Terminal Velocity (1994)

Fortunately in this day and age, there’s nothing terminal about this week’s pick. We’re talking about Ditch Brodie and the gang from that other 90’s skydiving movie - TERMINAL VELOCITY

Under “trivia” on Wikipedia for bubblicious right after the entry about their world record for most bubble gum bubbles blown at one time. “In June 2013, former New England Patriots Tight End Aaron Hernandez was linked to a murder by his purchase of Blue Cotton Candy Bubblicious.”

This is one of those great ABZ movies that feels totally reverse engineered off something a writer heard like "if you hit terminal velocity they can't identify the body" and the writer thought wow that's a great idea for a whodunit and Terminal Velocity is a great name for the movie . . . we could get a skydiver hero, but who would be the bad guys . . . Russians!!

I think about that one a lot. The audience reaction was great.

The all-time best Conan “Actual Items” bit was a Christmas ad for a train going around a Christmas tree. There’s a little kid asleep in front of the tree and the caption says “Dead kid sold separately.”

the military jump school Tom Cruise did is the military free fall school, first week is in Ft. Bragg where you do the wind tunnel, rest is in Yuma AZ. Static line jumping is what they did over Normandy in D-Day, not usually done commercially because you only freefall for about 4-6 seconds and the parachutes and very different. Sky diving you jump from 10K-20K feet, up to 30ish, static line you jump from 1500ish usually. Freefall course is 4 or 5 weeks usually but can take longer depending on plane availability and weather, it wouldn't be hard to do it in a shorter time if you had ppl on the ground helping you and you had dedicated aircraft that weren't getting pulled for real world missions.

Stanger brining up the off screen fan deaths in this and Funhouse reminded me of the great on screen death in Alien 3 where the guy is diced in full view
