Throgg's closest companion, Jack, raised his eyebrows in admiration as he watched in marvel as Throgg repeatedly hit the bullseye on the homemade target in Jack's backyard with a Glock 22. The loud bangs echoed through the air, causing Jack's dog, busy gnawing on a bone, to retreat quickly.
"Damn, Throgg!" Jack exclaimed, setting down the patch he was using to clean his brand-new Colt, a gift for his birthday. "If I had known you were such a talented shooter, I never would have invited you. What do you think that will do to my already fragile ego?"
Jack turned to face his friend, a sardonic grin spreading across his face. He held up the Glock 22 in his hand, aiming it directly at his friend's head. "What do you think this bullet will do to your fragile skull?"
Jack flashed a sly grin in response, revealing his crooked front teeth that he never bothered to straighten with braces despite his father's ample wealth. "You may be a crack shot, Throgg, but--"
Throgg let out a startled cry and stumbled backward as a bullet narrowly missed his head, grazing his left ear. "You son of a!"
In the blink of an eye, Jack had jumped up and pointed his gun at Throgg, pulling the trigger with a resounding bang. "... Who's the fastest draw, huh?" Jack boasted with a wide grin on his face.
Throgg scoffed. "You miss, and you die."
"I did that on purpose, lamebrain!" Jack retorted as he sat down and grabbed some gun oil to lubricate his weapon. "I could have easily hit that ugly nose of yours those girls at Jackie's Place always tease you about."
"Fuck your ugly smug grin, and fuck those girls at Jackie's Place." Throgg cursed and turned back to the target, carefully aiming once more.
Jack grabbed a cloth and began to polish his gun, the oil leaving streaks on its surface. "You'd love that, wouldn't you? To fuck them."
With a steady hand, Throgg pulled the trigger and expertly shot multiple holes through the target's head.
"I have, you know." Jack chimed in. "With that redhead with the nice rack, last Saturday night on the backseat of my Dad's Chevy. She told me my gift to her was the best she'd ever had."
Throgg lowered his weapon and turned to give him a skeptical look. "We were at the movie theater last Saturday evening."
"That was at 8 pm!" Breezed Jack. "This happened at 11 pm, and you weren't there."
Throgg looked with disgust. "Luckily, I wasn't. Or I would be forced to listen to you moaning Cindy's name. Alone! While busting a nut in that unwashed bed of yours covered with dried sperm stains."
"I banged the girl, I swear! Right on top of my mom's washing machine!"
"Literally ten seconds ago, you said you drilled her on the backseat of your Dad's car."
"Ask, Cliff!" Jack pointed at his pooch, an elderly Rottweiler, busy licking at an old tire. The dog perked up and looked longingly at Jack, hoping to be granted some food. "He was there!"
Throgg shook his head in disbelief and continued to fire his remaining bullets at the target. "You have more bullets and a new target?" He inquired as his gun began to click, signaling it was out of ammunition.
Jack tossed Throgg a new magazine. Jack gave his friend a curious look as he saw him loading his gun. "Is there a specific reason for your sudden interest in guns?"
Throgg shrugged nonchalantly. "Guns are just cool. You find them cool. Is there a need to explain ourselves on this topic?"
"And what with that, big muscle talk and guns are for woozies and such?"
Throgg began shooting a few rounds at the already shredded target.
"It's your sister, isn't it? You want to kill her."
Throgg stopped shooting and lowered his gun with a sigh.
"Are those stories true?" Jack couldn't help but ask. "I mean, I've heard a lot of crazy stories in my lifetime. Coming from an eccentric family has made me kind of immune to being easily amazed. But this… sheesh, shrinking a cruise ship and altering a movie to her liking? Has she done anything like that to you?"
"I don't want to talk about it." Throgg settled the gun down on the table with a loud clatter. He pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and leaned against the fence, staring at the horizon as he let out a stream of smoke.
"I heard some even believe that Dina is the carnal incarnation of God. If that's true, poor you and your pitiful gun are up against the Almighty herself." Jack said with a sense of wonder in his voice.
"I never said that I wanted to kill her!" Throgg snapped, his voice spatting frustration.
"But you do believe that she is God? Or, at least, some kind of deity, right? Jesus, man. Your own sister..."
Throgg gave a long exhale, puffing out a lung full of smoke. "I don't know what to believe anymore. It's just wicked, that's all, wicked."
"I had a crush on her, you know? Last year."
"You have a crush on a different girl every week!" Throgg said.
"But come on, even you have to admit that your sister is kind of attractive - very much so even."
Unwanted memories flooded Throgg's mind of the morning he couldn't resist touching himself to thoughts of his sister. It was also the same day he threw a tomato at her head, and she inexplicably gained powers.
He couldn't help but wonder if his sister's unlimited abilities were karma's way of punishing him for years of teasing and pestering her. She seemed to take great pleasure in using those powers to get back at him.
Throgg approached his friend and gave him a grateful handshake. "Thanks," he said, referring to the gun – he put in his bag – and the opportunity to practice with it.
Jack gave a curt nod before a grin spread across his face as he realized the change in their heights. Usually, Throgg was significantly taller and towered over Jack by at least two inches. But now, Jack could meet Throgg's gaze without tucking his head back. In fact, Throgg almost needed to do the opposite and crane his neck to look up at Jack.
"I could get used to this. Your sister did this, huh?" Jack grinned.
Throgg walked away and flashed a peace sign over his shoulder as he said, "See you tomorrow, man."
"Hopefully, not at the police station or your funeral." Jack joked as Throgg disappeared around the corner.
Throgg walked through the front door of his home with newfound confidence, a feeling he hadn't experienced in weeks. He scanned the living room and strolled confidently towards the kitchen when he noticed it was empty. "Is Dina around?" he asked his mother, who was engrossed in cooking.
Lidi peered behind her, a frown forming as she poured boiling water into the sink while cooking vegetables. "She's off. She was invited to some talk show, I think. She can be here any minute now."
"I'll be upstairs, just give me a heads up when she arrives. I have something for her."
Throgg was already on his way to the stairs when his mother called out, stopping him in his tracks.
Lidi approached her son with a look of worry etched onto her face. "You don't have to keep doing that, you know."
Throgg's eyebrows creased in confusion as he asked, "Do what, Mom?"
"Bootlicking your sister. You don't have to be afraid of her anymore. I made her enter into a pact and swear she will never use her abilities for selfish reasons. And I believe that includes bothering you."
"And you believe that she will keep her end of the promise?"
"She better be!" Lidi balled a fist. "Or I'm going to kick her out of the house and love her no more!"
"Mom," Throgg placed a gentle hand on his mother's shoulder. "Dina has the power to create an entire house with just her thoughts and compel you to love her,"
"But she promised me, Throgg. And I still believe in the sanctity of a promise, and I trust that Dina does too."
"You're living in a fantasy world, Mom."
Throgg closed the door and sat on his bed. He reached into his backpack and pulled out the Glock, which shimmered in the light from the ceiling. He also pulled out some boxes of ammunition from his bag Jack had gifted him.
He stood in front of his mirror, mimicking Clint Eastwood as he aimed the gun at his reflection. "Who's the badass now, huh?" he said with a typical voice. The feeling of power coursed through him, and it was satisfying.
Suddenly, a knock interrupted his moment of triumph. He immediately turned his head towards the door. Dina's voice could be heard on the other side. "Are you in there, Throgg? Can I come in? Mom said you had something to show me."
"Hold on!" Throgg hurriedly responded, quickly stashing his gun in a drawer of his desk. He made his way to the door and swung it open. Putting on his most docile expression, he welcomed his sister into his room. Dina's eyes lit up as she looked around. "So, where is it? What do you have for me?"
Throgg held up his hand. "Hold your horses. Let me get it first."
With a sneaky grin - Dina could not see - he walked up to his desk, opened a drawer, and fished out something. "Tada!" Throgg presented a small box nicely wrapped in decorative paper."
Dina's eyes widened in pleasant surprise as she looked at the gift Throgg was offering her. "For moi?"
Throgg nodded proudly. "Come on, open it."
"I certainly will, brother!" Without hesitation, Dina tore away the wrapping paper, revealing a translucent box inside. Her excitement grew as she saw the beautiful silver necklace adorned with sparkling crystals.
Dina exclaimed, "Oh, brother, this is so amazing! You've never given me anything like this before. Actually, you've never given me anything at all. It looks wonderful!" She held it up to the light to take a closer look.
Throgg grinned. "I've spent all my savings to get this just for you, my dear sister."
"For me? But why?"
Throgg shrugged. "Because I love you, of course. As a sister, I mean." He hurriedly added with a bashful smile.
Dina's face lit up with joy as she exclaimed, "This is the best gift ever!" He grinned, motioning for her to try it on. "Hold on, let me do the honors of putting it on for you while you admire yourself in the mirror."
"Sounds great! Here." Dina gleefully handed the necklace to her brother and turned around, holding her hair out of the way for him to clasp it around her neck.
"It's so beautiful!" Dina twirled around to admire how the necklace looked from different angles.
"What's going on?" Lidi barged into the room.
"Mom, look what Throgg gave me!"
"Oh my, Dina, that's–"
Lidi let out a sharp scream as an ear-splitting gunshot rang out. The entire side of the wall where Throgg stood was now drenched in blood and gore after a bullet pierced through Dina's skull.
Throgg's twisted grin appeared in Lidi's vision as her daughter's limp form fell to the floor with a loud thud.
"Is she dead?" Throgg kicked shamelessly against his sister's motionless body. "Is she dead?" When satisfied that his cruel task had been accomplished, he let out a mocking laughter that echoed through the house, nearly drowning out his mother's horrified scream.
