I know it is super late, but I just have to say that I totally agree with you Wendy. They were being to hard on Max when she was just trying to say that it should be up to what El wants to do.

The title of this episode is really clever. E Pluribus Unum is a long-standing motto of ours in the US... meaning, 'out of many, one'. And out of those many flayed... made one giant scary monster-blob.

I don't think Max is being overbearing at all. El needs friendships outside of Mike. Whereas Mike doesn't seem to want to share El. But I get how first love seems all-consuming. Max is saying that El can make her own decisions... and Mike is saying that he's worried, so it's a no. I don't see how Max is wrong for advocating for El's own agency. Everyone knew it was likely a trap to go inside Billy's mind...they all said so, El said so. But they also believed it needed to be done. It was going to come to a head eventually anyway. It's like with Hopper and Jonathan... and Steve, too... they can worry and want to protect... but no one is going to tell Joyce or Nancy what they can or can't do. Heck, Steve never tried to stop Robin, or the kids, from infiltrating a secret Russian lair. I'm sure Mike will learn... love 'em, worry, but let the ladies do their thing.
