WELCOME TO ACTION BOYZ

bloodflart

he died on the way back to his home planet

bloodflart

Nooo! Did Captain Podcast have something to do with it?

Bishop

He's dead.

LRADIKAL

Me, to myself, unloading the dishwasher: "IT'S FOSBURY!"

Cromsicle

What happened to Stanger-Bot?

Bishop

New listener. Haven't listened to the ep yet just wanted to say I've been neglecting other podcasts to listen to action boys while I mountain bike. Glad to see the love for rollerball.

orc_daddy

listening to Rodgers talk about the enshitiification of LA and the entertainment industry knowing it was recorded before the fires and David Lynch's death put me in a bad place

John Carpenter's Patreon Commentator

The Stunt Man kicks ass. All time O'Toole performance in that one

Bring me the Head of Warren Oates

I use the JustWatch app for seeing what movies and shows are where. It works great for me. I can't remember if it's free, but if I paid for it, it was just a one time fee. Plex seems to work well too

meatlazer1

Right? If they don’t like the off-topic banter, they should check out any one of the other billion movie podcasts that are out there.

Wampa_One

Not sure Rodgers will ever see this, but I BELIEVE you can kind of use plex.tv to see what services a show/movie are on. At least in the limited testing I've done. Not sure on the accuracy, but try it out!

Not sure if anyone saw, but Gabrus is going to be at Ultimate Improv in Brooklyn next week (01/25). Buy a ticket even if you can't go - it's a LA Wildfire Relief Fundraiser, so it's for a great cause! https://concerts.livenation.com/the-ultimate-improv-show-brooklyn-new-york-01-25-2025/event/30006166C3CC281E?_gl=1*18oa8d0*_ga*MTEzODU1MzA3LjE3MzY5Njc4Nzk.*_ga_2CKRSEBXRK*MTczNjk2Nzg3OC4xLjEuMTczNjk2ODUwNi4wLjAuMA..*_gcl_au*OTgzMjg3MzU5LjE3MzY5Njc4Nzk.*_ga_C1T806G4DF*MTczNjk2Nzg3OS4xLjEuMTczNjk2ODUwNC4zNC4wLjA.*_ga_H1KKSGW33X*MTczNjk2Nzg3OS4xLjEuMTczNjk2ODUwNC4zNC4wLjA.

I can understand not grabbing a legitimately unlabeled roadside VHS due to the very real possibility of it being horrific crime footage, but not taking clearly labeled insane conspiracy VHS is a tragic misstep

Andrew Bond

On VHS finds; I inherited my dad's tapes last spring. Some awesome NFL films tapes, Walter payton highlights, then the Bears Championship games taped from tv. Then, I have 2 tapes labeled "9/11". Haven't watched yet but I'll report if there's any gold in them hills.

The poker talk reminded be of this section in Walter Isaacson's terrible "biography" about Elon Musk: "[Max] Levchin was at a friend’s bachelor pad hanging out with Musk. Some people were playing a high-stakes game of Texas Hold ‘Em. Although Musk was not a card player, he pulled up to the table. “There were all these nerds and sharpsters who were good at memorizing cards and calculating odds,” Levchin says. “Elon just proceeded to go all in on every hand and lose. Then he would buy more chips and double down. Eventually, after losing many hands, he went all in and won. Then he said “Right, fine, I’m done.” It would be a theme in his life: avoid taking chips off the table; keep risking them. That would turn out to be a good strategy. "

Connery's Codpiece

I went to a private high school that is famous for producing pro athletes. One of my classmates was a basketball player (white dude) who was expected to be a D1 star. He was the campus celebrity. My friend went up to him and said “youre really tall, you should play basketball”. The guy got so pissed and said he does play basketball, he’s (insert name). My friend never admitted to knowing who he was

Nolan-Globus

Absolutely not a golden age of gaming. Will not elaborate. Love the show

Kieran Steeves

Actually ActionBoyz I’m a real life drug user and no one on the street calls it “coke”, okay? We all call it “girl”

Timo Supremo

but they’re not tools. a child that age doesnt need any tools. it’s all dogshit developed with casino gambling technology.

Brendan Crowley

i can’t even pay my bills

Brendan Crowley

sure but

Brendan Crowley

Completely agree. That is a phenomenal podcast.

John Arminio

Anyone who wants a deep dive into the early part of Curtis Mayfield's life should check out the "People Get Ready" episode of Andrew Hickey's "A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs" podcast. Nuggets include how he tuned his guitar in such a way that no one else could play it (also why his chord progressions are so unique): https://500songs.com/podcast/episode-124-people-get-ready/

Korben's Mom

I know it’s a bit (and there can’t be more than a handful of assholes who complain) but I truly can’t understand the listeners who complain about them talking about life/politics/‘go off-topic’. It makes me, hypothetically and in my mind, shout ‘MF’er that IS the show!’. There are truly some dullards in this world who think that this is a down the line ‘movie’ podcast and that is Insane to me.

Morgan

In ‘95 or ‘96 I was on an Honors English school trip from Pittsburgh to Stratford, Ontario to visit the theater festival, one of the highlights was seeing Ron O’Neal play Othello. Guy was awesome. ( also saw Colm Fiore, THE Face/Off doctor play Cyrano)

Madeyouread

Hell yeah

Will See

The talk about people revolutionizing sports, reminded me of a dude who figured out how to jump longer (further?) but was banned as it was deemed too dangerous, and seeing the clips I think they were right. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qe0zi_fkyts

Trentin Quarantino

That’s not crazy it’s cool and also the vibe of the pod

away

The good news is that you have so much more access to good shit than any of the people who made good shit could have ever imagined The past is a rich country

I use it less and less. If only we had some video recordings of how cooler people lived cooler without it

The lifestyle podcast of 2025

Bill Devine

In light of what’s happening in Los Angeles currently, and the topic of Blacksploitation (I promise this isn’t a crazy leap)… I wanted to highlight The Washington Theater/ Cinema 21 - in North Pasadena/Altadena. It serviced the redlined community of Altadena, and was ahead of its time, becoming one of the first black owned theaters in Southern California, in 1972 (Same year as Superfly). There have been multiple campaigns to try to restore or revive the area and it just never happened. I lived a couple blocks away for several years and it sucked to see it decay. I’m hoping that the area sees some revitalization after this terrible event. https://losangelestheatres.blogspot.com/2019/11/cinema-21.html?m=1

Conor Hunter

I knew if I listened to the Action Boyz long enough, they would talk about the Fosbury flop and give it the attention it deserves.

David Bauer

Super glad we're in the enshitification stage of most of our entertainment and any other consumable good. https://web.archive.org/web/20240208152542/https://www.ft.com/content/6fb1602d-a08b-4a8c-bac0-047b7d64aba5

Mijo

Rodgers on a real tear on this episode and I'm here for it. Lifestyle pod be damned!!

LongOnions

also gotta share this, for my money one of the best cover medleys. Pucho & His Latin Soul Brothers - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOjIpWkRMRg

Kevin

It’s so fucked update because you could download a plug-in for chrome to get results from non AI sites. Now they’ve completely patched out that capability. We have officially entered the Dead Internet era

Tristan Pennell

You’re a ‘dummy’ if you don’t love “Oddity”.

Paul

The Steve Railsback talk made me hope that they cover ‘The Stunt Man’ at some point; Railsback sat behind me during a screening of that movie, and he talked so much that it was like a live audio commentary; And speaking of ‘The X-Files’, he said during the Q&A afterwards that most people recognize him as his character from that show.

Frank Kimball

Dude! How good is oddity!! Loved it.

David McElroy

My son has been using a table since he was about three, he's seven now so the Nintendo Switch has taken the throne...but like anything else it's all about moderation. Set time limits, be aware of what he is watching, and go about it like you would every other aspect of parenting. It's a challenge, but so is everything about being a parent. And yeah, kids will play stupid shit if you let them. They'll watch stupid movies and watch stupid cartoons if you let them, too. It's all about what you give them access to.

Michael Daniels

I’ve found Plex’s watchlist feature to be a great justwatch alternative

Kyle

Gabrus: the word you were thinking of is “Ur-Text”

Sluderesque

I could go for some RC Cola right now

Bob Brown

You're a king of the psychos, don't fight it dear bloodfart. ILL NEVER STOP GLAZING AND TOPPING.

When they're 3 it's strictly Nokia products

PODCAST HOST GLAZER

I just want to reiterate what others have said, that I hope the Boyz are doing ok and are safe. This is all... very terrifying and I feel terrible for the people of Los Angeles.

John Arminio

thank you for making me look less psychotic

bloodflart

it's a tool so it's all about how you use it, or let them use it.

bloodflart

Can’t believe the action boyz would be so ignorant about suicide by plastic bag, they should obviously be using a paper bag, it’s more eco friendly

Ryan Quinn

Oh yeah... IG got me with the 50 year old moms getting dressed algorithm too. Probably because I scroll through their entire feed if one pops up on my TL, haha.

Brash Tracks

The fact that he's three and you're not using tablets as a babysitter tells me you're doing a good job.

Ashley

Eddie was in blackface right? At the end scene, I could see a line on his neck where the make up was not being applied.

Jeff

Kathryn Bigelow, Bam Bam’s kid

Jon Smith

Just want to reiterate the reelgood.com reco.

Willie Wood

Stay safe out there, Boyz. Some good Stallone stories from Henry Winkler on last week’s TCM Talking Pictures pod.

JamieQT

So if anyone somehow knows that guy who had the X-files episodes with commercials contact me please

PatrickKilbrogan

My son is 3 and hearing Gabrus describe kids iPad games terrifies me. I know technology use is inevitable but my plan is to just push it off to the future as long as I can.

Aww thx! Just saying.

PODCAST HOST GLAZER

Hope you guys are doing as well as possible 🙏 I noticed JustWatch was terrible years ago, so I've been using ReelGood and it's accurate 99% of the time

Frankenstein Created Woman is fun as hell. From the era when Hammer had to go more R-rated to keep audiences

Adam Ross

Probably not the right time to be saying this. Just sayin.

searching "daytime for sleeping" is a great start. Adding an indicative word/term like "song" is gonna change your life. Like "daytime for sleeping pornhub" will really narrow it down for you. here - https://lmgtfy2.com/s/NsCfVp. love you bye

PODCAST HOST GLAZER

Scrubbing for nothin' and your chicks for free

Callum Taylor

This cold open has to be in like the top 3 funniest of all time. Hope all the Boyz are safe and holding it down out there ❤️

Brix

Also, kinda funny/depressing the number of creative people on my twitter feed who've been subtweeting stuff like: "hey fyi, now is not the time to be sending your script to people in Hollywood"

Eugenio Triana

Easily sits in the top 5 all-time soundtracks by a recording artist. Curtis Mayfield was such a talent.

Morgan

Hope the residents of Val Verde are safe and sound. Aussie fans are thinking of you.

Shoops

Rodgers talking about how tough it has been in LA recently in an episode recorded right before the worst fires in decades really brings home the point. Hope everyone is doing ok

Eugenio Triana

I hope all the Boyz are safe from the fires in LA. Thoughts and prayers going out to you from a loyal UK listener.

Firan McKinlay

killer soundtrack on this one
