September 21, 2024 - Update

Hi!

My day job kept me busy this week, robbing me of mental energy, but I still managed to get five chapters written. The book 11 chapters are difficult to write as so many details need to be clarified before I can write them, requiring a ton of thought. In addition, I’m starting to feel the pressure of all this world building and the lack of action.

I got the cover back from the designer this week. It’s what I asked for but it didn’t grab me immediately like some of the other covers. I asked for a few changes and when I get them back I’ll reveal it on patreon to get opinions (although I’m not sure how much I can change).

I decided on a possible prologue and released it tonight. I’m 99% sure this point of view will stay, although the exact contents and conversations might need massaging later.

If you’re in the Divine Tier and haven’t received your Book 10 and Cevin’s Sword, message me, you should’ve received them by now. Well, all but two of you. Two of our Divine friends are overseas and I haven’t mailed those yet. Also, please message me if you had to pay any type of postage. That should not happen.

Thank you for being part of the Divine Apostasy and Awakening stories. I do this for you.

Take care,

AFK

Okay. I get what you're saying

Yes to all of that. What I am feeling is that he's stuck in the destructive realm, mostly being told things rather than experiencing them in the first person. For example, he finds out that he has 25 slots where the the most powerful beings have 24. And a few of those slots have jewels in them. But it's all theoretical. If I were in such a position, I think I might try to, I don't know, flex a muscle or something, to see what it means to have a jewel in that spot. Then we get a reaction like, "oh, so that's what it does!" This would make the scene(s) a little more concrete. I can describe in great detail the workings of an internal combustion engine. That's much different than seeing the car move.

I agree on your points about world building. But how do figure he hasn't made his first step? He learned about his new body and powers and it's connection to the destruction realm. Reconnected with and had brainstorm session with Rami a and met her dad. Checked out Vex's updates and sent him to retrieve his friends so they can go after Lalquinrial. But only after outer verse. Ramis dads extorted help in getting their strength up to snuff for the coming battle and their intro to the outerverse. I think he's already planned the first couple steps and enacted at least two. The second, after boosting/ retrieving his friends, is understanding what it means to be the psion of ancient house and how he can use that to his immediate advantage by getting all the information he can from his predecessor in that role while he waits on the rest of his crew. It's definitely a lot of info. But he doesn't seem overwhelmed or indecisive to me. And I still have read over this so they're probably be an edit in the near future.

On the world building... The two approaches I have seen are 1) Front load, 2) give the character just enough information to move forward, then let then discover things that fill in the picture. You seem to be using 2) in you Ash novel, and 1) in book 11. Both work, but pacing becomes difficult with 2). Ruin is SO disoriented by his change that he is still trying to figure out a first step after 14 chapters. Universe expansion may be more difficult than world creation! (Just saw this in book 5 of Rowe's AA series.)
