts this reality whether the top falls or not.

Marty McGee

I’m curious to know what is Trins favorite foreign language film?

Steven Schmaling

Cobbs totem was his wedding ring. When he's wearing it, he is dreaming. When it's missing he is in the real world.

shenzi22

I dont think Nolan has confrimed this, but after reading many theories I think its pretty much confirmed. Cobbs totem isnt the spinning thing, it belonged to Mal. He tells us that in his dreams they are still together. And while rewatching the movie you can see that when they are dreaming he is wearing his wedding ring, and while thy are awake he isnt. When they wake up on the plane he isnt wearing his ring, so yeah its most likely not a dream at the end :D

Kevin Mc Vey

I believe Cobb was still dreaming. He was away from his kids for YEARS and they didn’t get any bigger and still wore the same clothes. On the phone they even sounded older than those little kids we saw. Also, the top was Mal’s totem, what was Cobb’s. I heard that it was likely his wedding ring. That doesn’t really help though.

One of my favorite films & favorite soundtracks.

I would be an INCREDIBLE dream architect if maze building is one of initial skills. All my life I've created intricate and elaborate mazes, lightning fast in real time, that have one guaranteed way through that I don't even know the proper path for until I try it. I remember being allowed to take home a half finished roll of art paper in elementary school. It was about 25ft left on the roll, by about 3 ft wide... and within the week I had filled that entire roll with one long maze, with paths about a cm wide. I've had friends ask how I design a detailed hard maze without even knowing, myself, how to solve it.... I just can. I can't explain it. The mazes are creating themselves. I just write them down on paper.

Keith Duperreault

I’ve always interpreted the ending as Cobb coming back to reality. Cause he deserves a happy ending and it seems like his little thing 😜 is about to fall right at the very end there. Yet, I also keep thinking we just see them back on the plane after old Saito reaches for the gun in the limbo. We don’t see how they get there. I’ve always assumed he picks up the gun and shoots Cobb and himself. But like Cobb explains to Ariadne, people always wind up in the middle of the dream; they never know how they get there. Kinda like how they end up on the plane. Hmm.. We don’t actually see it. So it may not be reality after all?.. Or I’m just losing my mind thinking about details. 😂😂 Okay, NOPE, still a happy ending in my book. His little thing is about to fall and he gets to see his kids. That’s the ending I want, yes. ❤️ You see how Nolan makes one debate about the ending for hours and hours after watching this movie. He’s the best! 👏🏽

bihtress23

The director confirmed that it was reality in the end I think

Raphael Lyons

I think, in my opinion, the ending reflects on Cobb's deliberate disregard for whether or not he's still in a dream. The whole movie we're presented with multiple instances of him relying on his totem to determine/confirm if he's dreaming or not. The ending shows he has chosen to accept the reality he's currently in as the definitive one, regardless of whether his totem topples or not.

Great reaction Rob and Trin! A great little detail in the film (among many) is how the end credits end with the music kick, almost like saying "wake up". Beautiful detail. Also they did indeed build a rotating set for the hallway fight.

Andy Walker

Excellent movie. The part where Arthur fights in the hotel corridor was recorded in a corridor built so that it could rotate completely, you can watch the making of which is great. And answering the question if in the end it was all a dream or was it reality, Nolan has already answered that.

I wish you guys get to more Nolan in the future. Inception is good, but only 5th best Nolan film on my list. Although it does get much hype and I usually see it a lot higher amongst others. On the recent polls, Prestiege got obliterated ;))

Chris B

This is probably my favorite movie of all time. Idk what is is about it that gets me so invested. But the concept alone is interesting, let alone Nolan’s execution. I’m so glad you guys gave this a reaction!

Pat McConnell

One of my favorite movies of all time..And definitely one of Nolan's best..

Superpotroast

Probably the film I most looking forward to seeing you guys react to 😁

Andy Walker

Time to trip balls 😂
