Left Hand Magic - Build 2 ($5 Patron Release)

*staggers in and falls over*

*mutters about bugs, so many bugs*

*gathers self*

*Ahem*

Okaaay! As you can probably guess from my overdramatic moment, there were a lot of bugs with Build 2. Mostly, annoyingly, they stemmed from the Gallery feature rather than the main game. Though there were a fair few in the main game too. While my brain is, thus, fried from spending way too many hours straight bug squishing, with stops only for power naps and caffeine, the game is finely done. I hope. I was making a few tweaks right up the last second that couldn't be tested without entirely redoing sections of my checklist. So, hopefully, those mirror tweaks (mostly sound related), didn't break anything.

As far as the build itself goes, I'm reasonably happy with it, despite the delays. There are a couple of animation stages with some jerky movement that weren't noticed until it was too late to fix them (which have now been added to a list I'm making of things to revisit and smooth out when we get farther along). I'm also just flat-out unhappy with some of the sound/music. It's proving much harder to find licensable adult sound (consistent voices doing a variety of sexy things) than I'd ever thought it would be. And I'm not 100% happy with the current library of music I have to pull from for background music. Going to have to do something about both issues in the future. But right now, it is what it is.

Aside from those quibbles, none of which are horrible, they just aren't up the high standard I've set for this project, the Build turned out quite well. Seven new animated scenes, the majority of which contain multi-stage animations. Plus a fair bit of additional character and world-building. The vast majority of the stills and animations are up to spec, so to speak, and I've ironed out a lot more framework bits. Including doing so serious overhaul work on a few systems that were a bit more patchwork than I was happy with before. Anyway, enough rambling! Links and release notes!

Quick Note - The Walkthrough for $10+ people will be available later today. Too exhausted to even consider doing it right at the moment. Going to collapse as soon as I post this and send out the High-Speed links for Royalty folks.

Release Notes:

There's actually quite a lot packed into this build. Two new non-animated 'date' type scenes, plus 7 animated scenes. Included are:

3 Dates/Working Days with Talia - This brings here in line with the other girls for weekday content.

14 new animations - Spread between 7 animated scenes.

The First Major Event - This includes a route option for each of the girls.

Unlockable Weekday Threesome - Trix/Revina/MC

Unlockable Weekday Threesome - Arianna/Talia/MC

Introduction of a new minor character (Veronica)

Gallery Updates to make most scenes repeatable

Bugfixes to the Gallery (it was a mess)

General Bugfixes

Overhaul of the Credits - They still suck. But they suck slightly less. They'll be overhauled again in a future build, at some point.

No, i mean during regular gameplay using the „back“ button down at the left of the speechbox, wich will revert the dialogue and choices, doesn‘t work with animations. Once an animation has startet playing you can‘t go back before it.

*blink* *blink* Um...is the gallery not working for you?

Novus

Really nice so far! Only issue i found was that you can't go back over animations.

Bababbak

Yeah. At some point I'll probably post the code to a few of the Renpy game forums and see if someone else can figure out what the heck is wrong with it. As is, I consider the current solution good enough 'for now'. Much like the relationship and credits panels needs and overhaul at some point. Thanks for pointing it out, though! It could easily have been something I just missed.

Novus

Eesh, that sounds sucky.

George Lever

It totally should! And originally it was supposed to. But for reasons I can't figure out no matter how long I work on the code, how much documentation I read, or how many places I look to ask why the bit of code I was using was doing weird shit...I couldn't get it to work. Something buried in the code for how Renpy's screen system works was causing glitches when I did it that way. It wouldn't erase the previous screen hotspots, so there were like 50/50 odds that, once you went back to the character select, the buttons would open something completely different than they were supposed to. Yet the screen itself was changed. I spent like ten hours on that at one point, before finally, in desperation, just going FINE YOU SHALL RETURN TO THE MAIN MENU. And that worked. So I saved my sanity by leaving it be...

Novus

The only major contribution I can give is that the back button on the gallery should step you back to the "pick a character" screen and not the main menu, but all told that's relatively minor.
