Angel 3x18 Double or Nothing

This is an episode that I have mixed feelings about. I enjoyed the Angel side of things, and the ending shows a lot of promise for taking steps forward.

But the Gunn side of things - especially the conversation he had with Fred - was a bit of a miss for me. It feels like another Wesley moment, not telling the group about something and then it just gets worse.

Maybe there is a lesson in this. The Angel team are family. They will be there to help each other through thick and thin, no matter the problem. One day they may realise what an incredible support network they have and feel comfortable to tell each other everything - even the embarrassing stuff!

Actually, I'm on Gunn's side (unlike with Wes - though I think it makes good drama) on not telling Fred. He was concerned they would try to stop him and that Jenoff would harm her. He was protecting her. As to how he ended up breaking up with her, though, is a different story....

The funny thing about Gunn breaking up with Fred as a plan…Fred doesn’t believe it for an instant! 😁

Person of Interest actually has a premise very similar to Angel. A group of good guys, operating on the shady side of the law, are given hints about persons (of Interest) who need their help. The hints come from a seemingly omniscient source (the Powers That Be???) whom we never meet. Amy Acker's character is a behind the scenes presence in the first season and she shows up in person in the second season.

OOH thank you!! I've heard of some of those, and have always been curious about Cabin in the Woods, despite hating horror. The addition of comedy has me curious, I must admit 😅

NEIL! You're so lovely. I could easily use those words to describe you, as well. The rain has been very welcome here, though I've had to call in the plumber as one of the downpipes was leaking but that's all sorted now. Apparently the last plumber didn't install it properly, and didn't use glue or anything. It sounds like me playing a simulator game, to be honest 🤣 Veilguard looks GREAT from what I've seen! I've been playing Astroneer in the evenings, and loving exploring. Enjoy your upcoming weekend and the two weeks off (thank you for elaborating - I'd worry otherwise!!) though I am envious.... It's nice to hear you have time off without needing to. I'm off for an eye test next week as I'm suddenly feeling VERY old as I've started holding out bottles/jars etc at arms length as I can't read the writing. GEEZ. I'll be as old as you, soon!

I've only seen Amy Acker in a couple of other roles, although I know of a third show that she also had a big part in. She's quite an evil bad guy in the final season of Alias. (I think you would really like this show, if you're thinking about something to start once you finish the Buffy-verse shows. It's a spy show, that gets some major science-fiction elements from time to time. It's also the show that made Jennifer Garner a star, and you also get to see a early pre-fame Bradley Cooper.) She plays the mother of a pair of mutants in the X-Men based show The Gifted. And she plays a pretty big role in the show Person of Interest, although I've never watched that. Oh, and she also has a part in the horror-comedy film Cabin in the Woods.

Juliette 🥰 I did have a good day thanks. I've got two weeks off work (just relaxing, nothing to do with you know what) and I'm thoroughly enjoying playing Dragon Age Veilguard at the moment. You know, the way you described Fred there (adorable, genuine, happy to be herself) is pretty much exactly how I'd describe yourself if someone asked. I've seen Amy Acker in things here and there over the years, but my favourite role of hers other then Fred is her role in Person of Interest. Only problem with that is she didn't join the show until it was already a few seasons in. Would have been great if she'd been there from the start. Anyway, enjoy the cooler, wet weather Juliette. Rain can be strangely relaxing right?

There are scenes on Buffy, Angel AND Doctor Who that I just do NOT want to see! I often wonder if people get annoyed if I look away, but I'm not okay with staring at something scary 🤣 Fred IS adorable! She also seems so genuine. She's never trying to be someone she's not, she's happy to be herself - quirks and all. It's what makes her so special, I think 💜 I'd actually like to see more of her in other shows/movies! I hope you had a good day, Neil 🥰 it's been a bit rainy here and cooler weather, which is nice!

Admittedly, I don't watch a lot of tv shows or movies, but I have noticed a lot of body comments in Buffy and Angel and I do wonder if those are things people would say these days! I was a teen in the 90s and grew up with all the media body shaming celebrities so I'm used to it, but it's something I've often wondered about!

It's nice that Gunn got to have a happy ending with his best girl. And also Fred too.

I like this episode. Although I agree with you that I dislike how Gunn chose to handle the situation by being mean to Fred. Especially the stick figure comment. That's very hurtful and unnecessary.

"All I'm thinking of is that I've got to edit that scene!" 🤣 Love your reaction to Jenoff's slimey head growing back. I do agree with you though, it was very gross & disturbing! I can't believe Gunn traded his soul for a truck! He could have at least picked something cool like a motorcycle! Why Gunn thought the best thing to do was to be horrendously horrible to Fred and then go and get himself killed I don't know. Like you said, it was totally another Wesley style moment of not turning to friends for help. And it's especially bad since the thing with Wesley had JUST happened and they saw what a mistake it was to keep things secret. Slightly off topic, but I have to say that Fred has to be the cutest character there's ever been. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks that right? Thanks for another excellent reaction Juliette 💜
