Buffy - Inca Mummy Girl S2 E4 - Full Reaction

Oh My GOODNESS this episode made me cry with happiness 🤣💜😭 Willow and Oz are SO adorable and I am beyond thrilled that someone, finally, has noticed her! She deserves to be noticed and I cannot wait to see their relationship (HOPEFULLY!) progress!

I'm keeping up well with the Buffy edits so this one comes to you a little quicker 🥰

Buffy - Inca Mummy Girl S2 E4 - Full Reaction

Comments

That is so true about vampires! We definitely don't have much sympathy for them as the demon that took over is generally not a very nice person 🤭 Ampata killed people to survive as well but at least she was a little more kind haha. If only vampires could learn from her 😜

THAT PHOTO!! I would never have recognised either of them 🤣 That is so incredibly cute, Neil! Thank you so much for showing me! I feel a lot of people know Seth Green and I'm over here never having seen him before... I have a bit of catching up to do with movies and TV, I think! Xander has such bad luck when it comes to women and dating! I think one day he will actually have a human girlfriend, but that might be a while coming 🤭 OR maybe he takes note of Buffy and he goes for a kind vampire lady instead! They could even double date hahaha

Loved your reaction to the episode. It was very easy to have empathy for Ampata, a 16 year old girl sacrificed for her people's beliefs. She wanted to live but at the cost of other innocent lives. It's interesting that Vampires also mostly were killed against their will but we don't feel empathy for them trying to survive since they now take pleasure in living by feeding off others.

I loved your reaction when you realised the guitar player was into Willow. It's long overdue for someone to notice how amazing she is, I mean, how could you look at Eskimo Willow and and not be completely enamoured with her! Alyson Hannigan and Seth Green (Willow and Guitar Boy) were actually in a movie together years before Buffy, in 1988, called 'My Stepmother is an Alien'. (If you want to see a cute photo of them together in the movie - https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0095687/mediaviewer/rm3805270273) Ampata, or to be more precise the Inca Princess that killed exchange student Ampata Gutierrez, made for an interesting bad guy for sure. Not just your typical 'I like killing people because I'm evil' bad guy, but one we can feel very sympathetic toward. Like you said she definitely cared for Xander, but when it came down to a choice between herself or Xander, she chose herself. And honestly, who could blame her for that? And now Xander can add 'Life Sucking Mummy' to his list of failed romantic interests, along with 'Giant Preying Mantis' of course. You have to wonder who, or what, the next entry on the list will be.

I am so glad that others felt bad for Empata as well! Her life was so similar to Buffy's and very sad. It was easy to feel sorry for her, despite what she was doing... 😔

It was the most precious thing ever!

This is one of those episodes that I feel like I don't give enough credit too. Like, if you asked me about it or I was just looking for one to watch I'd give the standard "MoTW, it's fine or even good but it doesn't thrill me" then I watch it and I'm always really really glad I did. The "sympathetic villain" in Empata is really good. She and the storyline do a very good job of doing pulling you in two directions at once, like you pointed out. The parallels between her and Buffy are well done, little things like the line about protecting the people from the underworld is exactly what Buffy does, of course, but kinda two different contexts for "underworld." Its just really well done in that their stories are similar enough that we get the parallel but different enough to be interesting. If we feel bad about Buffy's situation then I think we really should feel bad about Empata's also. Like Xander pointed out Buffy was willing to die for what was right, Empata just wasn't quite that strong🙁

Loved your reaction when Oz noticed Willow.

Negative

"Hey you're from South America, you must know all about Incan iconography." Some of the things in this episode are a bit unfortunate, but overall I really like it. Poor Ampata (for lack of a better name). Her guard brings up an interesting point: "the people you kill now, they are innocent." So the question is: how far are you willing to go for self-preservation, for a chance at life? I don't blame her for choosing herself. Most people would. Even Buffy did, for a while, in Prophecy Girl.

I dunno after being in IT for (mumbles) years and having to deal with end users.... the outward personality has certainly changed. 😜

I think Willow beautiful, fun, quirky and so smart. I am honestly over the moon that someone finally sees her potential! I soooo hope something develops between these two. They are so cute I can't stand it 🤣🥰 And yes, looks fade! Your personality and heart still remains so that definitely needs to come first as the priority. I think a lot of people end up realising this as they grow up 💜

I really enjoyed this one and I am SO glad to know I'm not the only one that felt bad for the mummy girl. Her life sounds so similar to Buffy's and it was hard not to feel bad for both of them in this one. I'm so glad you enjoyed, thank you so much for watching it with me 🥰

Always a treat getting a new bufy episode :) I am the same when it comes to relationships. I put very little weight on the way someone looks, I care more about what's on the inside, so I resonate with him as well. :)

Michael Short

You're definitely not alone in feeling sorry for the mummy. Her story was tragic and like you said there's parallels with Buffy and that's hardly steered into as a story beat. It's a tough one for everyone involved. I hadn't rewatched this one in a long time so it was great to watch it with you, Juliette!
