Doctor Who 1x02 The End Of The World | Full Reaction

A little update about future scheduled days for Doctor Who... I'd like to have them uploaded here on a Thursday, one week ahead of the YouTube videos. This will fall into place, hopefully, over the next few weeks as I try to catch up with watching and editing. At the time of writing this, I've watched just three episodes and haven't edited the third, so there is a bit of work for me to do to juggle things around and get it how I'd like it to be. Until I am ahead, they will continue to be uploaded on this day. I hope that makes sense! Thank you to everyone for your patience and for your love and support. I feel fully welcome into this new magical world and I'm excited to see where this takes us 💜

This episode was a bit more serious than the last one, with the subject matter bringing tears to my eyes. Our planet's death is something that I'm sure we all have thought about, and although I don't think any of us will live to see it, it's still a very sad topic. I thought Rose was very brave in this episode. She held it together when everything was falling apart, and she managed to make amends with our Doctor when she pushed him too far. I love that we got to learn more about our Doctor's history (for me, a lot of it is new) and to learn that his story is a sad one... well, he's doing an incredible job with managing his emotions and keeping upbeat. Of course, some people can hide their sadness very well so I just hope he is okay, emotionally.

I hope you enjoy this episode! Lots of very interesting aliens in this one and I think it's just a taste of what is to come 🤗

I am glad to hear it does a FANTASTIC job of explaining as we go along 😜 I think I will just sit back and watch and learn as if I am Rose herself! We can all learn about the Doctor alongside Rose, which is actually such a lovely thing. I can't wait for more and in fact, I'm going to watch some more now hehe

Thank you so much, Martin!! I really appreciate you being here. It helps me SO much to know that you like what I'm doing enough to be here, truly 💜

Juliette Gaming

As for the classic series - don't sweat it. The reboot does a great - dare I say FANTASTIC - job of introducing the material and making sure everyone is on the same page. The only drawback is that knowing the history of the Doctor's enemies adds a little flavor to the stew - for example, in ROSE, the Nestene Consciousness was one of the earliest enemies of the Doctor, known in the original series as the Autons. Otherwise, not a problem. Just sit back and enjoy the trip!

I have joined as a patron specifically because of this show. You are in for one wild ride. :)

I have so many questions 🤣 I would LOVE to see him travel back in time to see his family, but would that mean there would be two of them? It's so confusing 🥹

Juliette Gaming

"can he not go back in time to his planet?" hehe...your questions will be answered in time! :) glad you're continuing to love the show!

Indeed lol

Note, the blue Steward didn’t know the Doctor - it was just that the psychic paper appeared to him as a legitimate pass, so he let him stay.

Great reaction. As others have said, there’s no need to go back to the Classic series. Just let the show reveal things as you go along. Otherwise you’re likely to be spoiled if you dig into researching the show too much. There may come a point when there could be a benefit from watching some of the earlier Doctor Who, but that’s not for several seasons yet, and I’m sure the community here will nudge you in the right direction when that comes. For now, just enjoy the ride and have your questions answered organically by the show at its own pace. This episode was crafted by the show runner to be as alien as possible - this all the different diverse species showing up. It also demonstrates just how ruthless the Doctor can be when he lets Cassandra dry out and burst. At one level he has extraordinary empathy for all life, but if you fail to take the opportunity to redeem yourself he can be brutal. Remember in episode one he wanted to first give the Nestine a chance before using the anti-plastic?

Lloyd B

Nice to see a familiar face, Colin!

Yeah, it might just be safer to not do any reading. I just felt bad as I had no idea about the war or what happened to our Doctor. He looked so sad and seems to have such a sad story, and I know so little about it 😭 I'm glad to know that we learn as we go along!

Juliette Gaming

Sometimes I may inadvertently say the wrong term when it comes to reboot/remake. It's similar in the gaming world as well as remake and remaster are two different things. I think most people may use the wrong word unintentionally, with no malice intended. Sometimes it gets confusing!

Juliette Gaming

AHHHH! Thank you, Steve! I wasn't sure if I was missing crucial backstory with not knowing about the war. That makes me feel a lot better! I will just learn as I go 💜

Juliette Gaming

Thank you!! I think I'll just happily continue on and learn as I go from the good doctor and Rose 💜

Juliette Gaming

Sure. In my experience I’ve heard Reboot and Remake used interchangeably, while Revival is used to more clearly delineate what the show is. Semantics aside, I’m happy you agree with my larger point.

Steve Combs

I am recomending that you don't do any reading up on The Doctor as you would open the floodgates, as I said about Rose there are call backs like The Tardis, and the shop window dummies. The dummies are an old enemy from the classic series, that are a hook for people like me to get a familiar enemy to help to reconnect with the show. But you didn't need memories of previous encounters to understand what was going on, the show gave you all the context you needed to understand what the Nestine were up to. It is a balancing act that the show got right. just one more thing, when The Doctor said that his people were wiped out after losing the war, I said "War, what war"

Colin 3of5

I agree with everything you said Steve. Bar one distinction. Reboot and revival are essentially the same thing by definition. I've said much the same as you a number of times before, as reboot has somehow gotten the connotation of 'remake'. If you think about it, the reboot of a computer isn't necessarily a factory reset. So we can say NuWho is a reboot and not mean that it invalidates the narrative and contextual relevance of Classic Who. The point of your comment is still hugely important as watching a significant amount of Classic, at this stage, would more than likely impact our enjoyment of Juliette's reactions to NuWho.

Daryl

This series isn’t a *reboot* per se. Its more like a revival, as in it *continues* the Classic Series, but it doesn’t require you to have known or watched the series at all. Basically, don’t worry about the Classic series unless you want to, the show will give you all the context needed to understand something. I wouldn’t recommend you reading up on the Classic stuff. 1) It doesn’t actually mention the War, because the War is an invention of *this* show, and 2) you might encounter inadvertent spoilers for this show. The revival will feed you all you *need* to know, and if you want to know more, then maybe you take that risk.

Steve Combs

Yeah, and if you have an interest in watching it, you *can.* But its not necessary.

Steve Combs

Don't worry about any of the past series, they'll fill you in on what you need to know all in good time.
