Doctor Who 6x6 The Almost People - CLEAN

SO - the ending. HELLO! Did not see that coming at all 🤣 that's one thing I have been ADORING about Matt Smith's run as the Doctor... so many things I am unable to predict or even contemplate as a possibility. I admit, I love it when I see little story beats before the arrive, but I love it even more when HUGE stuff happens that I did NOT think of as possible!

I preferred this episode a lot more than the last one. I understand we had to establish the story, settings and all the characters, but this one really ramped things up.

I was a bit (a lot) confused throughout this episode, especially with Jennifer. Her story confused me, and also having Rory bonded with her, always following her around? I just don't know why he wasn't with Amy - or they should have gone together. SO many things these characters do that I would never 😅 but then again, you'd not rely on me for epic things such as saving the world!

Doctor Who 6x6 The Almost People - CLEAN

Comments

Absolutely agree, the episode goes from trying to showcase the humanity of the gangsters, to the Doctor immediately liquefying ganger Amy at the end. I can only assume he knew she was an avatar since he mentioned a signal pointing to her. Can't wait for the next episode though. Truly the one I believe we are all waiting for.

@Matthew: I think you are right about that, but I think it should have been made more clear within the story. The episode's message is (as far as I remember) about all the Gangers worldwide are sentient and not just those who rebelled.

Oliver

Just to clarify, I believe Amy's ganger isn't actually a separate person or copy like the others, but is more of an avatar. This is why she is surprised when she finally "wakes up" about to give birth. To her it's like being disconnected from the Matrix - still the same person and consciousness, but transitioning from digital to real world if that makes sense.

Matthew Mecsery

Can't wait for the next episode. Easily the best of Series 6.

There is ("prequel to A good man guess to war") but imo it's more a teaser/ad then an important Minisode. It's ok. There are others of this kind that actually spoil something, sometimes something big, sometimes just the dramaturgy of the next episode's beginning. So I'm advising to actually watching them after each season as extra material. But that's just me.

Oliver

That being said, I accepted it and enjoyed the ride 😁

Oliver

Yeah, I guess that's it, but it's also a bit lazy of the writer. The effect of annihilating Amy's Ganger is an epic reveal. Just leaving her with the other Gangers or keeping her on the Tardis would have made it far more complicated. Nevertheless I'd have preferred it, if there was a distinction between self-aware Gangers and mere goo that is telepathically linked to their originals... I guess that's my main issue with Steven Moffat's storytelling: He's great in arcs and reveals but not so great in being coherent.

Oliver

I'm sure there's a minisode before the next episode I may be wrong ?

Dave

Yeah, the Rory thing I still don't like 🤣 He should be by Amy's side! On a leash! And made to beg and do tricks. Wait, this is the wrong forum. OOPS. I have been noticing a delightful trend of cliffhangers both here with Doctor Who AND Buffy AND Angel. Are they trying to give me more grey hairs?! I love it though, especially when it's something I've not been able to guess. I never saw this coming, they definitely played this one close to their chests! Thank you, Neil! I've had an okay day.... I recorded tomorrow's gaming video and the game was pretty buggy and not great so I didn't know if it could be salvaged. I think I've managed to get something entertaining out of it though, so let's hope. It's getting a bit stressful. I'm going away for a few days soon and I have to say I really do need a break to not worry about things for a bit! I hope you have a lovely day ahead, Neil 💜🥰

Yeah, that is a bit of a mystery. He so easily disposed of Flesh Amy without a thought. I wonder if his priority then was finding the real Amy whereas the other Gangers had their real Human people around and not missing.

Juliette Gaming

Yes!! It's all falling into place... WOW. So brilliantly done!

Juliette Gaming

I NEVER ever, EVER, would have thought it was Flesh Amy!! Not once did that thought enter my head. This is why I love these moments in Doctor Who! There's nothing better than being surprised and I think Matt's Doctor has delivered the MOST surprises. It's brilliant!!

Juliette Gaming

The look on your face as Flesh Amy disintegrated was absolutely priceless. And now it begins to come together. You know by now that the whole season builds toward it's finale by dropping breadcrumbs the whole way through. The back half of this season is some of Matt's best Doctor. Loving your reactions as always, all caught up now and looking forward to more. :)

The Rising Ape

I gotta say Matt Smith's acting at the beginning of this part 2 will always amaze me. The way he brought up references to older doctors. Just so well done!

Larissa Reimer

Not sure if you put this together, but this means when Amy mentioned the doctors death to what she thought was the "ganger" doctor she was talking to the original doctor. So now he is aware he will die at some point and invite everyone to see it (which they made a point about not letting him be aware of what River, Amy and Rory saw.)

Geo

(especially after we saw that he accepted Rory as real when he was just a plastic centurion)

Oliver

Great storytelling without doubt, but I always found it very hypocritical of the Doctor to establish that the gangers' lifes are as valuable as the humans', but then killing off Amy's ganger just like that. I guess it would be too complicated story-wise to look after her as well but nonetheless it's a bit strange to see that right at the end of this particular episode.

Oliver

Rory, who once stood guard over Amy for 2000 years, and knowing they're currently in a dangerous situation, just decides to go and follow some stranger about? Hmmmmm. What an ending though! I'm not usually a big fan of cliffhangers but that was definitely a good one! Not to mention extremely surprising! Not even you Juliette, who's superpower seems to be guessing/predicting story elements (the Doctor swapping shoes) seemed to have any inkling about Amy. Thanks for another great reaction. Hope you have a lovely day Juliette 💜

This season has so many twists and turns.
