Jess Darrow! Advice is back! 7 Steps to Stop ICE!

Hey friends,

Hope you’re all hanging in there. It’s so cold and everything is so bad! But it is once again time to talk about…. Podcast. lol.

This week on Gender Conceal, I chatted with Encanto’s Jess Darrow about working with Disney as an outspoken queer person. We also discussed Jess’s mission to make Captain Hook gay in 7th grade; their big discovery about comedians(??); their hot take on cishet relationships(???); and much more!!!! It’s a...

Megan Milks! Minneapolis! Media recs from y’all! (Also, Casa Susana!)

Hey friends,

Hope you’re all hanging in there. I am effectively snowed in—as in, I could technically make it down the block to the bodega, but not too much further than that—and have spent most of the last 24 hours texting and reading about what’s going on in Minneapolis. I suspect that many of you are in a similar position: either snowed in & glued to your phones or on the street yourselves, defending your neighbors from kidnapping and worse. More on that in a minute. In th...

Patron survey findings! Bi is back?? Geese and/or Goose!

Hey friends,

Hope you’ve all been hanging in there(!!!). Thank you again to everyone who filled out our 2025 patron survey—I’ve really enjoyed reading through your responses. I’m hoping to talk about this more in a future Gender Conceal, but in the meantime, here are a bunch of stray findings:

  • The majority of respondents have been listening to the podcast for 4+ years, which is wild to me. Thank you so much for sticking around!

Hey friends,

Hope you’re all hanging in there. We haven’t had a normal newsletter in a few weeks, so before we get going, I’d like to belatedly thank everyone who sent Sag season mail—a true bright spot in a deeply weird holiday season. Special shout-out to these fun handmade cards:

2025 patron survey! (Win a prize!)

Hey friends,

Hope you’re hanging in there. Now that we are ~77 hours away from 2026, I’m finally sending the 2025 patron survey! If you’ve never taken one of our annual patreon surveys before, here’s what you need to know:

  • It’s long but every question is optional

  • You can almost always write in your own answer under “other”

  • We use the bulk of this information to (try to) improve our podcast/patreon/spinoff offerings, but sometimes...

a chic way to inconvenience everyone

Hi friends,

Hope you're all hanging in there. Happy solstice! I typically do my holiday travel a week or so before the holidays because I'm an iconoclast and/or a child of divorce and/or don't want to deal with peak holiday flights. This is inconvenient for everyone — taking a week off right before everyone else takes two weeks off is not great business practice, and flying back into town right as all yr friends leave is not ideal — and yet I keep doing it.

All that to say! I...

Hey friends,

Hope you’re all hanging in there. We’ve got a fun Gender Conceal episode with Lee Lai(!) all ready for you rn, but I didn’t want it to get lost in the weekend slush pile, so I’m holding onto it for now and we’ll talk about it next week.

Hey everyone!

Greetings to our paid members, who received another email from me like 20 minutes ago, and to our handful of free members, who did not.

As soon as I sent our weekly newsletter, I received confirmation that our Portland event rebooking was ready to launch! And since I always try to give Patrons first dibs — and since this event will absolutely hit capacity — I wanted to let you know ASAP.

Early Portland tix! Other events selling out! Halloween pigeon!!!

Hey friends,

Hope you’re all hanging in there. My friend Jesse is currently visiting from London, and yesterday we dressed up as each other for Halloween, which was incredible for me because not a single person at any of the parties we went to had ever met Jesse before. The ultimate niche costume! I assured them that I was, in fact, nailing it, and who were they to argue?? (I gave Jesse my extra “I voted” sticke...

What am I talking about? Thanks so much for asking!
