Doctor Who 6x0 A Christmas Carol

And here we are, the beginning of series 6 and it's a Christmas Special!

This was such a beautiful episode. I adored it. Funny, touching, emotional - it had so many wonderful moments. Just such a great start! I'm so excited to see where this series takes us πŸ’œ

I really enjoy this one. There are 2-3 Christmas episodes I watch every Christmas season. This is one of them.

April Lord-Brown

Oh I'd love you to react to Sherlock, Juliette! When you have some time πŸ˜€

The fact that this show got a top-level actor such as Michael Gough demonstrates just how well DW was doing. And yes, I cried my little eyes out at the ending. Still do, in fact. We should expect that by now. Still catches us by surprise, though.

My fave Christmas episode for sure. So beautiful. Katherine Jenkins has such an amazing voice, too

Definitely check it out, my absolute favourite British TV series. Almost every episode is an absolute ride. Each episode is a 90 minutes film and there are 4 "seasons" of 3 episodes and 1 full length special (so, alas, only 13 episodes, but never cancelled, they merely stopped on a high - and I guess also because Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman became too famous and had many other (Hollywood) projects. The series has many references to the classic Conan Doyle stories but it's not necessary at all to know those.

This is an exquisite episode, full of the "fairytale" ambience that Steven Moffat brought to Doctor Who in his first year as showrunner. It's also just such a pleasure to look at, thanks to the arrival of genius production designer Michael Pickwoad (who will be around for the next five series) heralding a major upgrade in the visuals of the show. About the only blemish in the story is the unfortunate case of idiot plotting whereby the Doctor has to somehow fail to notice the great big number counting down right on the front of Abigail's casket. Against that, however, is the reveal of young Kazran at the "ghost of Christmas Future" moment, which is a brilliant piece of writing (and a twist that I think most viewers fail to see coming). And it's hard not to be moved as the Doctor induces Kazran to become a better person by literally embracing his inner child... :-)

Hi have you been told about 2 comic relief minisodes called Space and Time they not essential but they are set between the christmas special aand season 6.

Is it best Christmas episode? Maybe, maybe not. Is it my personal favourite Christmas episode. Hell yeah it is!! Katherine Jenkins (Abigail) is the biggest selling Classical Music artist of the 21st Century, Globally! She sang all the parts herself. The wonderful late and great Michael Gambon (Dumbledor if you didn't already make the connection) said that in those last scene's, he kept flubbing his part because he was so enamored by her singing. Believe it or not, this is actually Katherines first acting role, and didn't she just NAIL it!!!

A fabulous Christmas episode indeed. Filled with hope and optimism and joy and tragedy and pain and suffering. And there's The Doctor, doing what he can to add a little more light to the darkness. One of the things I love about this episode is how it makes Christmas Day so important, without bringing in any religious connotations at all. "Halfway out of the dark" is such an important thing to celebrate and it explains why there is a Christmas Day across so many different planets and cultures.

Crazy we are about to step into season 6 next week! Where did the time go! I've really came to enjoy watching your reaction to Doctor Who. I hope you plan on watching some minisodes before Season 6. I think I remember seeing there being a few before the next season.

Ikr! Every Wednesday I’m excited to come on here after work to find another episode to watch her reacting to πŸ˜ŠπŸ’œ

A Christmas Carol done the way only Doctor Who can. Great stuff as always.

The Rising Ape

I love how this Christmas special blends a story around Christmas, rather than just a regular story set a Christmas time, Eg. The Christmas invasion (10th doctors first episode). One thing I realised watching this is episode, is that one of elements that makes doctor who season 1-10 so special is how simultaneously hopeful yet sad it can make you feel.

'You know in 900 years of time and space I've never met anyone who wasn't important before' God I just love Eleven with all my heart ❀️

Michael Harrop

Ooh I've not seen that one! I heard about it at the time. Might have to check it out!

Juliette Gaming

It was just wonderful πŸ₯°

This special was aired a few months after the first season of the BBC series "Sherlock" (which was also co-written by Steven Moffat). The scene in the beginning where the Doctor deduces Kazran is afraid of his father is done very much like similar moments in "Sherlock". A beautiful nod to the other series.

Oliver

This is one of the best Christmas specials in my opinion. Possibly THE best. And a stellar performance from the late Sir Michael Gambon. Child me couldn't get my head around watching Dumbledore be so cruel when this first aired haha.

Brian

This is my favorite Xmas episode...

The Dog Whisperer

Always look forward to my Wednesday fix. Yeah, this is a proper tear jerker, such a brilliant twist on the Dickens story.
