Angel 1x22 To Shanshu in LA Full Reaction

Well, look at this! The Angel season finale! We've been watching Angel for about 6 months now. I know it is not a very long time, but that's 6 months. 6 months we've watched this together. 6 months of a journey we've been on. 6 months since I started. Sometimes it really does make me stop in my tracks when I think just how quickly things just... go. And then we have poor Angel, who's been alive for SO LONG. 6 months to him is an even shorter timeframe 🀣

A wonderful episode to finish the season with. Really loved the emotions in this one. Here's to season 2 of Angel and seeing where we go from there πŸ’œ

I really love this finale. It doesn't have a lot of setup, but still manages to check off most of the important boxes. I think season finales should be about growth, or highlighting how the characters have grown throughout the season. A good finale will highlight how the character is now different from the start of the season, good or bad. - We see how much Angel has grown to care about his friends, when at the start of the season he just wanted to be left alone. The moment Cordy & Wes are in danger, we (and I think also Angel) see that they are his connection to the world. - Angel gets some hope for the future, perhaps a longterm goal to strive for, of becoming human. - We see Cordelia coming out of unspeakable agony, and her first words are a wish to help others - not the Cordy from the start of the season. - Wes is perhaps less obvious, but I think the episode also shows he's come a long way from season 3 of Buffy. He's grown far more confident, but not the false confidence we see when he appears in Buffy, now there is some weight behind it. We've seen him fall off his high horse in Buffy, and in Angel we've seen him pick himself back up on his own merit. And on top of that we see a bit of a setup for season 2 with Darla. Really great finale and loved your reaction. Looking forward to next season :)

I would like to see something unexpected happen with Darla. They raised her with bad intentions, but wouldn't it be funny if somehow she got a soul and she decided that she'd rather just go and work at Angel Investigations and be best buds with Wes and Cordy and she and Angel got married 🀣 Have THAT Wolfram & Hart! Thank you, Neil πŸ₯°πŸ˜Έ

Darla is going to be an interesting one. We barely saw her on Buffy in current times, but I've enjoyed what I've seen of her in Angel's flashbacks. She's very beautiful and charming and she truly loved Angelus. I'm very curious to see what happens with her!!

I KNOW 🀣 I don't think I even liked him a tiny bit on Buffy! And now... My, how times have changed!

Ahh David, thank you πŸ₯°

Ahh thank you!! I do tend to waffle on a bit at the end haha

This episode is all about friendship, and it's absolutely beautiful. I love how Wesley and especially Cordelia are trying to find something that Angel wants, that connects him to life, when in fact it's Wesley and Cordelia themselves that connect him to life. What Angel truly wants and needs is his friends, as we can see in his reaction when they get hurt. Additionally, the emphasis on the word "family" shows how close they have become. When Angel gets asked at the hospital if he's family, he answers "yes" without hesitation, and of course at the end Cordelia states again that they're family. In spite of all the drama, this is actually a really wholesome season finale. :-)

I think Angel is more happy about having a destiny rather than receiving the reward for fulfilling that destiny. The Shanshu Prophecy is proof to Angel that he came back from hell for a reason. Also, I think Angel was happy to be human, even if he did ask to be a vampire again. Just like with the Gem of Amara, Angel sacrificed his happiness because he didn't think he had earned it yet (also the Oracles said it would save Buffy). Angel is probably more open to becoming human by preventing apocalypses and surviving plagues than by the regenerative properties of a Mohra demon he happened to kill in a sewer.

Great episode to end the first season! The disgusting maggot-face guy caused all sorts of trouble! Killing the Oracles, giving Cordy the touch of madness, and not only blowing up the office but also nearly killing Wesley in the process. And all this to bring Darla back into the world. Just what do they have planned for her I wonder? Angel was in no mood to play nice with Kate's misplaced anger towards him and, yeah, I feel sorry for her, but I'm glad he told her what's what. Lindsey made his choice to stick with Wolfram & Hart, and I've got to hand it to him, he fully committed to that choice. (pun fully intended) I've loved watching your reactions to this first season Juliette, and I can't wait to for you to see what's to come.

I love how you started off the reaction talking about how you enjoy certain characters that have crossed over onto Angel from Buffy, and then we get that ending with Darla. I think you are correct in your analysis that these characters are better on Angel than they were on Buffy, and I'm including Darla in that as well. This show has a great way of taking characters that originated on Buffy and really fleshing them out and giving them interesting arcs. My problem with this whole Shanshu prophecy is that... didn't it already technically happen? Remember in "I Will Remember You" Angel became human again, but after seeing that he wouldn't be able to protect people (or himself) in the same way he can as a vampire, he asked the Oracles to take it back. Now in this episode, Angel seems happy about the possibility of once again becoming human. I don't know, it just seems a little contradicting and like the writers are trying to rehash that story arc.

It was interesting seeing you get so upset at nearly losing Wesley considering how you felt about him last season lol. Season 2 with Darla sounds quite interesting, can't wait.

Juliette, there comes a time in every reactor's journey through the Buffy/Angel-verse when s/he has learned to roll with the punches and navigate the twists and turns of the show. The unexpected no longer befuddles but rather causes amazement and delight. Not only have you surpassed that moment, you have truly mastered it. Welcome.

Fun reaction! Enjoyed hearing your theories afterwards! Looking forward to your season 2 reactions!
