Azure crystals seem to have taken root throughout its fossilized structure, seemingly fortifying the natural bone where it has been damaged. Strange.”

The Best Defense... While wielding this shield, you may treat it as a Martial melee weapon and can make attacks with it using your Strength modifier. Attacks with the shield deal 3d4 Piercing damage.

If wielded in your off hand, you can treat this shield as if it has the Light property. 

Riposte - When a creature misses you with a melee attack roll, you can take a Reaction to make a melee attack roll with the shield against the creature. You may use this feature a number of times equal to your Proficiency modifier and regain all uses on a Long Rest. 

Call the Spirit - Housed inside the crystals embedded in this weapon is the spirit of the ancient beast whose bones were used in its creation. The Triceratops.

As an action you can literally call upon the great spirit’s power by loudly calling its name in battle to temporarily empower your weapon beyond its normal capabilities. You gain access to the empowered version of the weapon’s stat and changes listed below.

The Best Defense… (MORPHED) - Lightning crackles and arcs between the horns of the shield. Attacks with the shield deal an additional 1d8 Lightning damage. 

Riposte (MORPHED) - When using this feature, you add 1d8 Lightning damage to your melee attack.

Additionally, you may now use this feature against any Ranged attack that misses you, sending a bolt of lightning back at the attacker in a 100-foot line, dealing 3d8 damage to each creature in its path.
