Doctor Who 5x13 The Big Bang - Early Access & CLEAN

What a beautiful ending to series 5! I loved that there were so many surprises in this episode, just like the last one. That's been something that's really stood out to me in these two episodes - so many things happened that I didn't expect or anticipate. Often, when I am watching some shows or movies, it's easy to see what's coming. I just LOVE that I was surprised over and over. Brilliant!! Wonderful writing!

I hope you enjoy, and let's head into series 6! I think there are some minisodes coming up with people have told me about (space, time, good night and bad night) so I will slot those in where appropriate as well 🤗

I'm so glad you enjoyed, Chris!!

I definitely would love to watch some classic Who one day! I don't have the episodes on my streaming services (I don't think??) but it definitely is on my to do list!

Juliette Gaming

SAME!! I loved that!!

Space, Time, and the impossible astronaut prequel all take place between the Christmas special and series 6. The five "night" minisodes all taken place between series 6 and the 2011 Christmas special.

Boone Bluemel

The Doctor's arms-in-the-air wibbley dance was entirely improvised. I know. Shocking.

Martin Holt

The moment that blew my noodle in this episode was when the Doctor went BACK to the forest starship full of Weeping Angels to tell Amy to remember him. That tiny little moment, forgotten by all, turned out to be the most important moment in the series. THAT is some serious backplanning.

Martin Holt

@OverWims: Yeah, imo that's Moffat's way of saying "Don't bother about the incongruous and illogical things I sometimes write, just enjoy the ride" 😁

Oliver

"We're all stories in the end" I love that line for more than just this episode.

Thank you for another season of reactions <3 I feel excited as if I am watching it for the first time. This is NOT SPOILERS or related to the next season, Can I suggest you watch Doctor Who: The Movie (TV Movie 1996) before you watch the season 6? It takes place before the 9th doctor and the time war. You don't have to commit to watching the entire classic series but a few stories from the past doctors here and there as you watch the next seasons would make perfect sense and you will enjoy the future episodes more. The TV movie would be a good start. If I were you I would also try the first stories of the first doctor too. You will be surprised how much old Doctor Who feels like Doctor Who.

YES! That moment with the angels... My goodness, what a beautiful scene! Remembering that moment and then seeing how it was set up. WOW. Just WOW. It truly is such a masterpiece of a show, brilliant writing. Love it so much.

Juliette Gaming

Yes, I will be watching all Christmas episodes as I have access to them all 😊😊

Juliette Gaming

YES! Honestly, I didn't think anyone could be as good as David Tennant for me, but Matt.... He's amazing.

Juliette Gaming

I've been watching Doctor Who since Jon Pertwee's run and Matt Smith is very much my favourite Doctor. He's just brilliant at depicting age and youth and genius and insanity and someone who is alien and yet so human.

What a finale. Yet more evidence that this (10, 11 and 12) is The Doctor's greatest era, wonderful writing with some absolutely beautiful moments for 11 from "Hello, I'm The Doctor" in The Eleventh Hour to "Something Old..." in this one and I'm not afraid to admit that the moment of Amy remembering him still brings a tear to my eye. A little Tidbit for you... this is never actually explained on screen so it's not a spoiler but if you look it up online you will find information on future episodes so be warned... The Doctor and River are meeting each other in the opposite direction through time, ie his first meeting with her is her last with him and thusly her first will be his last. There is an in universe explanation for this but, again, getting into it would be very, very spoilery, so that's enough of that for now. If you want to talk more about it after Capaldi's run I'd be happy to as it's amazing writing once you get into the wibbly wobbly details. Wonderful reaction as always Jules, Christmas episode next and they're always fun... big stuff still to come for 11 and companions in the next season and I can't wait for certain moments (those who've seen before know what I'm talking about) but until then... Geronimo.

The Rising Ape

I agree Matt Smith is a great Doctor! He seems so old and so young at the same time. Kind of authoritative and childlike at once, he does an amazing job. I don’t think this series had any bad episodes at all, and it wraps up so neatly! Such a fantastic ending. Love River but I won’t say anything about her here. Spoilers! 🤫

Beth

I haven't seen this series for at least 10 years. It was great watching it again with you.

Chris Green

There's a minisode coming up which questions the two-timelines thing in a way

OverWims

Amelia was thirsty because her drink was stolen. Her drink was stolen because she was thirsty. Gotta love doctor who and its paradoxes 🤣

OverWims

Don't forget the Christmas episode (usually rated in the top 3 Dr. Who Christmas episodes).

Finally the Finale! I (and I guess many others) waited since Episode 5 for this comment: There ( https://youtu.be/QuHqb_cMdEw&t=7m43s ) the doctor changed his mood abruptly when he talked about Amy having to trust him and remember, which seemed just like a doctory mood-swing and nothing more, but: He was wearing his jacket which he lost to a Weeping Angel just moments before that scene and which he also doesn't wear after this scene. Not many viewers noticed that when they watched it for the first time (I didn't) and even some who did, thought it to be only a continuity error, but now we know it wasn't, it was just a visit from his future self. Same foreshadowing, but in a more subtle way, happened in episode 1 when Amelia has been waiting for the doctor's return ( https://youtu.be/4vqhKFvZ-GI&t=5m28s ) We see a shadow passing, which we assume might be Prisoner Zero, but now it's much more likely it's the future doctor who just carried her to her bed. I like the way Moffat planted these moments in early episodes. A completely different thing: when I first watched this season, it wasn't clear to me that Rory in this new version of a "rebooted" universe was a normal human again and also stayed that way, which confused me later. Now I think it's pretty obvious, but I think the whole preposterous reboot-shtick annoyed me a bit back then. Rory and Amy remembering everything that happened in the "original" universe doesn't really make any sense either, so I think it's okay to be confused and just accept that both variations of the universe are part of Rory's, Amy's, River's and the Doctor's past and memories (a gift from the Tardis?). That's where I usually stop to worry about the illogical parts and focus on the rest of the storytelling, which is beautiful.
