Angel 3x9 Lullaby - Early Access & Full

Oh, boy... Literally! So many feelings in this one, unexpected moments and outcomes. I feel a mixture of hope and happiness and also sadness. It's not the outcome I wanted, but I'm still hopeful things will be okay. They HAVE to be....

I hope you had a lovely weekend πŸ’œ Mine was spent playing a few games (Contractville and working on my Minecraft world!) and I had a really yummy Chinese takeaway on Saturday night. I went for a swim on Sunday but it's still a little too cold with only just coming out of winter. I might wait a bit longer πŸ˜…

I was so skeptical when Darla showed up pregnant, impossible pregnancies are tropes I usually don’t like but it was such a fitting end for Darla after the Drusilla debacle. She died a good gal and I’m happy about it. I love Darla. It’s funny because to me she was ridiculous in Buffy season 1 and she ended up one of the greatest character of the Buffyverse EDIT: I think I even thought her more ridiculous than Wesley which is saying A LOT 🀣

Tidbits from the DVD commentary by Tim Minear (director & writer) and Mere Smith (writer) for this episode. Mere stated that when she wasn't writing scripts for the show she acted as script editor for all of the episodes to ensue continuity. After the writing staff outlined the story arc at the beginning of the season, one thing she had to do was make sure Darla always referred to the unborn baby as 'it' (even after the ultrasound) so they could have the scene in this episode when Darla finally calls the baby 'him'. When Lilah calls to have the hotel 'cleaned', she calls the person on the phone 'Harvey'. This was a reference to Harvey Keitel who had a small but famous role as a mob cleaner in the movie 'Point of No Return' (whose name in the movie was actually Victor.) Your question about how Wesley and Fred knew so much about giving birth was discussed in the commentary. Tim says some of the staff kidded him about how much he knew about childbirth that he could make Wes and Fred appear so knowledgeable. He said he 'looked it up'.

It wasn’t just that Darla would not care for him but that her body couldn’t birth him and they couldn’t do a C-section because the spell protecting him , so she staked herself so he could be born , it was a beautiful selfless act and an ending for such a great character
