Buffy 7x1 Lessons

You know what I love about this episode? The first episode of season 7? It feels like we're going back home. We've come such a long way, through so many hard times and great moments as well. It now feels like we've come back home after a while of being away, and we've grown and we've changed but we're back.

It feels great. Positive. I know I say this all the time, but I can't help that positive side of me 😅 I really do feel excited for this season! Our final one.... And what a great beginning.

Thank you to everyone for your comments on the last Buffy post! Everyone was so easy going... I honestly am incredibly grateful. I will upload an extra episode next week which will allow us to keep the Buffy/Saturday and Angel/Tuesday going forward until we have some double up episodes towards the end of the season.

A first episode. Yes indeed.

I love that the show did not 'gloss over' the events of the finale. To have Giles take Willow back to England with him so that she could (a) get the hell away from the Hellmouth and (b) allow her to be trained properly by the coven, was the logical way to go. There are consequences for every action. good or bad.

You're a bit wrong. We're not going back home. We're going back to the beginning. Not the bang, and not the word. The true beginning. Yes. Your reaction to that last scene was about the same as mine the first time I saw this. No words. just watching as your jaw succumbed to the forces of gravity. To see all of those big bads coming back, and all of their scary speeches, that is truly about as cool as Buffy gets. When something like that comes on all you can do is watch...then hit rewind and watch again. Cool trivia. The horse was named Otto, and was Anthony Stewart Head's own horse. The scenes were filmed on Head's farm outside Bath.

Just as season 6 is my favourite season, and yet contains some of my least favourite episodes; season 7 is my least favourite seasons that also contains some of my absolute favourite episodes in all of Buffy. Weird how that works with shows sometimes. I do really love this episode though, especially the ending. Plus it gets bonus points for the 1960s Twilight Zone reference ("to serve man is a cookbook"). You should totally react to some old Twilight Zone episodes as well. I might be able to provide them to you as well. I also do absolutely love seeing Willow with Giles being properly trained, and her accepting that training. I will always give credit where it's due, and season 7 gets a massive amount of credit from me for that scene. As someone who has practiced Wicca for almost 37 years now, it was incredibly satisfying to see Willow talking about being trained by a coven. Also Halfrek mentions the Crimean War. The Crimean War was in 1854, meaning if she was Cecily when she met Spike/William in 1881 then she met him as a vengeance demon when he was still human. There really are some fantastic episodes to come.

The ending of this episode is one of my all time favorite Buffy scenes! I love that they were able to get everyone back for that brief appearance.

"Dawn's in trouble. Must be Tuesday." (It's actually Monday here in the states, but I couldn't resist quoting that).

Btw, maybe this helps, there is an audio series partly written and directed by Amber Benson (Tara). It does also feature (at least) Tara, Spike, Giles and Cordelia. I haven't heard it yet, but I understand that it should definitely be listened to after watching Buffy S7 (and maybe also after S5 of Angel). The information I wrote above is spoiler free, because it's been heavily advertised that these 4 are a part of it and that Amber was very prominent in the production process. How they manage to bring Tara back I don't know but I'm guessing parallel universe?

Merry Xmas! I think I have to wait a bit before I can watch season 7 (a lot of family being around right now, so not so much time for TV), but then, in the new year, I try to do it "properly" for the first time because I have S7 on DVD. But thank you for your YouTube edits anyway, I think they are really well edited!

And to you, Michael! All the best to wrap up the end of 2024 💜
