Angel 5x9 In Harm's Way

OOH yay, we have a Harmony episode! It often feels like she is a "background" character. Someone there for easy laughs and Spike's occasional play thing. Yes, she is... sometimes... shallow, but this episode reminded me there is more to Harmony than we might think. Case in point, one of her final lines in this episode which I also talk about in the outro. I didn't think of it like that before... And it's so true. I have a bit more sympathy and respect for her now πŸ’œ

Also, the title is 'Harm's Way,' not 'In Harm's Way.' Love the pun with her name.

Catching up on some of your Angel reactions. Just wanted to say that while Spike's reasoning for staying behind feels a little flimsy, and of course the main reason is for the narrative purpose of keeping him around for the season, it does make sense in a way. He didn't believe Buffy when she told him she loved him, but it was the last thing she said to him, and he's terrified of the chance that he shows up wherever she is in Europe, only to realize that he was right after all, and she doesn't feel that way about him. After all the times Buffy told him she could never love him, this fear is completely valid. But of course he wouldn't admit such 'cowardice' to Harmony, so he obscures the truth a bit. It would've been nice to have him explain himself to Fred on screen, because we might've gotten a more truthful insight into his real thoughts on the matter.

That commercial in the beginning is just hilarious. Angel looking uncomfortable is everything. And poor Harmony, her life isn't easy...:-)

Fear of the end of Angel is a reasonable response. Hankies need to be in stock. I was thinking of a show that's similar in tone to Buffy/Angel/Firefly and Farscape is the nearest I can come up with. Have you seen it? Harm's Way, which I've seen more than a dozen times, holds up. Still fresh fun. This time I saw the theme of bullying come through more clearly. It's easy to pass that off as a joke in the context but the authors' intent does want us to take it seriously regardless of how frivolous Harmony is. And I've always loved her closer with Spike when he puts in perspective her importance. Its a candid piece of empowerment.
