Doctor Who 5x2 - Early Access & Clean

Okay, so... I never expected to get emotional this early 🀣 I thought I was safe, darn it! Knowing what we know about the Doctor and his history, even though it's a new Doctor, just makes me feel so sad sometimes. What a lonely life he leads ☹️

A wonderful episode - lots to love here. The starwhale is glorious. And seeing a certain shop as a flashback to The Idiot's Lantern was really cool! What a nice touch, a nod to an older episode, a Doctor of the past. Love it πŸ’œ

OOOH yes, I think so too! It felt like a little nod to what we've seen in the previous seasons. It was really a nice surprise!!

"Nobody HUMAN has anything to say to me today!" He also has an edge. Smiths Doctor has been described as "An ancient soul in a young man's body."

The Dog Walker

Jules I think they threw in the Magpie reference as kind of bridge between the previous Doctor/companions and this one. It reminds us this is the same universe, the same earth the same history we've come to know. The Doctor may have new face but it's still OUR Doctor who is the same person with the same memories we know and have become comfortable with. We didn't lose a Doctor, we gained a Doctor Who is built on all the previous ones.

The Dog Whisperer

You're very special, the number of people who caught that first time around I can count on one hand.

The Dog Walker

This seasons based around childhood and fairytails matt smiths child like portrayal of the docter really makes this season very emotional at times

demonic-myst

Like you said, you usually wouldn't expect heaps from the 2nd episode of a season. But I agree this one's properly great. It makes me cry more every time. And when you already know the mystery, every hint at it throughout the episode becomes really emotional. Very much enjoying rewatching this season with you!

"child-like and warm" yessssss! That is what I'm getting from him too, so far. He just seems playful.... kind. I do like him!

Juliette Gaming

That makes a lot of sense! I think you're onto something for sure!

Juliette Gaming

It's my first time noticing, I think! DAMN. I was probably crying at the time, most likely 🀣🀣

Matt Smith very quickly became my favourite doctor., which is saying something considering I've been watching since number 3! He has an amazing ability to portray somebody who can appear human and alien and old and child-like and warm and cold and loving and angry and so many other contrasts all at the same time!

Aussie Mat

I think Amelia insisted on being called Amy when she got older as a way of putting distance between he Doctor influenced childhood that caused her pain and anguish, and her relatively Doctor free adulthood...you know...until the Doctor landed back in her garden 12 years later....but to him was only 5 minutes. The Tardis is always screwing up and I don't know why. Do they use it over and over as a plot device?

The Dog Walker

Amy viewed the program, knew the Doctor would never press the forget button and therefore put the entire spaceship and everyone on it in danger so she recorded the warning telling her to get the doctor off the ship before he finds out after viewing the vid and before hitting the forget button. The Doctor is upset because instead of telling him this she made the decision FOR the Doctor in secret and he can't have that in a companion ...and hope to continue saving human kind as well as other species. He always has to have all the information and facts to make correct decisions. Personally, I think he over reacted a bit since Amy is so green, but I think the showrunners wanted to impress on us that this Doctor is going to be more serious, more quirky and at times darker than the last 2 Doctors. It does work...

The Dog Walker

Haha yeah I found most of these on the forum pages I must confess.

OverWims

Apparently you have haunted even more WHO fan forums than me...heheh.

I absolutely adore this episode. When the Doctor told Amy she was going home after this, I think she was just his punching bag in that moment. He was disappointed with humanity as a whole, and she was the nearest human. What she did was significantly less than Liz 10 and the British Government did. I'm glad you are warming up to 11 and Amy so quickly, it really doesn't take long with those two lol.

SeeJay

OH, I see!! I thought it may have been "programmed" for people to just press the Forget button. That makes sense!

Juliette Gaming

That is so exciting to see Magpie Electricals still going strong 🀣 I love that nod to the past!! It would be cool to see more things like that - though I'm sure there's been many from Classic Who that I've not understood πŸ˜…

I love this episode. It sets up the type of relationship the Doctor and Amy will have (which is my favorite companion/Doctor relationship, although I prefer Donna and another future companion over Amy as characters). The resolution was quite masterful and emotional, and I just love all the setting. It could have been easily 2-parter.

The Magpie Electricals is just a nice easter egg for fans. It has been shown a number of times since The Idiot's Lantern. It was one of the results on the phone the Doctor used in The Runaway Bride when he soniced it and got a flash of websites etc that led him to Torchwood. Martha had a Magpie Electricals TV when the Master tried to blow them up. The Titanic had a Magpie Electricals microphone for the stage. Wilfred had a Magpie Electricals TV when he was in his newspaper stand whilst being visited by the Doctor and Astrid. There are a number of items on the current console that are apparently Magpie Electricals branded but I have yet to actually see proof of this (maybe they just never had the backs shown enough in shots or something).

OverWims

The first person I’ve seen to spot the magpie reference! I remember pointing it out to my parents when I was young and them not understanding what I was on about

George

Amy chose to forget. It seemed like she pressed it involuntarily because Amy forgot what she saw and hence we don't get to see it. The message she recorded that we saw after is proof that it was voluntary though.

Lime Pie

The crack is the same as the one in young Amy's wall...it's a Crack in the universe and apparently its everywhere. Weird...huh?

The Dog Walker

Liz 10 was in "Hotel Rwanda".

The Dog Walker

Amy earns her place in the tardis quite quickly
