Angel 3 x 6 Billy - Early Access & Full

Well, that's a YIKES and a half! I never thought I'd be so frightened of one of the Angel gang (other than Angelus, of course....) but here we are!

Really interesting, but CREEPY episode. I felt so apprehensive watching this, it must have pushed a few of my fear buttons, I think. Eek.

I hope you all have had a lovely week! I had a restful weekend, and started playing a new game called Cult of the Lamb which is actually really fun! I never thought I'd like a game that involves so many random dungeons, but the cuteness of it has won me over πŸ’œ

Angel 3 x 6 Billy - Early Access & Full

I really like that Lilah killed Billy. She's such an interesting character for me.... I feel a mixture of hope that she'll escape like Lindsay did, but she also feels "colder" if that makes sense...

WOW thank you for that info! That is so cool. I can't wait to finally google everything once I'm done!

I think Billy is one of the scariest monsters in the Buffyverse, because he's the most realistic. I like this episode for several reasons. Billy is one - I love when fiction tackles uncomfortable real-world topics and does it well. Plus the actor is amazing in the role. Another reason is Lilah being the one to kill him. She was made a victim. Her power was taken from her, but she got it back. I don't much like Angel being immune to Billy's touch - too much of a deus ex machina for me. But at least the final resolution is left to Lilah.

For the longest time, I thought Angel being immune to Billy's influence because he killed for pleasure instead of hate and anger to be a really odd writing choice, especially in an episode with a central theme of repressed inner darkness. But after rewatching the episode dozens of times, I think Angel might have been trying to say that he learned to control his hate and anger after years of struggling to resist the monster inside of him. He worded it very badly if that is the case, but I like that reasoning much more than my original interpretation. Also, I'm surprised inducing a primordial misogyny hasn't been used more in a horror setting because this episode proves that it can be really scary.

Alexis Denisof was born and raised in the US but went to college in London where he studied drama and picked up his accent there. There is a DVD commentary by the writers, Jeff Bell, and Tim Minear, of this episode. One of the things they mentioned was they contemplated more of Billy's backstory but didn't have time to include it in the show. Apparently his father, brother of the Congressman, visited one of the demon brothels we learned about in season 1, 'War Stories', and had a child, Billy obviously, with one of the lady demons. The interiors of the hotel shot during the Wesley/Fred chase scene were made in an abandoned hotel scheduled for demolition. They sometimes had to share the space with the LA Police SWAT teams who were practicing and drilling there, also. The usual interior scenes of the Hyperion Hotel are shot on a sound stage set at the studio.
