King of New York (1990)

From now on, nothing goes down unless the ABZ are involved. No podcast commercials, no Stitcher deals, no nothing. Somebody joins another Pateron from the park, we want in. All those hosts got fat while everybody shhtaved on the street. Now it’s our turn.

Enjoy KING OF NEW YORK.

Hell yeah

Ferrara wasn’t really slumming it with Body Snatchers (1993) so much as he was going back to his roots. His first feature after directing porn was Driller Killer, a low budget slasher movie. Body Snatchers was reviewed well and competed at Cannes.

Matt Toots

King of new York also known as the stanger pervert apology episode not to be confused with the ice cream episode

Christopher Myers

Yes I was going to suggest The Addiction. I used to love that movie in high school when I discovered Bad Lieutenant and Ferraras other work.

Matt G.

I’m happy they mentioned Frank’s towncar. I found it, and really every 80s big body on frame American car in the movie, to be so compelling. Even watching b-roll of 80s NYC traffic looks cinematic imo.

Wadi

Anyone else think joey wasn’t fully with Frank? I thought Joey was sort of a middle man like Stanger said because when Larry talks to him at the movie theater he says Frank has to pay for Joey’s cut so it would seem like he gets a commission from other gangs on successful deals he sets up? Also I did not look this up to verify but pretty sure their drug den where the cops raid is now a Time Out Experience in dumbo- like an overpriced “high end” food court. Or it’s a west elm I think. Curious if the boys think Criterion Channel has put movies like this and The Long Googbye more on peoples radar. Their new New York Stories collection is amazing. Has this, Taking of Pelham 1 2 3 and some other great New York movies.

IssaHotdogaSandwich

I have been thinking that this ridiculous story has a weird amount of juice and i feel like someone will maybe write a movie or doc about it? A movie where a comedian admits something so crazy and his former costars go on to great success could be pretty funny. Could fit with the ABZ dynamic

itsyourcousinstjean

Where Eagles Dare (1968) is on HBO Max.

Michael Pemulis

Oh man I was scrolling to see if someone posted this and you sniped it. It's so funny.

Abuse story - 13 years ago I went to Mexico City to meet my girlfriends parents. They lived in a really nice place. Like. 1 floor in an apartment building. You could hear everything. Anyway, 2 nights in her parents get into an argument and mom slugs dad. She was 2” taller, in good shape. He had a fat lip and spent rest of my time there on couch. I was relocated to brothers room.

Hammerthrust Von Sexron

I need to know more about the moth eating

Taryn Reed

what're you some kind of Navy Doctor or somethin

bloodflart

PSA: Tampons do not work for bullet holes, they aren’t sterile, don’t expand like you would expect and the cotton lining shit gets stuck to the inside of wounds and complicates debridement and healing. Much better off dumping a root beer float in there….

As someone who has a huge crush on both Asia Carrera and Tia Carrera I found that cold open very nice. Just a weird note from the sauna: my brother was doing some stunt flying/driving on a movie Tia was in and she convinced my brother to get hair transplant surgery after he mentioned it in passing. Quite frankly either person could convince me to do anything. Also, my brother's ass hair on his head doesn't look too bad. Thanks as always Action Boyz.

Rob Tebow

Bad Lieutenant for next year's Sportstember? Best baseball movie of all time.

Moira's Machine

Here's your two dollars!

bloodflart

it's cool having something that's actually funny that I can watch with the kids

The Bar looks like Zablawski’s in Williamsburg

Panda Style

So I’ve had this take, it’s not a particularly good take. I’ve had it for a while, but there was never a good justification to share it. Now, I don’t mean this as an insult or roast, but I’ve always gotten this “N64 character” vibe from Gabrus. Big extroverted personality, large frame with high athleticism. The bold solid primary colors he often wears, contrasted with his dark hair/beard. So in this episode, when he said he got a job as a bouncer/concierge at a pizza joint after “eating the biggest moth the owner had ever seen”…Honestly it was kinda validating.

Joe B

I donlike to comment. At all. But.... DIRTY WORK FOR SHADOW WOLVES.

Neat Guy

This is the Casualties of War episode

bloodflart

What about Gulliver and the tiny little horse king? I suppose that story was FUCKING BULLSHIT TOO?!?!? I don’t know what to think anymore…… fuck you guys

Shut It Off

Thank you Boyz for mentioning The Deer Hunter. I was born in '78 but still this was not on my radar.. Walken performance had me in tears. Please put that movie on your to do list soon!

Will V

AZB/Teen Comedy Crossover News: Watched both “He’s All That” and “Plan B” this weekend and on one of them referenced Gymkata. No chance in remembering which one but “Plan B” is funny and great, “He’s All That” fully and completely sucks and likely is the one with the Gymkata reference. We are a not for profit ABZ/Teen Comedy news corps. so go easy on the reporting!

Ray Ray

For what it’s worth, I love Lower Decks. It might be my favorite Trek

Matthew Ball

Best opener ever. Can only be matched with Rodgers or Gabrus Apologies…

I like this world

bloodflart

that thing at the start was the best stanger bot bit ive heard

Chad Salad

Anybody else turn up the volume as Stanger faded out? Master stroke by Kevin, nothing like a good laugh in rush hour traffic.

Bob Brown

The only t-shirt I ever bought from a Hot Topic was a King of New York T-shirt. I went to go see if that particular one was available anywhere and I found only one and it was being resold for 300 dollars. I wished I had kept mine and not gotten fat.

Jack McReynolds

I was so excited to hear y’all cover this one, love this movie. I was rolling at “let’s get some Plan B for the table”

Owen RX-0

Absolutely adore this film. Walken and Fishburne are such an odd pairing that work surprisingly, extremely well!

K-Dot

Wow, Janet Julian, Walken's hot lawyer/mistress who he is on the train with... her current name is Janet Landsbury and she's a famous writer about parenting. My wife has been making me read her articles and books for like 4 years, this is blowing my mind.

Eric U

Don't forget Frank Black, the main character of Millennium.

Joe Gunch

They gotta do Smokey and the Bandit if they wanna do a Burt Reynolds movie.

John Blood

Rodgers confusing Hardee’s with the Canadian chain Harvey’s, boy does he have egg on his face for that blunder (Canadian A&W being pretty good is a relatively recent thing though so he gets a pass on that)

JayK

All that work from Stanger when they could have just asked Kevin to not dox Tia/Asia.

Jesse Crap

Chump and herb should def make a comeback

Suzadooz

I just realized I’ve been mistakingly saying “Chasy Lane” when I have been referring to Jessica Tandy for years. Thanks Stanger!

Elizabeth Warren Moon

dont defend them my man they threatened to shoot you

MB

Honestly, who amongst us has not confused Asia/Tia Carrera at some point?

Nicholas Pettigrew

Also Jadakiss on “We Gone Make It”; “but come and see me at the Plaza Hotel, I might give you a job”

Angstforthememories

From now on, nothing goes down unless I'm involved. No podcasts, no Patreon deals, no nothing. A commentary track gets recorded in Valverde, I want in. You guys got fat while everybody starved on the street. Now it's my turn.

Angstforthememories

Thank you!

Boogie

I love Stanger's recorded that extra opener for an episode where he also said "You've gotta hand it to R Kelly..."

Boogie

California Split for me (degenerate gambler)! George Segal doing work too.

Bob Brown

The Apology Episode

Smokey Queso

Here’s a video of the best of Abel Ferrara’s commentary for this movie. Guy is a maniac. https://twitter.com/JFrankensteiner/status/1436560353958285317

Blake

With Rodgers on movies suddenly becoming everyones favorite movie. I remember watching The Long Goodbye in high school (2002ish?) and being blown away by it and loving with a friend but then suddenly in the past few years theres been this big explosion of new love for Elliott Gould...which is great! But just very interesting to see.

Scott Tammel

Weird choice on the editors part to splice in the infamous “hanging out with my family” performance from “Birdemic” right after the raid on the Asian gangsters. But somehow they make it work ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sam Riebesehl (Reeb-Uh-Shell)

I reffed an adult dodge ball league in San Francisco. People would lose their damn minds, yelling and screaming about calls I made they didn't like.

Irvin

For the record I am proud to subscribe to the podcast of the man who ruined the entire Star Trek franchise in one episode

Diarrhea_Every_Day

Stranger talking about porn made me think: was the time he was jacking it to Twitter in hospital and got loose with his liking-finger related to Stanger almost dying?

Alan

Thought this was a doc about Rannazzisi.

ryan johnson

Losing my shit at the cold cold open apology. A hearty God bless to you too, Stanger! I love you!

MB

As a Canadian and father of 2, I treat my family to A&W meals at least once a month. Its a time honoured tradition. As a young boy I have very many fond memories of dining at A&W w/my family, and in those times they were unique in that they were exclusively drive in diners. Imagine my delight seeing young woman teetering on roller skates to serve me my burger, fries and of course, root beer in a frosted glass. Rodgers's vitriol and completely unnecessary attack on this beloved Canadian franchise left me feeling bewildered, saddened and ultimately, alienated. Regretfully, I must annul my membership to the Action Boyz after today's episode.

Garbage Collector #2

I loved Stanger's vulnerability. "Look, we all know about my brain and I am a pervert."

Irvin

No, just someone with good taste.

Michael Pemulis

With all the Walken talk I just want to bring this clip to everyone's attention: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5OEXbaJHDkE&feature=youtu.be

Dustin

I’m known as the fucking glitter boy of my friend group. The dance that Jump and Frank white do when they see each other for the first time when he gets out of prison is one of my favorite movie scenes ever

AFistfulofGwildors

Glad I watched this one, and now finally understand some rap lyrics I've heard 1000 times. Biggie on "The What" calls himself the Black Frank White (is here to excite, throw dick to dykes). Then on Tupac's "Hit Em Up" Frank White need to get spanked right for setting traps. I never knew who the fuck frank white was til now, and it makes sense he would love this movie, and it's title. From the song "Respect"; Scarface, king of New York I wanna be it. Ok that's all.

Dan Skisak

One of my favorite 'money in the briefcase' fake outs!

Flying_bOLUS

I love Stanger. I wish he was my brother.

Jason E Becker

I had Stanger in my sights. Another extrajudicial hit on behalf of the PC Police. It's good money, but sometimes it don't feel right. I was about to take the shot when they heard Stanger's message and told me to stand down. Bless y'all, one less thing to answer for when I meet my maker.

Maudline Wellbright

The Venn diagram for listeners of this show and people who do not know who Asia Carrera is - they don’t overlap

Diarrhea_Every_Day

I thought something serious was being discussed.

Swimfan69

As a lifelong pervert, I would have just rolled with the error until Stanger pointed it out. I’m glad you got out in front of it though! I mean, you guys are assholes but you’re not fuckin’ assholes!

Shawn W Savage

IMO Best Walken performance: Fatboy Slim - Weapon Of Choice music video

Chabnormal

A long time ago on the internet - possibly even in The Sauna - I remember a guy posting about how he saw Tia Carrere on the street and accidentally called her Asia Carrere (which pissed her off, natch). Whether it was true or not, it stuck with me and whenever I would see her in something, I always thought of that story and wondered "how many other people probably did the same thing?"

Joe Gunch

Hardest laugh from any action boyz episode only a minute in

Alex Elani

Came here to say this. Whatever’s got him feeling guilty that day just have him start off the pod with it it’s fucking gold

Alex Elani

The Funeral is so underrated, both in terms of 90s Ferrara and Walken in lead roles. He also plays a New York crime boss but in the 30s, and he's somehow brothers with both Vincent Gallo and Chris Penn (who plays a truly unhinged psycho). also The Addiction is a pretty fun artsy "vampires are just like drug addicts" movie.

Dark Angel Of The Year

Lol get Stanger all confused. He's not racist just a horn dog.

Megan

Man... Another one of those movies I've only ever seen edited for TV on Fox 19 on a sunday Afternoon.

The Great Jizzard of 76'

Stanger isn't racist his brain just don't work too good

bloodflart

ABZ should do DEER HUNTER!!!

JT

Recently watched New Rose Hotel. It looks amazing, it’s incredibly sexy, and there’s barely a plot. It’s fun!

Sean

double cold open, weird

Cole Frohling

Showed my wife The Long Goodbye for the first time last weekend. It was my mum who is a pulp noir fanatic that showed me it when I was a teen. Does that make her a pre-hipster?

Dave McM

Shoutout to those huge, wet, meaty squibs at the end, I actually rewound it and went "they don't make them like that anymore" to myself in an empty room.

Dark Angel Of The Year

I say begin every episode with a Stanger apology.

Paul

Pre-show corrections as a regular segment might finally push an episode over 4 hours.

Dark Angel Of The Year

3 hours and 11 minutes?!? What's up with the short episodes as of recent 🥲

Nitram

Stanger addressing the audience at the beginning caught me off guard.
