Buffy & Angel Watch Order
Added 2023-09-15 05:18:54 +0000 UTCHello π Firstly, I just want to say thank you to everyone who contributed their thoughts and input into what order I should watch Buffy and Angel in! I really appreciate all your feedback, opinions and advice.
I didn't realise it was such a heated topic for discussion, but now I do! I wanted to make a little video explaining what I am going to do, but in case you don't want to watch, here are some bullet points!
β¨ I'm going to try alternating episode watch order first, as this was suggested the most
β¨ This may change at any point if I feel it's not working for me, or for the majority of viewers
β¨ If watching Angel seems to provoke a lot of drama and stress for me, I may consider watching the rest by myself and just reacting to Buffy
β¨ I'd like to at least watch the first season, see how it goes, see if there's enough interest there to continue the rest (I hope so)
At the time of writing this, I have now watched the first Buffy and the first Angel episode, and I'm really enjoying both, so at least we now have some GOOD NEWS π₯°
Have a wonderful weekend and I'll be back tomorrow with a Buffy episode!

@x_Rhi_x I only through that out there because it was one of the poll options on another channel and it actually got votes. π

2023-09-16 22:10:24 +0000 UTCnice, been loving your buffy reactions and cant wait for you to start angel, another excellent show. i think most people make way to big a deal about the watch order. alternating works fine for the most part. I think the main disadvantage of alternating is when there are very big 2 parter episodes it can hurt the momentum to watch half a 2 parter then do the other show next but there are really only a few instances where that's a concern. i say just do what feels right. if you watch an episode of angel or buffy and feel like it would hurt the flow to switch shows for the next episode then don't, and if that kind of thing doesn't matter to you then happily wach the next show and ignore anyone who gives you grief.

2023-09-16 21:01:02 +0000 UTCI think everyone makes too big a deal over the watch lists. I always do my own watches the way they aired, it's how I saw them back then and how I prefer them. I've seen several reactors go with watch lists and I don't think it really adds anything, in fact sometimes it's annoying how long they stay on one show before finally getting back to the other when they are only doing one episode a week. That said however Juliette wants to do it is fine

2023-09-16 05:14:17 +0000 UTCI just rewatched all of Buffy and Angel with a friend that had never seen them. We watched all of Buffy then all of Angel because it would be too complicated for us on our weird schedules to keep up with a watch order. What I can say is if you watch Buffy first then Angel there will be minor spoilers and some things that occasionally you dont have the full story on. But when you watch Angel afterwards it's kind of cool to see how the gaps are filled. "Oh yeah I remember that!" However, I would never recommend watching Angel first because Angel has big spoilers for Buffy. If you did either of these though I bet a lot of people (not me) would be upset. Whatever you choose to do I'm here for it. Overall I like Buffy better than Angel but there are parts when Angel gets soooo good!

2023-09-15 20:55:36 +0000 UTCI will definitely stick it out for the first season and then more if people like it and there's not too much trouble π€ Honestly, even if I continue with Angel and just have one Buffy per week, a lot of other channels just do one reaction per week of a series, too. It should be okay... hopefully! As someone who loves Angel's character, I am excited to see where this story takes us π

2023-09-15 20:50:27 +0000 UTCThank you, Claudette π I love your name! Your words make a lot of sense to me and I appreciate them very much! It can be hard to do something, knowing I might upset people. As a people pleaser, it can be a bit difficult to deal with! I hope you have a wonderful weekend π€

2023-09-15 20:45:45 +0000 UTCI actually know of someone who's only seen Angel and not Buffy π Another idea to add into the mix is, would it maybe be worth thinking about watching all of Buffy first and then watching Angel afterwards? I might keep going with the first season and see if it's working out for me. If at any point, it does start to become messy with too many episodes not making sense, then I can always change π It is a very difficult thing to try and make a lot of people happy when we all like different things. I have the same sort of conflict on my gaming channel as well, where I try to play a variety of games and yet there will always be someone who wants something else. These channels are meant to be a fun little place to come to, for happiness (well, sometimes haha) and a bit of relaxation so if I can keep those similar vibes up when I'm watching, it really does help that! I never want to be in a place where I dread uploading or watching π₯Ή Thank you so much for your support π€

2023-09-15 20:37:32 +0000 UTCThank you so much, James! I appreciate that π I just want to relax (as much as you can when watching Buffy and Angel haha) and enjoy!

2023-09-15 20:37:14 +0000 UTCOooh okay! That sounds a bit messy but if it doesn't happen too often then I guess I'll just deal with it π€

2023-09-15 20:36:42 +0000 UTCI think for the first season, someone told me that it was aired alternating but then something went wrong with the studios and things were messed up from that kerfuffle.
Juliette Gaming
2023-09-15 20:36:07 +0000 UTCThank you so much! I will see how it goes in alternating to start with. I can always change if I find it doesn't make sense π€

2023-09-15 20:34:13 +0000 UTCWhatever causes you the least stress is the right choice. A stress-free reactor does a better reaction! You should only be stressed by the demons on the screen, not by the Patreon demons or the YouTube demons!
Alan Kobb
2023-09-15 18:40:29 +0000 UTCWahoo! Angel is definitely a different show than Buffy, but it is great in its own way. I'm glad you're enjoying it so far! Don't stress about watch order. As someone who originally watched the show in broadcast order, then later rewatched according to a guide a reactor was following, I can say for sure that you'll be able to follow along just fine no matter how you watch the show (I do prefer the guided order though if you want my honest opinion).

2023-09-15 18:07:29 +0000 UTCIsn't the air order basically alternating? Same thing
x_Rhi_x
2023-09-15 17:36:09 +0000 UTCAll this guide vs alternating talk, where's my original air order people? No studio execs on this channel? π
Nebraska
2023-09-15 14:19:36 +0000 UTCSomeone has probably warned you of this, but alternating order does result in some crossover spoilers, like you'll see a character crossover, then you'll see them leave for the crossover in a later episode in their origin series. That's the primary benefit of using the guide. Us first air watchers survived the spoilers, (they were usually heavily promoted anyway) so its not that big of a deal.

2023-09-15 13:43:20 +0000 UTCTrue. I could have worded it better.
Jonathan Hall
2023-09-15 13:20:15 +0000 UTCI understand, and I find it unnerving as well, obviously. I just don't want to silently cry inside when inevitably there'll be a "oh, if only I had watched the other episode first" moment, because "after all, it doesn't matter" comments by people who'll only care about Buffy eps, anyway. (Not saying that's you, specifically.)
Patrick Armbruster
2023-09-15 13:18:07 +0000 UTCDefinitely. I understand having an opinion about it. However, making a sweet reactor stressed to the point of not enjoying reacting is inexcusably wrong and makes me upset. Not saying you are doing that but somebody is. And personally I'd rather her be having a good time than stressing about some watch order to make some person happy.
Jonathan Hall
2023-09-15 13:11:23 +0000 UTCWhether it's minor or not certainly is in the eye of the beholder, but at least those that really do matter, _really_ do matter. And that's what I meant by it shouldn't just be ignored. But like I said: I get that when you watch Angel without the timely context of Buffy that some things go unnoticed completely, while you simply don't care about some others. But yeah, when you drive an offroader and rarely use the streets, "the roadsystem basically doesn't matter". ;)
Patrick Armbruster
2023-09-15 13:07:31 +0000 UTCThere's like 6 or 7 times it actually matters in the course of a more than a 100 episode show. And half of those are pretty minor. Hardly worth giving the poor lady real life stress over. That's why I said "basically" not "totally."
Jonathan Hall
2023-09-15 12:00:08 +0000 UTCPlease donβt stress about it. As much as we all want things to be the best they can be, itβs not the end of the world if itβs not to our individual liking. Itβs not like the shows become unwatchable or anything. If everyone here is genuinely interested in your reactions then Iβm sure theyβd agree they will continue to be better if youβre free from stress about it. Just do whatever works best for you.
James Hadden
2023-09-15 11:01:47 +0000 UTCYou're so right and so wrong at the same time. :) You're right: For the most part, it's a separate thing. And nobody gets all intense about getting the order right for some monster-of-the-week episode in whatever season. There are, however episodes, where there's a clear intention by the makers how it _should_ be perceived. (And depending on which country's TV station you watched back then, you might have gotten the correct order or not at all.) The people, like me, who prefer there to be a watch order, care about these things exactly, where some things in one show have consequences for the other. We obviously can't talk here about examples, because it would be spoilers. To me it's just highly ignorant to say "it doesn't matter βΒ period", because one can only say that if a) one doesn't know or b) doesn't care. In the first case, one shouldn't talk, in the second case, one shouldn't care to talk. The fact that you feel like your last sentence, to me sounds like you exactly didn't catch some of the details one _does_ catch when watching in an order that at least cares for the episodes that _do_ have a connection between the two shows.
Patrick Armbruster
2023-09-15 08:51:34 +0000 UTCI had no idea the watch order was controversial in the slightest, so I mostly ignored your last post on it. Now that I've gone back and read it, I would echo those saying it doesn't matter. Watch however you want. I usually watch all of Buffy, then all of Angel. As others have said, Angel takes time to get good, and is less consistent, but it does have some absolute classic episodes. But I'll watch however you decide to do it π
Neil Bullock
2023-09-15 07:28:52 +0000 UTCThe cat just wanted attention :-) I want to echo what many others have said: you do what works best for you, and the majority of us will enjoy whatever you do. As you may know by now, I'm not a fan of Angel the character, and this somewhat extends to Angel the show. But even with that I still think it's a very good show and certainly worth watching - in whatever order you like. And I will be here, watching along.
zerofk
2023-09-15 07:22:38 +0000 UTCEither way doesn't matter to me. It sounds like people are making a big deal about nothing. The 2 shows are basically their own thing. I watched all of Buffy before I started Angel. I don't feel like that deprived me in any way.
Jonathan Hall
2023-09-15 06:23:59 +0000 UTCI sincerely hope your watching ANGEL doesn't provoke drama or stress. I will say... and trying to be careful about how I say it, in terms of either avoiding spoilers or poisoning your perceptions... I recommend you give ANGEL at least the whole first season before passing judgment on it. Just one person's view here, but I will caution you that I don't think that series finds its footing nearly as smoothly or as quickly as BUFFY did. But once it does, it produces some absolute gems, I feel.

2023-09-15 06:09:56 +0000 UTCI've been wondering and waiting and hoping you would watch Angel as soon as it became clear you were loving Buffy. So I'm very excited to go along on this adventure with you in whatever format you choose. I think people will still enjoy your reaction whichever way you go because it's you that your viewers want to see. Otherwise we could just go off and watch it by ourselves., lol Your viewers came to see YOU. You are the star, Jules. So please don't sweat the small stuff. People are more adaptive than they like to let on and however you proceed will be fine with like 99% of us. I promise. Wishing you a warm and cozy night-

2023-09-15 05:26:31 +0000 UTCI'm new around here, but just wanted to say I'm excited to see all the Buffy/Angel stuff you do, whatever order you do. I'm still catching up on the Buffy eps, but I love them very very much.
