What To Expect: September 2020

We're finally going into the final three months of... "a year"; this wasn't "The Year" in the slightest for me, but at least we're hopefully close to a covid vaccine by now, and hopefully things will start going back to a slight semblance of normal!

On the Moonlit Brew side of things, we will be touching-up Chapter 3 Page 20! Script for the next new page for Chapter 5 will be worked on this month in preparation for October, as per usual. :)

As for ACES, I have a bit more to say! Specifically, we're getting towards the end of the first chapter, which is both exciting and sad; it's exciting because we're finally getting back on track to where this comic needs to be, and the comic's Twitter page has slowly but surely started attracting attention, so I am super optimistic about the potential this story has!

That being said, Uma has said that she has no interest in continuing this comic with me once this chapter finishes, so of course, this means I will need to find a new artist. Starting in September, I will actually be commissioning something I've never done before, but should have done a long time ago: ref sheets of the main characters!

The last artist search was a cluster, mainly due to the fact that the comic was too new for people to really understand the art style I wanted, and out of the 15 or so candidates, only 2 of them really understood it should look similar to Gravity Falls/SVTFOE, rather than the manga style that Moonlit Brew has.

Hopefully, with these reference sheets, it will make the transition to the next artist a lot smoother than ever before, while also giving people something that can help them make future fanart with!

Anyways, Uma and I will be working on Chapter 1 Pages 35-38! After this month, there will only be 6 pages left for Chapter 1.

For those who have followed July's What To Expect update (and before I continue, I must apologize for not making an August edition; IRL stuff happened...), and the news I was teasing was that I actually applied for copyrights with both ACES and Moonlit Brew! If things go swimmingly, I should get the certificates in October! I know that I technically own the rights "just by making them", but as I've mentioned in the past, I have big plans for my comics, including trying to make a pitch for an ACES animated series, so doing this will give me legal protection that I otherwise wouldn't have.

So, that's where we are today. Nothing super drastic has gone on personally, thank God, outside of a couple fast food places opening in town. Hope everyone's staying safe, because, fingers crossed, we're starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Comments

The good news is that we don't have to worry about it until November, as that's the current estimated timeframe of when Chapter 1 will finish; What I will probably do is, since I can only afford one ref sheet per month, is wait until the last ref sheet is made (conveniently) in November, and then I will go on the DA forums and post a job listing with the usual deets and show off the ref sheets. My hope is that these will attract more appropriate artists to this comic instead of those who have given me more realistic/superhero comic art styles a la the last artist search. >>

Wish you all the best in finding a new artist!
