Doctor Who The End of Time Part 2 - Early Access & Clean

Well.... we are here. I don't think any of us were ready for this episode, but it was so brilliantly done. Heartbreaking. Emotional.

Perfect.

I am so thankful that I was able to avoid spoilers for this episode so everything remained as a surprised and a huge shock to me. I'm very grateful to my two wonderful moderators on YouTube who delete all the spoilers (you'd be surprised how many people talk about future episodes) so we can all enjoy this how it should be enjoyed - without knowing what will happen.

Thank you to everyone for coming along on this wonderful adventure with me. It's one that I never thought would impact me so much, and it continues to take me by surprise each time 💜

Doctor Who The End of Time Part 2 - Early Access & Clean

Comments

Tennant will forever be my Doctor with none of the others coming close to my love for the 10th Doctor. I remember being 9 years old watching this episode when it came out and sobbing my eyes out when he regenerated so loudly to the point where my mum heard me and came into the room to comfort me lol!

Doccyy

I started watching Doctor Who when I was 13 but started with series 5 because the earlier ones weren't on Netflix back then. So Matt Smith was my first doctor. I thought he was marvellous. I watched all of his series and stopped at some point halfway 12 his series (simply because i forgot to watch further). Now last year when I was 19 I hadn't watched Doctor Who in ages and decided to rewatch it, this time from the start. So I finally got to experience Eccleston and Tennant, and let me tell you: Matt Smith may have been my first Doctor, but when I first saw 10's final episodes and regeneration into 11 I was devestated. I think it took me an entire series to get used to Matt Smith. Which is wild to think about, since I had already seen that series and he was such a familiar and nostalgic face to me. But I am serious when I say: it's going to get used to (it will probably take a while tbh), new companion, new doctor, but you are in for an amazing run from 11. And I am very thrilled to watch it with you on this channel! :) You are my favourite DW reactor out here, because of your empathy and lovely commentary. Love from Amsterdam <3

Kim

It's so cool how this two-parter is a send off to "all of Doctor Who so far." By that I mean everything since the show came back to the airwaves in 2005. The cast and crew went all out for the departure of their showrunner Russell Davies. With the 11th doctor, we get a brand new showrunner and his creative vision, along with the new lead cast.

RJ Byrd

He really did wrestle with the decision & even had a meeting with new showrunner Steven Moffat who gave him the opportunity & wanted him to stay on for one more season but in the end Tennant felt with RTD, Phil Collinson & Julie Gardner going it was the right time, he did very nearly change his mind after hearing the S5 pitch. Moffats plan btw was fairly simple & once you've watched S5 Ep1 I'll explain it. So stay tuned!

Jason

Just watched. Brilliant! Left my comment over on ye olde YouTube. Much love, Jules! <3

Randall Lilly

I have heard of it, but haven't listened to it. I've listened to lots of Doctor Who audios through Big Finish, and agree it's a great way to keep the characters "young." I'm thinking I'll listen to "reboot" once Juliette wraps up the Buffy series finale in a few months.

SeeJay

Thank you so much for making these videos! I look forward to them every week.. so I’m very pleased I subscribed and caught up to end of the season with you! Cried all the way through, just like I do every time I watch it!

Ben

Fair enough. Do you know about the recent parallel world audio "reboot" by Amber Benson? - if not, Jules, don't google it, there may be spoilers for the TV series in any descriptions. I haven't heard it yet but it sounds compelling. (and voice don't age so much sad faces...)

Oliver

Ooh yes, each one could have a different watcher. They could even be set in different cities to give each "reboot" and fresh look and feel. And to Olivers point, I agree that as a standalone series, Buffy is perfect the way it is. I was more just thinking in general, the mythos of the Slayer dying and a new one taking her place has parallels to Doctor Who. It would be a cool concept if they ever rebooted the show as a way to give it longevity.

SeeJay

🤣🤣🤣

Juliette Gaming

I really feel that he DIDN'T want to go 😭😭 it's so hard as I know he didn't want to do that forever but it is clear how much he ADORES being the Doctor. It would have been such a hard decision.

Juliette Gaming

I've never thought about that concept before, and it actually COULD work! It would make Buffy so very different to what we have now. We might even have new watchers all the time, too. It's such an interesting idea!

Juliette Gaming

His mother..... woah. I like that. Was she really there, though? I wish I knew more. It makes so much sense though.... The arc of regeneration is brutal. I remember feeling the same way with David Tennant. I think I'll be the same with all of them and it's so HARD to open your heart to someone new. It's very much like a break up!!

Juliette Gaming

I've actually been thinking of that line "Lived too long" since seeing the episode. It makes SO MUCH SENSE. I don't think the Tenth Doctor will ever stop breaking my heart. I just adore him so much.

Juliette Gaming

Oh my goodness.... I loved that song as a little girl. I watched a bit of the video but had to stop as I was feeling too emotional 😭😭 That is so amazing, though. I'll watch it properly soon, on a day when I'm not recording and ruin my face before I even start 🤣

Juliette Gaming

CALLBACK: As if the episode needed ANOTHER callback, the tune playing in the pub in which Captain Jack is drinking is the same tune sung by Tallulah in 'Daleks in Manhattan' (Season 3.)

Martin Holt

Apparently, David Tennant is an enormous fanboy for the Proclaimers. For the wrap party, everyone chipped in to create a little video treat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c6qENWh2jQ

Martin Holt

When I first watched this episode I felt exactly as you do, completely devastated at Tennant's departure, so much so that I could hardly focus on the Eleventh Doctor's first scene at the end. I am very excited for you to begin this next chapter of Doctor Who, though, I honestly believe you're going to love Matt Smith as the Doctor too! Super stoked to be able to join you on this journey through your reactions, a very big thank you! :)

ethan riley

To lighten the mood: if the Doctor has a Doctorate, and the Master has a Master's Degree, what does Captain Jack have? A Bachelor's. I'll see myself out.

Martin Holt

The ending makes me cry every time! Series 4 is my absolute favourite even still to this day! I was 9 years old when this originally aired. But don't worry, you will love 11

Brook Davis

I remember watching this when it aired with my best friend and both of us crying. "I don't want to go..." nobody wanted you to go, David! D':

x_Rhi_x

I see where you're coming from, but imo that would miss the (or rather one) point of Buffy. It's first and foremost a coming-of-age story. At least according to many statements by Whedon and I also think that works best. The story arcs of each season develop as Buffy does and although there are multiple other story and character arcs I think hers holds the series together as a whole. Another spin-off with your idea might have been a good thing but on the other hand would have needed a very long breath and a lot of money from TV-stations who were reluctant enough to produce what we already got.

Oliver

Finally, the next video is from the Dr. Who BBC Prom put on in 2010. If you watched the whole thing (which is available, but is not what the video below contains) now there would be quite a few spoilers, so don't do that! However, this video is an excerpt of the whole concert containing one song called "Vale Decem", which was mentioned above, and is the song that was played as the Doctor regenerated in this episode. It has one tiny tiny spoiler, i.e. there's a video showing on the screen at theRoyal Albert Hall showing David Tennant's regeneration, but it also contains a 1 second shot at the end of the video with Matt Smith's doctor poking his head out of the Tardis, which happens very early in the next episode (S5 E1). There's no context, so it's not really a spoiler, and you've probably seen that episode already by now. Finally at the end of the video, Matt Smith comes out on stage and the video ends. Anyway, the song is beautiful, and you get to see an amazing ContraTenor (a male who sings up near the soprano range) singing. Anyway, here's a link to that video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZ9n-4UOwaI

The next video that might be fun is rather long. The BBC puts on a 8 week series of music concerts, etc. every summer called "The BBC Proms", and every once in a while, they've had a concert featuring Dr. Who music. Parents bring their kids, and they have the symphony and choir that records the music that is on the Dr. Who episodes. They bring out a lot of Dr. Who "monsters" in full costume. The first one was done in 2008, just before the end of David Tennants run. It even has an "interactive" minisode that features David Tennant. Freeman Agyeman is the MC. You can watch the whole thing, or just jump around listening to the songs you prefer. It's great to see the actual singers and orchestra performing this music live: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJ6JpRctnrk

jsm

Thanks for a wonderful reaction to a great episode. This was a great sendoff for the 10th doctor. Now here are a few links to some fun videos that are now no longer spoilers. This was a great sendoff for the 10th doctor, now a video that has a fun sendoff for David Tennant. The video quality varies, because I think some of it was filmed with with peoples phones, but this was put together for the final cast party. It's not long, but it includes a lot of the crew and actors involved in the making of Doctor Who, and the 4th season in particular. The music is I'm Gonna Be (500 miles) by a two man group called The Proclaimers (you'll probably recognize the song). The Proclaimers are David Tennant's favorite band, and even they are in the video. Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2c6qENWh2jQ

I have so many things I want to write, but most people have said it already and I don't want to repeat. So instead I'll share this one thing that only occurred to me since I started watching your channel. I follow you watching Doctor Who, Buffy, and Angel (I will get to X-Files eventually). I was thinking recently, how cool would it be if Buffy The Vampire Slayer was just called "Vampire Slayer" and every few seasons they replaced the lead and maybe supporting cast, just like they do with Doctor Who. The show is already set up for that. We've already been introduced to a couple of alternate slayers over the course of the series, but think about it. The Doctor dies, and regenerates. The Slayer dies and a new one takes her place. It's perfect! It's already set up. A missed opportunity me thinks.

SeeJay

I see you recognise the arc of regeneration. Step 1: I don't want the current Doctor to go Step 2: Who's this new guy? Step 3: I don't like him Step 4: He's okay I guess Step 5: I love this guy Step 6: Repeat The main theory is the "woman" is the Doctor's mother. The song during ten's regeneration is called "vale decem" which is Welsh for "farewell ten". Right before he says "I don't wanna go" vale can be heard exactly ten times. They said farewell to ten ten times. Sorry for the extra tears. The eleventh doctor is an excellent Doctor. I think it'll take around 5 episodes for you to get used to him in the role.

OverWims

"Lived to long." I'm typing this with tears still drying on my face... this one gets me every time. Possibly the best piece of scripted television ever, this is absolute peak Doctor for me and shows just how amazing Tennant is. What follows is (no spoilers) imo the best Doctor inrtroduction in the entire series and you're really gonna love his new companion. Really enjoyed watching this along with you and looking forward to the roller coaster that is the 11th Doctor. Love and light.

The Rising Ape

Had to get the Patreon to watch this early, usually make a habit of tuning in at 8pm my time every week on Wednesday to watch your Doctor Who react videos as I've loved each one, but I had to get the last two episode special after watching your reaction to Water on Mars. So glad you enjoyed it, couldn't help but cry with you. Beautiful, poignant and brilliant crescendo to finish off this Doctor. David Tennant is and will forever be *my* Doctor. He's the one I grew up watching and I can't tell you how happy I am to know how much you've loved him and all of his friends along the way. The send off seeing every character was heart wrenching - Goodbye Sarah Jane! Goodbye Martha & Mickey (Married!?! I'm gonna pretend that never happened however, as much as I love these two characters), Goodbye Rose & Jacquie, Goodbye Sylvia and Wilf!! Goodbye Captain Jack. Goodbye Donna Noble, best friend of the Doctor. Goodbye as well to the mysterious woman... it has to be his Mother, surely! Has to be! It's goodbye for now as well to the old production team and for the legendary Russell T. Davies who was seemingly born to write and produce this show. He's a wonderful man, highly recommend looking at his other works - 'It's a Sin' especially but also 'Years and Years', 'Bob and Rose', 'Cucumber', all beautiful works. Out with the old, in with the new. It took me quite some time to warm to Matt Smith and sometimes the new head writer, Steven Moffats take on the Doctor. He has penned some truly lovely episodes though and there's quite a few with some shocks coming your way. I cannot wait to hear your thoughts. Stay safe, stay amazing and looking forward to seeing much more from you in the near future <3

Sam Duncan

Ah, You will LOVE 11th Doctor. The doctor isn't dead, he is the same guy with a different face!

Mert Sanli

Ah the episode we've all been waiting for! Such a beautiful and heart wrenching ending for 10, and as sad as it is, I wouldn't have it end any other way. The family of blood revisit gets me every time. I'm sure you've re-watched that ending through editing as you were (rightfully) distracted by the loss of 10, so I would be interested to hear your first impressions of that last little ending scene with 11, not that it gives too much insight but I would still love to hear your very early thoughts.

Geo

The actor who plays the 11th Doctor went to my university! He's a fantastic actor; now in House of the Dragon which is a huge show... Hope you enjoy his run, but he takes some time to get used to.

TheAlfanator

Thank you for letting us take the ride with ya! Can't wait to see your further reactions to the next series!

DConanology

We have some at last to the end of the 10th doctor. Honestly when I first saw this I took a break from Doctor Who. I didn't wanna watch the next doctor after David. But after some time I did go back and continue to watch. And found I loved Matt as the Doctor aswell. Also the next doctors after that. I gotta say the ood song that was sung at the end is so powerful. I love it so much still to this day. The line, "I don't want to go" is also so well done. Apparently they had multiple takes of that line. Trying to pick which way to say it. The one they chose made the moment that much better. The look in his eyes, you know he didn't wanna go... David Tennant as the Doctor was brilliant. His acting was so well done. Look forward to more awesome reactions in the weeks to come. <3

Larissa Reimer

I'm glad I'm not the only one to have made the Kleenex share prices skyrocket!

Chris Green

To be honest, 11 took me a while to get used to and respect as the doctor. But so did 10, and look how great turned out!

Paul Hess

I’ll have to say that with this I learned to stop comparing. Nobody could compare to Eccleston’s professionalism and acting in individual 1-on-1 scenes, but Tennant didn’t have to because he was an amazing ensemble actor (watch how he makes any chaotic multi-actor scene come alive). And I don’t have to worry that nobody will ever top Tennant’s “inhabiting” of the doctor role because each new season brings new and different firsts and bests. For instance IMHO Donna was the best companion exit (the Doctor’s Eulogy of her when talking to her Mom & Wilf is one of the best scenes ever). And each time I think I run out of possible bests a new season comes along with a new and different type of best. But I can’t talk about them yet …

Paul Hess

Ah, Jules. The look on your face when you heard Wilf knocking four times and you realised what it meant was heartbreaking. Don't cry too much - you need to save some tears for the next Doctor! There's plenty of opportunities ahead for more tears of sadness and of joy.

Aussie Mat

David Tennant and Katherine Tate are just so made for these roles, or maybe they sculpted the roles for themselves. This is especially powerful for me because Chris Eccleston (9th doctor) was one of the most amazing and talented actors I’ve ever experienced. But then along came David Tennant, some lightweight that I thought could never live up to Eccleston’s intensity, and instead Tennant made the role his own and basically inhabited the role of the doctor. With Eccleston it felt like a great actor acting like the doctor but with Tennant it felt like I was watching the doctor.

Paul Hess

It's a shame your so committed to your schedule, I've known a lot of reactors who have needed to "grieve" for a better word & distance themselves from the end of 10 into 11 because for us it was about 4 months inbetween so I kinda feel for you going straight into a new era (but thanks for our benefit)

Jason

The phrase "I don't want to go" will never feel the same way again after this episode.

Chris Janes

Onto a new doctor. New companions and new stories! Exciting times ahead

Jonathan Giles

Well............ This one always gets me lol. Such a great episode. Always loved the way all of the David Tennant companions got there own separate endings

Jonathan Giles

January 1st 2010 was a rough day because of this regeneration, its still so emotional even to this day Matt Smith is the name of the next doctor and you should warm to him quickly as well

Tobly

I completely agree. Series 4 was the one I rewatched the most when I was younger. Martha and Rose were both incredible but Donna felt like a perfect match for Ten.

Dragon

11 was my favourite growing up

Dave

I remember so well how I felt at the time. I so, so, so didn't like the change at the time. I'm so looking forward to your continued journey in the next series. :)

Patrick Armbruster

I was looking forward to this one, regeneration episodes are always a bummer (especially this one, the Donna/10th Doctor dynamic is peak honestly) but with the next two doctors, you're in for a ride. Can't wait to see your reaction to the next series !

Théo Munck

I don’t wanna go

Callum ledger

(Not to mention how well Tennant played that scene … to perfection)

Paul Hess

So amazing plot and writing. We were expecting a sinister and malicious four knocks heralding an evil presence, and instead ….

Paul Hess

Neil 💜 The Birthday (week) Boy! Or should I say old man 😜 Accepting the end of a Doctor and the beginning of a new one isn't easy. This is now my second time seeing a regeneration, and I always knew it would be hard to deal with as I adored David Tennant SO much. Him with Donna was just perfection... BUT I do need to try and put those feelings aside to accept a new pairing. It's like a breakup. We cannot compare to what once was 😅 Thank you, Neil 🥰 I hope your evening and following day is just as lovely as you!!

Juliette Gaming

Traveling through Norway. Not very sunny or warm but totally AWESOME. But I can’t believe it’s the same week as you hit this episode. Priorities! 😜

Paul Hess

I know it's rough, but Matt Smith is amazing too.

Keef Baker

I KNOW!! I'd NEVER have thought it would be WILF 😭😭😭😭 Never, EVER 😭😭😭

Juliette Gaming

PAUL! I'm envious about your vacation. Let's hope it's somewhere sunny and warm. I'm currently FREEZING and have been for weeks 🤣

Juliette Gaming

I think it will be so special to me, too. I can't explain why, but the Tenth Doctor and Donna just had so much impact on me. I adored their journey. This series 4 in particular feels like "home", in away. Just perfect.

Juliette Gaming

That is beautiful 💜

Juliette Gaming

As it was with you, this was also my first experience of 10/David Tennant and I have to agree with you about him being made for the role. He was simply perfect. I'm very much looking forward to seeing your reaction to both the new Doctor, and his inevitable companion. After seeing how much you loved the Tennant & Tate combination I really hope the new pair will, in your eyes, be up to the same standard. Time will tell of course. That was an amazing reaction to an amazing episode Juliette. Thanks for sharing and may you have a most wonderful day.

Neil Hanson

Your so amazing ☺️

Jamie Shepherd

Regeneration episodes are always rough! Listening to that music still makes me tear up. I think you’re really going to enjoy the 11th Doctor though! Can’t wait for next week!

Trey Moore

I don't think any of us saw the four knocks coming that way the theme playing incidentally is called "Four Knocks" by Murray Gold. When a Doctor goes I want to "feel" & this started a tradition of some serious feels 😭

Jason

OMG I’ve been so looking forward to this. But now I’m on vacation for 2 weeks, iPad only. I can’t imagine any way I can sync and watch this, but will I be able to have the will power to avoid the shortened version so I can watch this full length with you? I’m so glad you enjoyed this episode. I’ll say that even though I LOVED this episode, it does feel like the 10th doctor helped himself to maybe 3 or more endings overall.

Paul Hess

Still heartbreaking to this day. The Tenth and Ninth Doctor's eras are my personal favourite of the entire show so I'm so happy to see you enjoy it this much. Enjoyed all your reactions. Obviously still a lot of good stuff to come, but this era is particularly special to me.

Dragon

This still hurts me to this day!! The Ood song is called "Vale Decem" (roughly translates in Latin to "Farewell Ten") by Murray Gold & is heartbreaking. I met RTD in 2013 & asked him personally who the woman was & he told me it was whoever you want it to be however for him (& how he approached it as a writer) it is his mother. RTD looked me in the eyes & said "who else would you want to guide you at the end of your life?" He did tell me he loves everyone's theories & joked most were infinitely better than his!!
