Chastity Quest RELEASE!

*Edit 3* Thanks to Troqu, a bug that I hope was causing most/all of the remaining blank/black screen issues has been found and fixed. There's a patch link that will take you from the Performace Fix version to the new Bugfix 3 Version, so you don't have to redownload the whole thing. Though the links will also soon be replaced with the Bugfix 3 version.

*Edit 2* New versions that will hopefully farther help the performance issues. Aslo managed to reduce the size by about 300mg. Links have been changed.

*Edit* The ever-helpful Dark Jade reported that trying to Work for Jillian caused the game to go to a blank-screen. This appears to have been an issue with the Engine itself, it not being able to handle the scene, rather than my code. However, I was able to (hopefully) create a work-around that should (hopefully) have fixed the issue by breaking the scene up into multiples. The links have been updated with a version containing that workaround. I also fixed the Backlog to actually work in the fixed version, since I finally got a reply about that from the people on the support forum and it turned out to be something stupidly simply I was missing.

Well, I sort of made it. Kinda. Not really. Arg. ANYWAY, the point is that I actually have a build to release! It was finished at like 11:30pm too! So, technically in January? Unfortunately, that was when the build was done and it's still uploading as I write this. I failed to anticipate that the file is like 3gb -_-. I'll be looking into why and trying to pair that down if possible. But it might be the result of all the videos in it. They're webm, so the compression is pretty good, but they're still 1080p, 30 fps videos...and there's over 40 minutes worth of them...

Anyway, a couple of things. First, I'm SUPER SORRY, but getting either Chastity Quest or the Story Reward out today was a one-or-the-other sort of thing. Since I'd promised to get SOMETHING out for Chastity Quest in January, I chose to prioritize that, even if I missed it by like, 15 minutes because of the upload time(Well, for Central Time at least). The Story Reward is pretty close to finished, I'm anticipating it being just a single day late, being up sometime tomorrow. Sorry Sorry Sorry :-(!

Second, this build of Chastity Quest is rougher than I'd like. Enough so that I'm actually kinda calling it Build 0.9. Rather than Build 1. It has a nice, impressive number of unique sex scenes, coming in at 38. Darn near my original 40 scene total estimate for the Hope's Rest starting area. Which, since it doesn't include roughly 8 scenes that were planned, turned out to be a low estimate. While I HAVE tested it enough to know that EVERY SINGLE ONE of those scenes should work and be accessible (if in one case, you have to use a temp cheat, but that's for a minor variation that isn't actually counted in the 38 figure). Aside from the missing scenes, this build is rough in two ways:

1) The playtesting was almost nonexistent. Meaning I haven't balanced out the game AT ALL. Stat changes and such are all my original rough estimates while I was writing/coding things, not a playtesting-refined balance. As such, feedback on if something was too easy or hard or whatever is REALLY USEFUL, please :-).

2) I was only able to to a single rough pass for bugs and typos. There are ALMOST CERTAINLY some odd bugs that will pop up, as well as various typos still in the writing. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF BOOBS, report bugs to me! You can report them here in the comments, here on Patreon via sending me a direct message, or even through my email address Novus.Peregrine@gmail.com. I can't stress enough how helpful it is if you report bugs, as this game is LARGE and has lots of finicky checks everywhere. Even if I had more testing time, there's no way I could find all the problems...

With all of that out of the way, there's one final thing. You might want to read the 'known issues' in the Release Notes, even if you don't read the rest of them...

Patch: Performace Fix Version -> BugFix 3 version:  Patch is Windows Only! Sorry, don't know enough about Mac file structure to make this for Mac. This will update the Performance Fix version to the BugFix 3 version without needing a huge download. Hopefully. It worked ina quick test on my copy, at least. Drop the zip file into the directory with the game.exe for Chastity Quest, extract it, and overwrite all files when it asks. You might want to MAKE A BACKUP of the game.exe and data directories first, just in case something goes wrong. ALSO NOTE: This won't work for updating other versions. I make some major changes between the first bugfix version and the Performace Fix.

P.S. I've attached a .rtf file that at least lists all 38 scenes by their location and general requirements...if you can figure out my shorthand. It was my checklist file for testing. I'll be making a proper guide some time in the near future.

Release Notes Build 0.9(Patron Only)

This is essentially a Patron-only pre-release for what will be the full Build 1. It contains the VAST majority of the content for the first Hub Area, the starting town of Hope's Rest. Included are:

- 4 'Major' NPCs : Major meaning they have their own chats, backstory, and a considerable amount of sex content based around them.

- 1 Additional Named NPC: Chats and Backstory, minimal sex content.

 - Numerous Minor NPCs

- 4 Major Locations (plus the ruins, technically)

- 4 Jobs that can be performed around town at the various locations

- 38 unique sex scenes, many of them gated behind various requirements

Known Issues:

- Weirdly long load times between scenes at random. Not sure what's causing this. It may not even be a thing in the actual build, since I was testing using the developer's build tools.

- Random chance rolls not being as random as it should be. This is the engine's fault, not mine, thus not sure what to do about it. Sorry :-(.

- A single missing image in the Rogue chastity belt removal option. I didn't realize it was missing until too late to make it into the build.

- Some U.I. elements might not always be where they ought to. I THINK I have this fixed, but it was an issue up until just a couple of hours ago. It's minor issues like the Character Menu button not always appearing or disappearing as it should. Nothing game-breaking (I hope).

- For some reason, returning to the title menu after you start playing takes you to a default menu instead of my custom one. Since it still works for starting/loading games, it was too non-critical for me to dig into just yet.

- Probably lots of bugs and typos still. Sorry! PLEASE REPORT THEM, seriously, PLEASE.

Chastity Quest RELEASE!

Comments

Okay, I'm baffled on that one. My copy isn't doing that. My best guess is that it's a legitimate performance problem on your machine, as in your rig not being able to handle the stupid power draw the engine is causing. I'm currently doing a MAJOR overhaul to both reduce the file size and, hopefully, reduce the stress the dumbass engine is causing. I'm having to basically write my own bypass around their stupidity though, and I'm out of town due to a death in the family until Tuesday, so it's likely the new version won't be out until Wensday. Other than waiting for that version, I'm not sure what to do for you since I can't reproduce the issue at all on my copy :-(.

Novus

... Huh, I actually don't think anyone else has reported crashing after the prolouge/tutorial. I'll look into that specifically when I can (the Dol release is tomorrow, so might be a day or two to spare the time). Does the game still crash if you skip the tutorial? Just so I know if it's something in the tutorial causing it or if it's your first load into the game proper...

Novus

It is a bit big...and this is only the first of 5-6 Hub areas -_-. And the smallest of them for good measure. I'm definitely going to have to figure out how to knock down the size more. Or else cut the resolution down to 720p, which would also probably fix a lot of the remaining performance issues. I REALLY don't want to do that, though. Even so, I need to figure something out, one way or the other. Otherwise, the game might turn into like a 12gb monstrosity, which is just unreasonable.

Novus

Glad I could help, and thank you for making a patch instead of just a new download. This one is a bit heavy :P

Troqu

Troqu - Dude or Dudette, you're officially awesome! There was a straight-up bug in the Day/Night Background code for the main village area. Never would have found it without your report! I'm putting a patch up this time, that will take you from the Performace Fix version to the Bugfix 3 version (which I'll be uploading at well). Thanks for your bug report! It helped me big time!

Novus

Really? Hmmm. There's a check there that changes which background you get (day/night versions). I'll see if I can duplicate it and maybe see if adding that one extra check is pushing it over the edge. Come to that, I suppose I could remove the character menu button as well, since that call is annoyingly intense. Thanks for the feedback! Knowing it is happening at a specific time, at least for you, might help a lot!

Novus

For me it's just in the evening time slot. Attempting to Return to Town during that time triggers a freeze.

Troqu

This one is something I might know how you triggered but haven't yet figured out what's actually going on. Had you previously used the skip feature? Via either the CTRL key or the skip button? For some reason, during my testing, doing that would occasionally get a background image 'stuck' and it would follow you around, even if you manage to switch locations somehow. That SHOULDN'T be possible, as I have all pictures/backgrounds/video set to clear with every scene change. But somehow it happens and I haven't been able to track down the why...

Novus

Thank you for the feedback! I've updated the links again with a new version that will hopefully farther help the performance again. Though since I haven't experienced the issues with the return to town option, it may not address that. I'll need to see if I can reproduce it. It MIGHT be related to the major change I made though, which was cleaning up video files that had been opened in each scene.

Novus

I also managed to get the town entrance background to lock in in place of the black screen on one occasion, which made the game unplayable as all buttons were covered by it. I don’t recall what exactly I did to cause it beyond the fact that it was something to do with leaving the magic shop after refusing work.

Pyros51

Feedback here. Seems to be running decently, but there’s a consistent crash that seems to trigger off of the return to town option (both from locations and upon completion of an activity) that crashes the game to a permanently black screen.
