New Reaction Layout?

So I edited a Firefly episode today and tried out a new layout/editing look. Editing the reactions takes me a long time (5 hours usually on the first edit) and I had a suggestion that my camera be a bigger size. I tried editing with the camera the size in the image shown the whole way through, without the zoom ins that I've been doing. I think this has reduced the editing time and also allows for that bigger camera size the whole way! I edited this one in about 4 hours, which I think is pretty good for me.

The Firefly footage is a bit smaller, no longer taking up the entire full screen view.

I've spent some time over the weekend, looking at other channels and how they set it out. Most are either editing it with how you guys have been seeing (circle camera, full screen footage with blurred/removed parts), or their camera is full screen with the footage a smaller rectangle. This is kind of a mixture of both?

I'd love to know your initial thoughts! I'm pretty happy with how it looks and I hope you guys like the look of it, too? I might re-edit it so the camera is just a little bit smaller, so it's still a work in progress 😋

I'll start by saying that at the end of the day, you should edit the videos whichever way YOU prefer Juliette. But if you really do want to get solid feedback on your editing style then it might be best to make a community post on YouTube with screenshots showing different editing layouts, and then ask people whether they like A or B better. At least that way you'd get a better idea of what the majority of people like, rather than what the minority of people like. But like I said, the way YOU prefer is the best way. It's nice that you're open to feedback but try not to let yourself be influenced too much by the opinions of others. You can't make everyone happy so it's best to just go with what makes you happy.

I've swapped to the desktop as I can actually hit enter here without it posting the comment 🤭 OKAY, so I have to press SHIFT and ENTER to make a new paragraph. Who'd have thought computers would be so difficult 🤣 Thank you so much for your feedback, Leenis! I really appreciate it and it's given me a lot to think about. I thought initially this new style might save some time as there'd be less zooms so less buttons to press. But I ended up thinking about it a little more and I decided I might just stick with the usual way with the full screen footage and the circle camera as I think that looks really nice and it's been working for me so far. Why I have the urge to mess with things and change things up, I must have some screws loose 🥴 I do have a green screen actually! I used to record my gameplay videos with it but I don't like using it anymore. I am SO happy with the way my gameplay videos look now! Everything is working out really well there. I don't think I'll use the green screen for the reactions though. I find it pretty restrictive as sometimes the green screen doesn't work as well as it should 🥺 Thank you so much for your kind words!! I have re-edited the Firefly video that I edited the "new experimental way" back to the old way and I feel happy with that for the moment. I'm tempted to do camera full screen with the footage in a small box on the side like how Natalie Gold does it. That's probably one change I could look into doing if I can work out where to position my camera so it's off to the side more. I really do appreciate your help and advice! I might make little tweaks here and there but yeah, let's abandon that new experimental idea, hey 🤣🤣

Oof, now I feel guilty because you said you like it. I came off too harsh. It does set you apart, and I hope one comment doesn't have an outsized impact on your process. Most commenters haven't accomplished what you have, so our feedback should be like Milford graduates. Anyone know the reference? lol

Oh thank you so much for your comment! I really appreciate it and it's given me a few things to think about. Whoops, pressing enter posts the comment, I'll be back with more soon 🤣

First off, there is a reason you have had solid growth. You are a wonderful personality and we get to enjoy our games and movies with someone relatable - without us pestering our kids and rl friends. :P As long as you keep doing you, You will be fine. I wouldn't give constructive feedback on Youtube proper, but since this is Patreon, which is more selective, and feed back was solicited, I will be honest. I am not a fan. It feels both cluttered and claustrophobic, and has wasted real estate. I think you are better off just not doing the zoom on the old format, if that is your style and you need to cut back on editing. Personally I think you are both the star and reason people view your channel. You should recognize your value and embrace it. My suggestion is you either do full screen with the show in a small box, or you in front of a green screen, with any background you fancy projected while you talk before and after a show/lets play, and then whatever you are watching/doing can be placed on the green screen. Letts React is a channel that does that approach successfully. I imagine it is harder to set up but then A LOT easier to maintain and edit. Both methods seem successful. Maybe your lets-plays need to stay full screen so viewers can follow the game better. Just my non-experienced thoughts. ** speaking of value, why not set up a wish list on Amazon? Maybe someone can get you a green screen? :P That might be a way to upgrade hardware over time,, and it might set you on a course for having an affiliate link with your hardware setup under each video. EDIT: If you do stick with your new set up, I will still watch and stay subscribed. I don't think it will be a net negative on your channel. It will be a unique quirk. :)
