Bellagarth's Quest Devlog #10: Smashing our way out of Shroom Hollow

Comin' back atcha with another devlog for my bitchass pizza tower clone

This section was a doozy to construct but super fun once it all came together. There was a lot of other tiny tweaks in-between like adding a dodge move and fixing up some UI stuff (showing actual gamepad buttons for displays rather than just the word for the button). But most of that stuff is BOOOOORING.

This devlog does also feature me proposing some general ideas I've been knocking around in my head so feel free to give it a listen and let me know what you think!

my one (selfish) request: more bellagarth burps and more characters burping lol. perhaps when she’s in this bouncing form it could be every couple of hard bounces or something.

Really loved playing the demo, you’ve married the feel of super mario world with a mix of your incredible style and a little of Banjo/Kazooie to boot.

Super appreciate the heads up! I've since addressed this problem but it is an issue with the save function and how it handles loading. You can fix that by exiting to the world map and re-entering the level 👍

I quit out of the game in the spa area for the night and just started it up and I have the spa spright I. The area right before you meet gnash just thoght Id bring this up

Thank you!! The game would not be where it's at without people's feedback and I'm certain it will keep getting better thanks to player feedback. Wave 41 is unbeatable by design lol, next time I'll just force the game to end so the player isn't confused (theres no wave 42, if you could beat wave 41 the game would just crash lol)

The idea of a badge attached to the save file for hard mode and also including little incentives to completely finishing levels as others here have suggested seems like a good path forward. It would actually have people want to find extras throughout the level besides just wanting to do it because they feel like it. Bag-pipe and ShoreMcLoving pretty much nailed it on the head with what I could imagine the game being like moving forward. Besides that the look and feel of the game is wonderful. BQ is a really great game so far and the way you craft the story makes each and every encounter unique and fun, I'm looking forward to what you have in store with this one. *Also little side question, when it comes to Wave 41 of Vera's little game do I just have really bad setups or is there a proper way to get through it? Because I can't survive it for the life of me lol*

I love the detail you put into the animations, making ones you probably don't even need to & we wouldn't notice if they weren't there, but we definitely notice when you do!

Yep that's correct! The badge upgrading based on feats like beating the game or 100%ing it is a very good idea!

I never considered that but I really like the idea of a *freakier* but still playful incentive to 100% a level with a lil fairy or creature getting bigger the more you accomplish

...huh. thinking about the badge thing... while I've of course seen achievements for playing a game through harder difficulties, I don't know if I've seen the inverse - getting a hard mode badge on the save when you START and keeping it through the game UNLESS you swap difficulties, causing you to lose it. maybe the badge gets a minor upgrade with a 100%? hopefully I took your meaning right, cause I think that's a cool way of implementing it.

Yknow its pretty awesome seeing this progress. And how things just continue to get more and more interesting as you develop this game, its very impressive. Personally I like the idea of having another difficulty, maybe on the starting screen you could add a mini fairy or something with an "achievements" sign its holding onto with a complete% next to it. And as the number gets higher the fairy fills more and more with air or something, you can play around with her in the title screen and check your book for things you are missing or need to do. Or maybe just add badges for each difficulty completed. Maybe on the hardest says something like "biggest barbarian" lol... I have no idea what im talking about xd Can't wait to see more of the *freaaakkyyy* stuff you got planned
