Doctor Who 6x1 The Impossible Astronaut

What an incredible start to series 6! WOW! I forgot to mention in the outro, but I recognise Crowley from Supernatural 😊😊

LOTS of good things in this episode. The aliens are scary (I could barely look). I'm so happy and surprised to see River again so soon. Amy and Rory are SO cute together (and the ending with what Amy told the Doctor?! Again, I say WOW!), and the beginning was just SO exciting, if a little confusing as I had no clue what was happening.

Great episode!!

When they are picnicing on the beach, the Doctor drinks wine and then says 'I thought it would taste more like the gums' He is referring to Wine Gums, a sweet from the UK (do you call them lollies in Australia?) which is a bit like gummy bears but harder. Contrary to the name, Wine Gums do not contain wine, nor are they wine flavoured. Instead they are fruit flavoured, strawberry, orange, lemon, lime, grapefruit and blackcurrant

It must be the same thing OR they've reused a prop, which I don't think they would. Too many eagle eyes 🀣

I never noticed the connection to the lodger space ship and the new alien room down there. I’m going to look closer at that πŸ‘€

Interesting. I'm in Germany and I only know this season with that intro. Didn't know that it wasn't used in the UK version.

same I had to resync my Blu-ray lol

Welcome to season 6. This is where it gets complicated.

So much amazing things in here that are real brain teasers! This is the first time we get to see the "spoilers sweetie" from Rivers perspective, and we are in on the secret too. I like the idea that River and Amy both felt sick after seeing the alien, making us wonder if its because of prison food, and pregnancy? Or is it that sick feeling you get when you've had a fright, but in this case they don't understand why they are feeling sick? Moffat loves to throw these teasers in haha. Oh and I know you don't like to look at this alien, but don't worry about it, you'll just forget what it looks like as soon as it's offscreen. 🀣🀣🀣. There's something about this Doctor, with Amy, Rory, and River that reminds me of the scooby gang from Buffy. They really gel well together as a team.

Sorry, Boone! There are just so many prequels for this season and a lot of them are just a minute or so long.

Juliette Gaming

OOOH I didn't know that! Sorry πŸ˜”

Ooh I've not heard of William before! I'm glad they could share that experience together.

Yeah, was living in the UK when I first saw all the 11 / Amy episodes, and seeing the recap intro the first time was....interesting.

your faceeees I can't lol

For season 6 there are a variety of minisodes, some being prequels to particular episodes. I know there are prequels to episode 1 (this episode), episode 3 (episode names are spoilers), episode 8, and episode 13 (side note, gotta love when seasons were this long rather than the short 6-8 episode seasons we get now).

I forgot about that watching from the uk I had to sync the episode again lol πŸ˜‚

You recognised Mark Sheppard as Crowley from Supernatural but did you realise that the older man that met them on the beach was his dad, William Morgan Sheppard, also a well respected actor, though sadly no longer with us. I love this episode and this season as a whole. As I'm sure you can tell already, it has a reputation for being a little confusing, but this opening episode played with time travel in ways the show hasn't quite tried before so I can't not enjoy it.

The recap intro with Amy is unique to the American and Australian airings of the show on air and on netflix. also, this episode originally aired with a dedication to Elisabeth Sladen, who passed away a few days prior.

Which one was that...

The Dog Whisperer

"The day's coming when I'll look into that man's eyes, my Doctor, and he won't have the faintest idea who I am. And I think it's going to kill me" No clue if you connected the dots, but she was referencing the Library episode from series 4. That is when she sees "her Doctor" and he has no idea who she is. And it does kill her... Also when she mentions her meeting the Doctor for the first time herself, you looked like you were trying to remember that episode, don't worry, you haven't seen it yet. They meet back to front, you need to see an older Doctor meet a younger River which means a future episode. On a side note, the forgetting aliens (won't say their name cos spoilers) are my favourite aliens in Doctor Who. The idea that you can instantly forget them when you look away is both intriguing and terrifying.

You didn't do the prequel minisode nooooo :(
