Rays of sunbathed Dina's cheeks, warming them pleasantly, as she moseyed her way over the boulevard to toss out playfully flirtatious smiles at the people passing by.
"Hello, mister!" Dina sang to an elderly man dressed in a smart business suit.
"Lovely day, isn't it?" She winked at a frazzled mother struggling to manage a bawling toddler.
Due to all the busy waving, swirling her face from side to side, Dina did not watch her step and stumbled against the chest of a thick, fat, gothic-looking guy wearing leather studded clothing while carrying a solid whiff around him smelling of sweat. He growled down upon her, his dark encircled eyes glinting beneath hooded lids, and gave her a hard push with a pair of meaty hands. "Watch it, blissed-out squirt!"
Dina groaned as her cute butt landed harshly on the pavement. She ignored the snigger of her microscopic brother still perched upon her shoulder. "Well, that wasn't very nice of you." She spat at the guy, picking herself up off the ground.
"No one in this world is." the fat goth growled over his shoulder as he shuffled off, flashing his middle finger at her for good measure.
"You should wear some colors!" Dina said.
"Not gonna happen, squirt!"
Dina squinted and stared at the goth guy's long black coat. With a concentrated thought, the fabric rapidly transformed into an eye-catching pink, drawing gasps of surprise from those walking nearby.
"So cool." Dina rubbed her hands in anticipation. Her smile waned when a cloud blocked out the sun's glare.
Dina flashed a finger at the sky like a dictator. "Who gave you permission to spoil my moment of sun?!"
With a single thought, Dina willed the cloud to swirl aside, allowing a fresh ray of sun to shoot down upon her. Its warmth transformed her grumpy gaze into a cheery smile.
She noticed some peeps staring at her from the corner of her eyes. She'd recognized some of them as her classmates. Dina flashed a smile at them, assuming that they wanted to show her their gratitude for canceling school today. Because that's precisely what Dina did. Having enough of school for the day, Dina willed the school's principal to announce that school was being canceled for the rest of the day due to a malfunction with the heating system, causing the building to reach scorching temperatures. Technically speaking, this was true because Dina willed the heating system to operate at full tilt.
However, gratitude was not what Dina saw on the faces of her classmates. After witnessing Dina miraculously changing the color of someone's coat and shooing away a cloud, their glare had a mixture of shock, awe, and terror written on it.
One whispered something to the other in a hushed tone, unaware that Dina could hear every word. "That chick is freaking me out. Come, let's get out of here."
Dina waved after their disappearing figures. "Happy to see you guys too!"
"Okay, what's next?" Dina took a pondering pose. Her eyes darted from left to right until she landed her glare settled on the local cinema. "Of course, the movies!" A bright smile lit up her face. "What better way to pass your free afternoon than watching some good old-fashioned swashbuckler."
Dina began crossing the street while whistling a joyful tune and willed every car to screech to a halt despite the red traffic light and sauntered up to the ticket booth.
A sullen-looking old lady was tapping on her phone when Dina's hand landed dramatically on the counter, making her flinch. "One ticket for Revenge Of The Monks 3, please! And make it a free one."
Without hesitating, while wearing a wooden expression, the old lady printed out a ticket and handed it to Dina without naming a price.
Dina grinned as she grasped the ticket out of the woman's hand. "Thank you!"
"Have a wonderful time, miss!" The old lady said. The woman turned around to pick up her phone but suddenly froze in her movement. She jerked her head, looking over her shoulder with a puzzled glare. "Miss?"
Dina turned around, flashing a gentle smile while uttering the word, "Yes?" in her softest voice.
"Did you pay for your ticket?" The old lady asked, confusion evident on her face.
"Yes, I did," Dina said without batting an eyelid.
"Oh," The old lady scratched her head. "Ah, yes! Stupid me," She slapped her forehead in realization. "Of course you did!" She pulled out her wallet and fished out a few banknotes, which she placed into the cash drawer. "we've agreed that I would pay for your ticket personally. Sorry, my bad."
Dina blew a kiss. "Hey, don't mention it, Ciska. "she said, while not surprising the old lady that she knew her name while they were total strangers to each other. "You're only human. Not everyone can be perfect like me."
Dina went to the restroom to empty her bladder and looked at herself in the mirror while washing her hands. Her thoughts ran wild with all the possibilities her newfound powers granted her. She pushed a wayward strand of brunette hair behind her ear and straightened her back to take a moment to enjoy the unshakeable air of confidence her eyes radiated before walking off. She chuckled to herself while exiting the restroom, thinking about all that lay ahead of her. She could do anything! And she had a strong suspicion that there was nothing out there able to stop her.
Dina sauntered her way towards the concessions stand, chin raised in triumph.
There, she leaned her head against her hand, pondering momentarily before deciding it was a good day for a big bucket of salty popcorn and a large Coke. Her gleeful face churned to a look of bummer when she noticed a line of at least ten people.
If there was one thing Dina could not stand, it was waiting in line! But then she remembered something else - she never had to wait in a line again thanks to her powers!
She saw a lanky nerd walking up to the counter as it was his turn to place an order. With a sardonic grin, Dina used her powers to plant the urge in the guy's head to buy her a Large Popcorn and a Coke she'd been eyeing.
"Ooh, thank you, sir! How sweet of you!" Dina took over the popcorn and coke the nerd bought for her. He scratched his head with a frown, looking like he no longer knew where he was. Luckily for him, he received a reminder from his even nerdier-looking girlfriend, who scolded him for buying food and drink for a total stranger while forgetting to buy the things she'd ordered him to do.
Dina gave them a gentle smile while blowing a kiss to the guy – to vex the nerdy girl even more. "Have a nice day, you two!" As Dina walked away from the two arguing teens, she couldn't help but smirk to herself.
After being ushered by one of the cinema's attendants to the right hall, Dina plunged into a seat that suited her – not the one assigned to her when buying the ticket. She grasped a handful of popcorn from the bucket and stuffed it in her mouth in a not-so-lady-like manner while munching shamelessly.
The movie began.
Its premise was about a monastery deeply hidden near the peak of a misty mountain, where a group of monks who happened to possess mystical powers lived. For centuries, these monks worried about nothing else than their own business and refrained from mingling with society. In this movie, however, they broke this sacred oath and started to intervene when the government began shamelessly drilling for oil at a nearby lake that was seen as sacred by the Monks. The movie's climax erupted in a massive clash between the altruistic monks and a heavily armed group of mercenaries financed by the government.
All Monks perished, and their monastery torched, all to the chagrin of Dina – who rather saw the Monks prevailing. So the new Dina did what the new Dina always did when something did not go her way. She altered it to her liking, thus changing the entire script of the movie and its ending.
"There, that's more like it, right?" Dina glanced behind her to the other people attending while the movie's final scene depicted a young monk with smears of blood on his face smiling as he saw the defeated mercenaries dripping off.
The other patrons of the movie theater gaped at her in puzzlement, some of them in fear as they witnessed an entire movie being rewound and molded in real-time, all due to the interference of a mere teen girl. What they witnessed defied all logic, making them doubt their own eyes. Yet, it did happen.
Dina exited the cinema to hit the streets and stretched out the stiff muscles in her body with a groan that ignited disapproving looks from passing pedestrians. She glanced about and pondered what to do next with her free afternoon. In the distance, she saw a massive cruise ship bobbing its way to dock at a terminal – its white deck standing out against the deep blue sea.
Dina rubbed her hands in anticipation. "You know, brother." Her eyes sparkled with excitement as she grinned at the minuscule speck still standing on her shoulder. "I've always wanted a ship in a bottle of my own. I could never wrap my mind around how it was possible to fit something so large through such a narrow opening. I still fail to understand. But it doesn't matter though. I don't need to understand. As long as I'm able to do it."
Dina held her hand up, and out of nothing, an empty bottle materialized upon it. Her eyes zeroed in on the massive cruise ship. "I want you," Dina nodded in the cruise ship's direction. "here." She nodded at the glass bottle resting in her hand. And voila, The Majesty Mark 3, which stretched longer than three football fields and carrying more than five thousand people, disappeared from the sea to reappear in a glass bottle not taller than thirty centimeters nestled in Dina's petite hand.
Passengers lounging on deck near the pool removed their shades, surprised that the sun's warmth was not felt anymore. Instead, they were confronted with the face of a pretty teen girl – bigger than the ship they were bobbing upon – grinning down at them.
Dina took a gander at the harbor, just as a check, to see if the ship was not there anymore. It wasn't. The ship was resting in her hand now, entrapped in a bottle like a toy.
"I did it! I totally did it! Of course, I did it. I can do anything! Ha!"
With that, Dina walked off to see what more mischievous she could do.
