Doctor Who 2x02 Tooth and Claw | Full Reaction

I really liked this one and I think we now know what the catch phrase for Season 2 might be... I wonder if there are repeated phrases every season to look out for?

The special effects in this episode were REALLY impressive. It reminded me of a Buffy episode, but usually with Buffy, it's someone in an outfit (and that's why we love it!!). It was really cool to see a concept that I'd be used to seeing in Buffy, and seeing how they dealt with it here in Who. Excellent episode and getting to learn more about our new doctor. He gives me crazy professor sort of vibes... I like him a lot 💜

Haha I'd love to see both of these comments! 😂

You can tell the show really hit its stride in season 2. The chemistry between Billie and David is just so fun 😂 the running “we are not amused” bet was amazing. I wonder if the Doctor ended up forking over that 10 quid lol. I also appreciate that they had Rose take charge and break herself out of prison before the Doctor even got there. It shows a nice progression from season 1 where Rose was needing to be saved a lot of the time. Especially in the early episodes. Overall really fun episode and I’m like super excited for you to watch the next one. Like super super excited.

The Doctor is so powerful he can exceed the plot continuity barrier.

Martin Holt

Lore, canon and continuity are not DW's strength.

The Dog Whisperer

Captain Jack meets Spike. Oh my.

A Buffy & Doctor Who crossover sounds fun. Can you imagine the Tardis landing in Sunnydale, with the Doctor and Rose chasing after a werewolf, or an Inca Mummy Girl?

The Tenth Doctor had a wide variety of suits - at least four brown suits and six blue suits. One might have noticed that in 'New Earth,' his suit was brown, but in this episode, it was blue pinstripe. Rule#1: Brown suits indicate he's traveling to the future. Blue suits indicate he's traveling to the past. Rule#2: Rule#1 is not always true. Because the Doctor says so. It's a Doctor Who thing. Rules are solid except when they're not.

When they mentioned wolves and you mentioned Rose's connection with a sort of wolf - a Bad Wolf - all I could think was... 'Damn! Juliette is REALLY getting good at this!' Cheers. :-)

Fufby 😂 I'd watch that 🤣

SeeJay

I love that. It's SO clever. If they did that for Buffy, maybe they could call it Fufby or Yuffb 🤣

Juliette Gaming

Me? No. I never had a boyfriend in high school!

Juliette Gaming

I'm guessing most of the boys had a crush on you. ..

You don't say?

So last week Billie getting a chance to speak in an accent more aligned to her own, and now this week the Doctor getting to use his natural accent. I thought that's quite funny these episodes would be side by side. So fun (non-spoilery) fact about the name Torchwood. When it was decided Doctor Who was coming back in 2005, naturally they were worried about leaks. I mean imagine if they announced a reboot of Buffy, the extent to which people would try to leak information about the show for money. So in an effort to keep everything about the show a secret, Russel T Davies (show runner) took the letters D.O.C.T.O.R.W.H.O. and rearranged them into an anagram that spelled Torchwood. They put this on anything and everything related to Doctor Who production so that to anyone not in the know, who intercepted an email, or file, would assume it was some random TV show they'd never heard of, and ignore it. Davies ended up liking the name Torchwood so much he decided to bring it into the show itself.

Aye carumba! Did I do that? I'll be back! Maybe not just British hehe

Juliette Gaming

I was wondering if that was his real accent as I had heard he is Scottish! That's awesome hehe

Juliette Gaming

Awww yay! Thank you! I hope you enjoy. I love the Scottish accent hehe I remember there was a boy in high school who I had a huge crush on and he was Scottish 🤣

Juliette Gaming

I think a lot of shows/movies use that technique! It works well!

Juliette Gaming

When filming the scenes with the werewolf, the actors were actually responding to a greenscreen-costumed stuntman with an extended head piece. This made their reactions much more realistic than just acting towards blank space.

Martin Holt

TORCHWOOD is an anagram for DOCTOR WHO. And that is all.

Martin Holt

Every Doctor has a catchphrase...I think it's a british thing...

Fun fact #4 - Reading glasses. The Doctor popping on the reading specs in the library is a little nod to Tennant’s favorite Classic Doctor - Peter Davison, the 5th Doctor - who, at 29, was the youngest actor to be given the role. Davison had blonde boyish good looks, and he would occasionally pull out the glasses and pop them on to make himself look a bit more grown up and intellectual.

I for one really like this episode. It has almost everything - from the sheer silliness of the “kung-fu monks” at the start, to the body horror of the werewolf transformation, and having a historical character like Queen Victoria dress the Doctor and Rose down for their flippancy (and well deserved, considering all the deaths and mayhem). You can tell they’ve had a budget boost when you compare the CGI of the werewolf to that of the time reapers in Fathers Day. Now some fun facts about this episode: #1 - Accent. When the Doctor puts on a Scottish accent at the start, Tennant is in fact just using his normal accent (he’s Scottish, if you didn’t know). He said it was actually quite difficult NOT to use the fake English accent when playing the Doctor, as he’d trained himself to put that on when in the role. #2 - Alias. The name the Doctor normally gives when trying to pass off as human is John Smith (this started back with the 3rd Doctor, I think), but that’s not very Scottish. There’s no real equivalent common nom de plume in Scotland, so Tennant suggested James McCrimmon, which is the name of a well loved companion of the 2nd Doctor. Jamie McCrimmon was a Scottish highlander from the time of the Jacobite Rebellion, and along with being very brave and loyal, he and the Doctor were a great comedic duo. He was with Patrick Troughton’s Doctor for almost the entirety of his run. #3 - Queen Victoria. The actress playing Queen Vic is Pauline Collins, who has actually been in Doctor Who before, nearly 40 years before this was filmed, in a 2nd Doctor story called The Faceless Ones in 1967. The BBC offered her the role of companion, alongside Jamie McCrimmon (played by Frazer Hines - it was common in the 60s for there to be 2 or 3 companions in DW), but she turned it down due to other stage commitments. So nice to see her back on the show after all those years.

I refreshed your page not 5 minutes ago to see if you had uploaded this... and now you have! Maybe I'm a bit psychic! I adore this episode - being Scottish, I feel so represented lol
