The Green Mile (1999) - Movie Reaction!

Comments

I'm kinda binging your movie reactions at the moment and haven't to the mummy reactions yet, but I imagine you guys liked those because it's action with humor in it. Funny you mentioned The Rock. He played the Scorpion King in the mummy returns and got his own movie with that character (haven't heard much talk about it, but I love it). And that was exactly the movie I thought about recommending, when you said his name. It's also starring Michael Clarke Duncan as a totally different character than here. I don't know which side of him I love more, but I definitely love him and The Rock on screen together.

Jess M

can you make a streamable version for this one too?

Ninaofthe90s

can never go wrong with tom

DJ KO

The amazing late Michael Clarke Duncan was very rightly Oscar Nominated for his role in the movie!

Chloë

The man playing John Koffey plays in the movies Armageddon and The Island

Stand By Me is another Incredible story by Stephen King put to film that doesn’t have any horror elements.

In the deep South before there was central air conditioning, it was very common to have a “sleeping porch“. It was cooler to sleep outside with a slight breeze than inside the house. When I was a kid, my cousins used to argue about who got to sleep on the porch at my grandparents’ house. The three youngest (including me) were never allowed and so jealous of the big kids! However, I think it was more common in small towns and rural area than in cities.

Next watch Stallone's just released series, great start Mafia guy 25 years in prison gets out and like cobra kai's Johnny clueless about today's world, quite funny, called Tulsa king, so far only got 1 episode

We just finished a stephen King series Mr Mercedes, highly recomend it, definitely not around kids, but gets you hooked from the first 10 mins and keeps getting better

I love this film, had to wait till I could really have free time to watch it again, break your heart, and makes you really think about the death penalty too.

Kim Magee

Yay I was one of the ones who voted for you guys watching the film. A classic for a reason! Great reaction! I was balling like crazy multiple times through this film. Rewatching with you reminded me just how insanely intense yet powerful this film is. FOLLOW UP FILM RECOMMENDATION: I almost feel like a necessary follow up to this film is watching the film Just Mercy (and reading/ listening to the book by Bryan Stevenson), which is the true story of Bryan Stevenson, a lawyer representing people on death row. I do feel it's a necessary viewing post watching The Green Mile bc while The Green Mile is a powerful and amazing classic, it does romanticize the true stories that deserve to be heard without being romanticized. The truth about what happens on death row is a lot more brutal, sadly....and the lethal injection isn't any less barbaric...it's severely painful, but the med paralyzes people so they are unable to scream, cry, shout and call for help. Hearing the testimonies that Bryan Stevenson shares from death row I think are so important to put into context the history and reality of death row. Just Mercy is a book by Bryan Stevenson. And a feature film was made of the same name. There's also an HBO documentary based on Bryan's book called True Justice: Bryan Stevenson's Fight for Equality. And then I would def. recommend the videos & educational materials Bryan Stevenson's Equal Justice Initiative puts out daily.

Rob - remember, you reacted to Armageddon. Michael Clarke Duncan was "Bear" - one of the guys in the squad.

Chris B

Now you have to see the Shawshank Redemption another Frank Darabont and Stephen King movie like The Green Mile and The Mist.

Melissa Williams

Huh, I never once recognized him as Horace. Glad I at least recognized Dale from TWD.

Margaret

Hey, did you notice that the actor who played Percy is the actor who played Horace in Lost. (The head of the Dharma Initiative in the 1970s.) Crazy, huh?

Tom Occhipinti

Aw guys, this is one of those movies that is so so hard to watch, but also one that you just HAVE to see at least once. Thank you for reacting to this masterpiece - so well written, directed and acted. RIP Michael Clarke Duncan, who was just perfect as John Coffey. Wonderful film.

Laura Dawson

This is one of the greats of all time for sure up there with Stand By Me & Shawshank Redemption both also by Stephen King! Another Tom Hanks film that’s absolutely stellar though is Saving Private Ryan!

Jack's World

Michael Clark Duncan was 6'5" and he has since passed away. He was a great actor. Until reactions became a thing, it was the greatest movie I could never watch again. But, it's too tempting to watch other's reactions to it, this is the first time I've watched the entire thing again though rather than just YT cuts.

Carrie Petty

This one is hard, haven't watched it in years... Here we go 🥲

roncelune

One of the few movies that makes me cry
