It All Comes Together! | Monogatari Series: Off & Monster Episode 14 REACTION

There's a few things that were cut this episode. For one, the way they turned Kie back into a human was that they killed her with Heart Span and then revived her with Dream Span, removing her vampiric nature just like they had done with Araragi. That is the "progress that has been made" since Kizu that Araragi is referring to. Also concerning the phone straps, they were actually the main reason Araragi figured out it was Kie. Because the first mummy was the only one without a phone strap, so she was the "odd one out". In the end it turns out that he made a wrong assumption in that anyway, since Kiseki ALSO did not have a phone strap, but that's the detail that made him think about Kie and therefore further figure out the other details. Also in terms of the emotional climax, in my opinion they left out a VERY important bit of inner monologue from Araragi, to me it's basically the main climax of the arc, so I'll just paste the novel passage here: “By th’ way, Araragi-kun. Who’s this?” she asked. (...) “That girl—that demon.” She encountered a vampire, and was attacked by a vampire. She yearned to become a main character, and yearned to become a monster. She desired friends, hated friends, and hurt friends. After a depressing youth that made her sick of being human, after having obtained special powers, the high school girl that was finally crushed by a specialist, who couldn’t be a demon, couldn’t be a person… “She’s me. Someone exactly like me.” To me this comparison between Kie's and Araragi's circumstances and the parallels to basically the beginning of Araragi's story is what makes this arc so great (Of course even stuff like Suicide-Master's offer for Kie to kill her in order to become human again is reminiscent of Kiss-Shot doing the same in regards to Araragi in Kizu). A great way to start into this new era of not only his life but also, for us as the readers, a new chapter of the story.
