2025-11-01 18:56:37 +0000 UTCErnst is a truly fascinating character, he's one of the rare few that is able to stick with their ideals to the extreme and also has the power and absolute confidence to back it up. He means well but also feels like he's insane enough to put all stops just to uphold his ideal, hence why he said "I'll destroy this world" if they don't come back because as he mentioned in the earlier episodes where he got introduced a shitty world that has to sacrifice children doesn't deserve to exist. And I do hope you pick up the light novels after the show, it's too good to pass up, and it's so worth it as well to read from the start with how different the format and direction is of the novel vs the anime.

Due to Japanese omitting the subject, the translation adds the "I will" But there's no "I" in the original Japanese. Personally I'd translate it more along the lines of "This world should be destroyed"

2025-10-30 23:56:01 +0000 UTCErnst is an unsettling character because he is not what you expect in this scenario especially after seeing San Magnolia's example, an honest politician who even more unexpectedly truly holds very extreme ideals. In his debut episode he says "A society that refuses to save children because there's no 'Benefit' is a society that benefits no one. And if humanity can't survive without killing children because they're 'Strange', then humanity doesn't deserve to survive." and he truly does believe that. That's why he says if they don't return he'll destroy the world because he truly believes that them dying in this mission will be proof that humanity no longer deserves to exist and he'd likely just sabotage humanities chances against the legion in retribution.
