EARLY ACCESS WARHAMMER 40K BATTLE REPORT ULTRAMARINES versus FORCES OF THE HIVE MIND

It feels so good to be able to reward our patrons with early access to this battle report!

Produced in studio prior to the COVID-19 social distancing measures this game pits Play On's very own Tak Kawana and his Ultramarines versus an internationally renowned top player in Alex Macdougall, who is a contributor to the Art of War podcast and is playing the Forces of the Hive Mind, a mix of Tyranids and Genestealer Cult units.

We certainly faced some challenges editing this video amidst the coronavirus pandemic.   Knowing that so many people are isolated at home and not playing, we all wanted nothing more than to produce more content and hopefully spend more time "virtually" with this fantastic community.   There were periods when individuals on our team were ill, and there were times with our children who needed us took priority.  So, this feels like a massive accomplishment.

Nick, despite the challenges, and as always great job on the edit.  You even made Tak look semi-presentable...

I am always very nervous to play in front of camera and was especially nervous going up against Alex.  He has won or placed top three at pretty much every major event I've seen him at.
I finally got the chance to play Alex at a tournament during the 2019 season and it was an absolutely incredible game.  I learned so much from playing a man of his calibre and he made it enjoyable even though I was sweating the entire time.  I lost the game 29-28 and it was my only loss of the tournament.
At the end of the tournament consisting of 29 players, Alex went on to win the whole thing not losing a single game.  Play On's Stephen Wilhite lost at top table to Alex and thus placed 3rd at the tournament.  And, my only loss also to Alex allowed me to place 2nd.  Play On's Tycho Immega placed 4th.
One more fun little side story to that tournament is that Stephen Wilhite was at the time sitting at 1st in Canada for Space Marines.  There was a bit of a friendly rivalry happening and if I placed better than him at this tournament there was a chance I could overtake him.  However, Stephen placed high enough where the points spread kept him in the lead and I would need a few more tournaments to "change" our positions.
Enjoy the show, patrons!  And let us know what you think.  Thank you!
- Sincerely, Tak
