I also feel the reason the one guy was able to resist the messaging so long was because with his phobia being blood, killing people would hardly alleviate his fear

Another throw back to the texas clock tower shooting..... It just feels weird when this scenario is being blamed on the evil evil video games.... If only people grasped how many people actually play video games if they really caused violence we would have a serious problem lol

Oh btw, the guy who was afraid of blood, he was in Blade Runner, that's where I know him from

So I found this episode completely boring, sorry. Just not interesting to me, kind of a slow ep.

"Fear is the oldest tool of power. If you're distracted by fear of those around you, it keeps you from seeing the actions of those above." Well, if that doesn't feel relevant right now...

I imagine that to be really affected, a prolonged exposition would be necessary. All so not everybody in the exposed area were equally affected, otherwise we would have had an even larger number of murder spree. As for Mulder phobia, I donโ€™t think we have seen that he has one, as far as we can tell. To me the message at the end had less to do with the plot and more with those particular writers being cute.

"Why's he got a swastika on his forehead?!" That's Charles Manson my dude! Hilarious you caught OJ's Bronco but not that ๐Ÿ˜‚ In a funny way, not making fun!

You touch on something very interesting regarding this episode. Why wasn't Mulder affected, and how should we interpret the message he sees on his cellphone? First I'd say that I disagree with Mulder's theory about the messages being relayed purposely by someone in order to see how they'd react. The most rational theory is that the substance simply makes them see the messages, and there's no one really sending them. It's one thing to send messages through a cellphone or computer screen, but a totally different thing to do it through a microwave, car dashboard, elevator display, etc. Secondly, as to Mulder being affected by the substance or not, there are, in my view, several ways to look at it. It could be that the substance simply does not affect everyone. Having a phobia certainly plays a role, but there might also be something else the individual needs to have, in order for the substance to trigger the hallucinations and murderous impulses in him/her. Maybe, Mulder simply didn't have that "something" that the other ones had. On the other hand, maybe his type of fears weren't the type which would lead to the same effects that others experienced. The effects might also vary in their intensity depending on the person. Nonetheless, we do actually see evidence of him being affected, obviously at the end, when he looks at his cellphone display. So, since Mulder "fears" that this is a conspiracy where someone is actually relaying messages through these devices... maybe he sees that which he fears... a message from "them", those who were conducting the experiment (as he thinks), saying that the experiment is finished. It could be interpreted that his hallucination tells him "they", the conspirators, just got away with whatever it is they were trying to accomplish. To be clear, I'm not saying there's no possibility that this was an experiment to see how humans would react to the LSDM. That could very well be true. I'm just disagreeing with the "messages sent on purpose" part, in regards to the electronic devices. I'm glad you enjoyed the episode. I enjoyed your reaction video / review as well. For what it's worth, this is one of my personal favorite standalone episodes, although of course it's not everyone's taste.
