Eliza glanced about to take stock of the situation and was relieved to see that the remaining chopper force tailed off─choosing to hover at a safe distance from her.
She realized they were intimated by her. It was an odd experience for Eliza to know that others were afraid of her. Normally, she was the one who had to be wary of certain people.
Despite her mild-mannered nature, Eliza did not feel any remorse for the Lilliputians she killed─either accidentally or intentionally─during the fray.
She did not fully understand why her consciousness refused to function properly during such horrendous events whereby she was forced to kill, even though it were only Lilliputians. Perhaps it was because her act of aggression was purely motivated out of self-defense, or maybe it had something to do with the betrayal and rape sessions of her own people. She did not know. She flicked the thought aside. All that mattered now was survival. And Eliza's odds were significantly increased when she surprised everyone─including herself─with a dazzling display of dexterity with the whip.
A loud chuckle thundered down from the skies. Eliza turned her head and stared with deep aversion at the shameless display exhibiting itself beyond the city's soaring skyline. It was of course, the sight of Sophie─the youth Goddess─excelling once more in a display of blatant behavior whereby she sat slouched in her lazy chair, knees pulled up, while reading some girlish magazine as she unblushingly flaunted the color of her exposed undie. The girl clearly did not mind that the scarce piece of cloth clasped around her hips─supposedly a mini-skirt─was jolting along her thighs after every burst of laughter until it stretched tight between her lusty asscheeks and the seat-part leather of the chair.
It vexed Eliza to see that her battle for survival seemed dull in Sophie's eyes now there was a lull between the fights.
I'll show you. Elize clenched her fist.
This behavior only charged her driving force to put up an excellent performance, even if just to achieve something as trivial as to pull the girl's attention away from that shallow magazine she was all caught up in. That was the best thing a mere human could hope to achieve when dealing with a Brobdingnagian, to catch their attention or to be a nuisance to them in some sort of way.
This whole charade was nothing more than a way to pass the time for Sophie─a brazenly display of entertainment for a female who was little more than just a girl.
Eliza shivered as she watched Sophie's free hand fiddling mindlessly at another lilliputian city stationed next to her on a side table. While reading and sniggering, the girl was simply wreaking havoc and destruction on a massive scale for countless lilliputians teeming in panic beneath Sophie's finger of doom jutting down from the skies─laying waste to several city blocks.
There was nothing these Lilli's could do to stop her or to escape this horrible fate. They were utterly delivered to her whims.
After this bleak contemplation, Eliza shifted her attention back to the battlefield. Squinting her eyes, she could see the army assembling in the far distance. The remaining choppers were obviously waiting for the cavalry to arrive as they hovered above a section of the city near a dried-up river trench, packed with cranes and docks.
Eliza's mind was pondering about the options as she saw dozens of tanks rolling in over the bridge. She could not afford to grant them the luxury of time. It would only allow them to plan a well-coordinated attack on her. She had to use her momentum. She had given their air force a severe blow, had shown them that she was far more intimidating than you would imagine from a simple human-girl with a pretty face donned in a scantily-clad garment. Facing them head-on would be foolish, though. That tank squad would eat her alive. She had to come up with something witty, something that would catch them off guard.
Scrutinizing the tank squad rolling their way toward her, she noticed that they first had to cross a broad lane─adjacent by two stately towers on both sides─before they were able to enter downtown—the area where Eliza was keeping a low profile. One of them was heavily battered by the earlier spray of fire from the choppers. The tower was already leaning slightly to the side. One good nudge would probably let it collide against its twin brother, making them both collapse and subsequently blocking the path for the ground troops.
If there was only a way to topple it. Eliza pondered. She doubted if she was able to push it herself. However, even if she could, she would be dangerously exposed.
Looking around, Eliza smiled broadly when she saw a jumbo petrol tanker lying on its side in the streets. She needed two hands to pick it up. Holding it in front of her eyes, she wobbled it and felt a fair amount of liquid sloshing from side to side.
Good. That's good…
Eliza hoped that by throwing it against the tower's feet with the right angle, the truck would explode on impact, making it topple over.
I've got only one shot. One-shot…
She crouched down, and dove amidst the bush of wrecked apartment buildings─to disappear from the armies' sight─and slunk her way to get in closer range. Sneaking through claustrophobic streets and alleys─with the petrol tanker clenched under her arm─Eliza was relieved to see that Sophie was still heavily immersed in her magazine. That's good… that way, her eyes won't be able to reveal her location.
After zig-zagging through corner after corner, Eliza crouched down, catching her breath while peeking around a wasted wall of a former warehouse, which was utterly totaled after it had to endure several impacts of explosive missiles. Several fires were still crackling here and there, with charred lilliputian bodies littered here and there.
She had a good visual on the main road leading deeper within the city's center. The two soaring towers were still a reasonable distance away. Eliza uttered some words of frustration.
She would never be able to throw the petrol truck from this position, not without exposing herself. It was just too far away.
She saw the barrel of the first tank already emerging from around the corner in the distance, maneuvering its way toward the two towers─with many of its armored friends in tow. She had to make a decision. It was now or never.
Just when Eliza made up her mind and was about to expose herself in a dangerous attempt to launch the petrol truck against the tower, a whopping sound behind her caught her attention.
"Crazy snitching bitch!" Eliza called out when she saw an attack helicopter hovering airborne a couple of blocks away, with his sights aimed at her. Beyond it all─filling the entire sky─was Sophie's gleeful face looking down upon them all with curiosity.
"Oopsie!" Sophie clasped her hand against her mouth.
Eliza duck down─holding the petrol truck tight under her arm─as a missile grazed over her head and exploded dangerously close behind her as it impacted the main road, spraying pieces of concrete every which way.
Two other choppers appeared above her, clearly aiding their comrade, who was heading its way toward her.
"I love it! It's great! Where is my popcorn?" Sophie's voice thundered from the sky.
Insufferable brat!
Now that her cover was blown, Eliza did not have to ponder for long about her next move. She was already exposed and about to be taken under heavy fire from above. She perked up and dashed her way toward the soaring towers with the sizzling sound of incoming missiles right behind her.
Stumbling down, she screamed in pain as one of the missiles hit her in her left calf. It was not able to penetrate her skin, but it still hurt like hell. The petrol truck fell out of her hands, crashed down on the road and screeched over its surface until it came to a stop a few meters away.
Eliza got up, grabbed the truck, and lunged forward again, with a rain of explosions erupting all around her.
Several battle tanks were already in sight in the distance, rolling their way toward the gate formed by the two large towers. One of them, the one rolling upfront, aimed his barrel at her.
Eliza was not quite sure if she was close enough. Either way, it was now or never. She groaned hard when the petrol truck left her hand as it followed an arched trajectory until it hit the exact spot where Eliza was aiming for, right at the base of the building.
Nothing happened, though.
"Fuck!" Eliza clenched her fists.
It simply crashed against the building's façade, shattering several windows, but after that simply slumped down on the ground.
"Looks like your mission is going sideways, isn't it, Eliza?" Sophie's godlike countenance called down with a look of pity in her eyes. "Seems like you're royally screwed this time. Well, best of luck!" she said while stuffing another hand full of popcorn in her mouth.
