Community Goal Achieved!

Hello everyone, quick update from me.

If you haven't seen the changes this month, I managed to get the extra chapters written for Longswords, meaning that they have those extra chapters!

(I'll be honest that until around 8pm tonight, so in 8 hours time, they'll technically have 8 chapters ahead. I got the extra 3 done this weekend and need tonight to get their 9th done, but that comes after work 😢 )

I am so thankful that you are all supporting me through Patreon.

~ Chapter 62 ~

Faye and Taveon stepped carefully as they made their way through the streets. Instead of the deserted and eerie streets of those Faye had already been through, there were long threads of vines and plants sprouting from places that they would not have, a day before.

This changed the streets from deserted to oddly crowded. A bank of blooming flowers, as out of place in the middle of winter as they were in the middle of the town, would take up half the space of an alleyway forcing them to ...

Saturday update!

Hello everyone, I hope you've had a good week and are having a wonderful weekend. We're almost to the end of the month, and I wanted to post an update to Patreon because it did occur to me that not everyone is on the Discord server (click to join, by the way!) and you won't all see when I'm writing away and what we're chatting abou...

~ Chapter 61 ~

Faye was still holding the boy when, a few minutes later, Taveon got to his feet. He had been tending to Maggie with the supplies he had to hand, a potion or two and some fresh water. He had a single absorbent cloth to wash away any dirt on the wound.

Now, he approached Faye and smiled at the boy, who had turned his head to look.

“Come on down, now, lad. I need to talk to our adventurer, eh?”

The boy nodded, and Faye reluctantly put him on the ground. He gave her a shy s...

Faye panted a little as she stared at the assassin. Her blade still lit with the flames she had commanded to ignite.

Part of her was saying oh my god that’s so cool I can’t believe that worked! How did I do that? It doesn’t matter I have to do it again and learn better and more magic.

And while the monkey portion of her brain chattered with excitement, the more rational part of her brain was worried. Her opponent had not seemed dismayed at Faye’s blatant use of ma...

Faye blinked. The leather-clad newcomer had not been wearing scabbards, nor any indication that they were hiding weapons. Seeing those deeply curved daggers appear from thin air and drop into their waiting hands made her hesitate.

Of course, the newcomer was not giving her any time to prepare. They ran straight at Faye and Maggie, letting out a high laugh as they came.

Lifting the short sword she held, Faye slashed across her body, a rising cut that could slice open an opponent’...

We hit our first goal!

That's amazing! Okay, so I'm working on some more chapters. Tappy tappy on the keyboard.

I'm also thinking about what other content would be good to add to tiers as we go.

We might have some polls on that in future.

I'm going to have a think about what I can offer for the next goal before I post that one. But once again, thank you for the support. It's amazing to see so many of you wanting to take part and help me write more of the story.

Thanks.

~ Chapter 58 ~

As time ticked onward, Faye felt the nerves rise higher and higher. Taveon was still out there. Presumably the kids were not yet safe. But she was still sitting on a bed, meditating to try and recover enough mana to do something.

Of course, the more she worried, the less she was able to meditate.

Faye had no evidence that meditation was helping her recover mana faster, but in the absence of evidence either way, she would rather try it and get even a minuscule bonus than n...

Thank you, day one patrons

It's almost midnight now and I've been absolutely amazed at the positive engagement the readers of Spellsword have shown with the Patreon in just 24 hours!

I never expected this.

I wanted to post quickly and tell you all that I greatly appreciate your patronage, it spurs me on to write even more for you fine folk, and I'm excited to share more of Faye's journey with you.

Thank you, once again.

All the best

~ Chapter 57 ~

Faye watched with bated breath as Maggie squared up to the massive hound, which she could now see rose to the height of Maggie’s shoulder, at least. The hound was wary of its opponents. Faye’s Scorching Lance spell had been more than strong enough to hurt it. Unfortunately, the monster still stood, and it looked at them as if wondering which one to eat first.

The burning patches of skin and thorny vines added to the intimidation factor.

Faye tried to slow her breathing. Withou...

And we're... live!

Patreon is finally here. There are currently 6 chapters advance reading of the RoyalRoad release!

Select a tier to read 1, 3, or 6 chapters ahead at a time. That equates to 2 days, 1 week, or 2 weeks.

I'm still getting used to Patreon, so there may be some slight teething issues. Please let me know if you spot any! And, don't forget to link 2022-07-12 12:38:44 +0000 UTC View Post

~ Chapter 56 ~

By the time Faye and Maggie had worked up the nerve to move forward, the God forsaken monster that had padded through on insect-like feet had disappeared. The fronds of strange grass that had risen in its wake had rapidly decayed, so a strange, blackened carpet of dead grass showed them where it had gone.

“We should stay far away from that thing,” Maggie said, fear shaking her voice.

“It could have taken a prisoner…” Faye said.

“I know, but there’s no point giv...

Faye was leading Maggie through the streets of LĂłthaven, taking the back routes and winding alleys behind houses and through gardens as much as they could. So far, they had avoided most of the monsters that Faye had sensed with her active skill.

“This is the last part, we have to cross the road,” Maggie said, confirming what Faye had already thought but had not wanted to say aloud.

“I was afraid you would say that,” she replied.

The road ahead was thronging with mon...

Faye was racing along the streets of Lóthaven, angling towards the scream and sounds of fighting she had heard. A part of her was anxious at leaving Taveon’s house alone, but that small army of briars outside precluded most courses of action for Faye.

Saving someone who was fighting for their lives in the streets, though? That was something Faye knew she could help with.

She rounded a corner at a run and came almost immediately face to face with an Awakened Briar. Its hulking f...

The adventurer’s retreat from the site of the downed beast was not what they would call orderly. Arran was not able to cover the whole flank at once, and Gavan had drained himself of most of his mana already.

Ailith and Faye were the roving defence. By pairing up, they were able to quickly lock down and take out any of the monsters following.

Unlike the briars, these were flesh and blood creatures that, whilst not fire-lovers, were certainly not as susceptible to fire damage as ...

As Faye watched the crafters dismantle the beast’s corpse, she wondered what it would be like to be subject to their ministrations.

Apparently, crafting used up monstrous resources quite regularly. It was one of the primary exports of LĂłthaven. That and some of the final products, of course. Crafters like Mich and the others were not masters of their chosen art or trade.

They groused that people that could call themselves masters would have grand palaces and manors to call home...
