Doctor Who 1x13 The Parting of the Ways | Full Reaction

I'm going to miss this doctor so much. He was my first introduction to this amazing and fantastic show, and I'll never forget him. What a beautiful world he showed us... But I know it's only just getting started 💜

Edit: I will be watching minisodes and christmas specials! The minisode is only tiny, so I will upload that one here soon before the christmas special on the regular Doctor Who day 😸

Doctor Who 1x13 The Parting of the Ways | Full Reaction

Comments

White I'd wish to see more of eccleston, I think it worked out extreme well because it gave new viewers a sort of trial-season, basically "this is The doctor, he's gone through a lot, this is his arch-enemies, this is how regeneration works".

For anyone here who is a long time Dr. Who fan, and who enjoyed the 50th anniversary show, I **HIGHLY** recommend a fan made reimagined version of one of the famous scenes from that episode. To avoid anyone getting unintentionally spoiled I won't provide a link or even the title of the clip, but go search on youtube for the account called "The Confession Dial" and their video that include the word "Stands" in the title. (the one with 1.9M views). If you reply to this post, please avoid any spoilers you can leave them on the video's comment stream instead.

Funny, that. The closest a Doctor has come to being evil, IMHO, is the sixth Doctor, played by Colin Baker. He wasn't evil per se, just kind of psychotic. He was not terribly popular (in fact left the show with a bit of a tantrum) and in fact was a contributing factor in the declining popularity of the show in the mid 80's.

Martin Holt

But Juliette, if you hold back the tears they will build up, and when they eventually burst free you'll have a flood on your hands! 😂

Neil Hanson

Oh. David is a fantastic actor. He was in one of the Harry Potter movies if you have seen them. Once you are finished with his tenure, I'll have some recommendations for you to check out for your own pleasure.

Daryl

It's fascinating that they can retain their memories and yet they can be completely new with a different personality... It's kind of scary if they have a companion at the time and they regenerate and then the companion doesn't like them.... Hmmm! What if they turn evil 🤣

Juliette Gaming

I love that you think so highly of Christopher. He's incredible, isn't he! I'm so glad he was the first actor to star in New Who as he was just perfect 💜

Juliette Gaming

It was very dramatic, Neil 🤣 Look, I am getting tired of crying with these games and tv shows! I finished Modern Warfare 3 and the credits rolled and I felt the tears but I said NO!!! And I refused to cry! TAKE THAT, EMOTIONS!!

Juliette Gaming

I feel that knowing they are the same doctor and have the same memories, just with a different face, helps me SO much to accept the new doctor. I think it's kinda cool that their personality may change slightly with each regen, but I wouldn't like to go from, say, the 10th doctor to the 11th doctor, and have the 11th doctor be SO different that it would be jarring!

Juliette Gaming

I know very little of David but I do remember seeing him on Top Gear many years ago!! He seems lovely... and I like his hair hehe

Juliette Gaming

Christopher was just marvellous... I'll never forget this first season with him! He did a wonderful job, with so much passion and energy. What an incredible man!!

Juliette Gaming

I know this feeling! It is so strange to have to get used to someone new... But I guess it's the way it's been since the classic series. I do love that it's the same doctor... just... a lil different 🥹

Juliette Gaming

For anyone new and following along, Chris Eccleston was the ninth doctor.

Paul Hess

Everyone has a Doctor. Tom Baker is my Doctor.

Martin Holt

The fourth doctor, Tom Baker, as he himself put it, was the definite article.

Paul Hess

Regeneration changes the body and how the mind operates to a certain degree, most Timelords will remain good or bad generally speaking but this can be taken to extremes. The First Doctor was awfully grumpy but endearingly charming, the second Doctor just enjoyed himself and played the fool to lull people into a false sense of security (Enemy people) Three is dashing, swashbuckling etc, Four was a Bohemian care free wanderer with a temper when it matters (Like most of them) Five was the nice, likeable Chap, Six was Arrogant and quite harsh, except when he was just The Doctor :) Seven a Wise Clown... I think that sums him up. The Comanions always have the kind of reaction you're having, Eg The Power of the Daleks had the Second Doctor just regenerated right in front of Polly and Ben, yet they take some convincing that it's him, and I love how fast Polly decides it really is him <3 I think the least fanfare around Companions taking it well was the 4th's debut story, but he had UNIT around who took it in their stride, being used to it by then. The Brigadier even says "Well, here we go again". (Oh, Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge Stewart of UNIT is one of, if not arguably the Doctor's best friend and most of the classic Doctors have met him <3

My little Blu-Ray player (Yaeonku Model BD015) syncs pretty well, as long as I don't skip around. But I can't use the packed-in PowerDVD program, because it's sh#t.

Martin Holt

The transition from Doctor to Doctor (known as 'Regeneration) was brought into the series after the first Doctor, William Hartnell, developed severe health problems and the series needed a replacement. His successor was the great British comic actor, Patrick Troughton. You'll get used to it. But it always hurts.

Martin Holt

"Scared and Sad, but Excited.' Yup. You're a Whovian, all right. :-)

Martin Holt

Juliette thanks for sharing your reaction with us. This was a powerful episode. Take it from a person who thinks Chris Eccleston is the best actor to ever play Doctor Who (“absolutely fantastic”, as he might have said). Things will be fine. As others have said give it 3 or 4 episodes to fall in love with David Tennant as the Doctor and you won’t regret it. Believe it or not many of the best Doctor Who episodes are still ahead of you, some even pretty soon. And before long even a curmudgeon like me stops looking at everything through an Eccleston lense to admit that Tennant totally inhabits the part of the doctor and in many ways “is” the doctor.

Paul Hess

Such a great episode! We finally got the see what all the 'Bad Wolf' business was about, and it turned out to be Rose all along! Sad to see the end of this Doctor, as he's been awesome, but now I'm very intrigued to see what this new Doctor will bring. Also, what will happen to Captain Jack now? Many tears from you during this episode Juliette, I hope you rehydrated afterwards!

Neil Hanson

Yes. I think one of the amazing things about this show is how they are all their own person with different personalities, tastes, traits, et cetera, but The Doctor retains memories and core values. Somehow it never feels like it isn't The Doctor, but everyone ends up having "their" doctor. David Tennant is the 10th Doctor. "My" Doctor is the 12th, but the difference between my love for 9, 10, 11, and 12 is thin as a hair. They are all The Doctor! Side note, Tennant plays the villain in Jessica Jones, and he is terrifying and creepy. He is such a good actor, maybe the best out of all the Doctors.

Leenis

I'm worried because you kept talking about how you are comforted by them having the same personality after regeneration. They have the same memories, but each Doctor has a new personality. But you need not worry, because you will love each and every one. :)

I managed to find a plugin for my browser that lets me adjust playback speed pretty precisely. For anyone else who wants to adjust, if you're watching on hbo, I set the playback speed to 1.05 and that seemed to keep it pretty close to synced. Just minor adjustments :)

TGrimace

Me too. The Iplayer version would be the original. Much like the DVDs and the Streaming service Stan. Both HBO and a upscaled Blu-ray will be of a different frame rate.

Daryl

Awww no, I'm so sorry to hear that! I have been using Stan for a while now, as I was having a lot of problems with the DVD player. I don't know why it's so different across streaming services AND dvd! So frustrating!! 😥

Juliette Gaming

NO WAY! That is amazing.... I love that 😱😱

Juliette Gaming

I can't remember, but most likely the comments as I knew he only had one season 😥

Juliette Gaming

Your first Who finale, your first regeneration. Missing the previous Doctor and learning to accept the next one is part of all our whovian journeys. David is a real tour de force of British television. He wasn't exactly a total unknown when he took over the role. But then neither was Christopher. But for David, being The Doctor, definitely further showcased his talents. He is both a lover of the stage and a childhood fan of Doctor Who. So he brings both a deep affection and a number of amazingingly theatrical performances to the role. As well as a charm, witt, and the right kind of irreverence that helps Who to feel like the accessible time travelling jaunt we all love. I have no doubt you will have fallen for him in no time. We all have our first. Mine was 5, but I was very young. Actually, David and 5 have a real world connection. But we will learn that a later time.

Daryl

Yeah I use iplayer and the sync was completely fine for me

Doccyy

Mine was completely fine on BBC iPlayer

I have a picture on my hard drive showing a road sign that reads ROSE DRIVE. On the pavement below, someone had spray painted BAD WOLF.

There’s not a DW fan alive that doesn’t wish Christopher Eccleston had a longer run as the Doctor. He did so much to embody the spirit of the character, and really ensured the revival of the show was a success. Unfortunately there were some behind the scenes issues, whereby he had disputes with some of the production team, and decided to leave at the end of series 1. But he gave it his all and showed how great the show can be. As to the idea of regeneration, way back in 1966 when the show had been running for 3 years, the original Doctor, William Hartnell, was of declining health and finding it difficult to remember his lines, and really couldn’t continue. However the show had become so popular that the BBC didn’t want to cancel it. So they came up with the idea that when the Doctor dies his body regenerates into a new form. That way they had an in universe reason for how the Doctor could be played by someone else. 60 years later and the show is still going partly because of that unique plot device. Every Doctor is different, and yet every Doctor is the same. There are some personality differences (each actor brings their own style to the role), yet the heart and soul of the character remains the same. While it’s always sad to see a Doctor go, I also am always excited to see what the new one will bring to the show.

Lloyd B

Oh no. The sync-ing is way off on this one. Did you have to go back to the streaming service Stan for this one? The reaction video gets several seconds ahead of my video every minute. I tried on both HBO and on my bluray copy of the season, and both get out of sync within seconds. It's nearly impossible to watch :( I was sooooo looking forward to this episode's reaction.

TGrimace

Your first roller coaster of emotions that is called regeneration 🎉🥳😭😭 when I first watched it in 2005 I had no idea what is a regeneration and I wouldn’t watch the show for a year because I hated the fact the my doctor was gone I was like I hate this stupid new look who he think he is? he is so young and full of hair he is not the doctor. Oh boy how wrong was I, but I won’t spoil anything further Really enjoyed this reaction and can’t wait for things ahead

Doctorwhoinfinity (Dor Cohen)

Great! Also it sucks that you already knew that this was Christopher's last episode. Had a commenter spoiled it for you or had you just learned about that elsewhere?

Doccyy

You said you were so nervous at the start and I blurted out “me too girl” … I’ve seen this episode about 100 times since I was a kid. Yet I’m still nervous 😂😂 here we goooooo

NNC

Yes, absolutely! I've written about that before but should have written about it again here in the blurb. I'll go and do that now 💜

Juliette Gaming

Heads up before you watch the Christmas Special you should react to the 8 minute mini episode titled 'Born Again', It picks up right where this episode ended and leads directly into the Christmas Special. You can easily find the full thing on Youtube by just searching "Born Again Doctor Who"
