This feels like one of those magical episodes. They hook you in, right from the start. I must say Peter Capaldi has the BEST storyteller voice. That rich, gravelly and deep tone just makes you want to stop and... LISTEN.
Creepy, emotional, exciting... It's another episode of Doctor Who π

One of my favourite episodes. Who need CGI monsters when a blanket will do! So scary with a lovely bit of timey wimeyness as well - yes, wimeyness is a real word, honest

This is the episode that sold me on Capaldi. I was so excited when he was first announced but I only started to really get his Doctor after this. He's a phenomenal actor and his Doctor might seem rude, but he's just frustrated. He wants to understand people but he wants them to keep up with him and live up to his expectations.
Maybe this episode explains a lot about the Doctor. He is afraid of the dark because he doesn't know what's there. When he was a child he hid away, but when he grew up he learned to confront it. He might still be afraid inside, but he needs to understand it to overcome it.

I had no idea, but that would have been a VERY different show.

With all the recommends in the comments I felt I should go see what else Capaldi's done. Holy fork! He auditioned for the role of Benjamin Sisko? For Deep Space 9 fans that's a massive deal. Holy fork again!

Watching this ep for the first time gave me 'Midnight' vibes but I love these sort of episodes and the the look on Clara's face when she has the has the revelation of being on Gallifrey is just perfect and still makes my spine tingle whenever I go back to rewatch.
