TL Notes: 

• ̶V̶e̶s̶p̶i̶ ̶ – Subsequently: Another hard-reaching pun, referring to this queen bee.
• Sarunori Inn: A covert reference to African Salaryman, a surreal satire on office life featuring an anthro lion, lizard and toucan. Sarunori is the Japanese name of this monkey.
• Twerpy teenagers: Referring to late 2000s UK comedy The Inbetweeners.  
• #protecpeko: Referring to this hamster.  I don’t actually remember seeing that much of a reaction to it, now I think about it…
• アーケオスちゃん (Archeotch-chan): A portmanteau of this feathered dinosaur’s Japanese name and the early 20th Century Japanese novel Botchan  by夏目 漱石 Natsume Sōseki. Said novel centres on the troubled titular protagonist’s coming-of-age and fashioning his own moral compass in an increasingly Westernised Japan. Perfect reading for Kuroki adapting to a new land, wouldn’t you say? If curious, you can read it in English here. 
• 吾輩はエネコである (I Am a Skitty): A portmanteau of this cat, and another of Sōseki’s novels, I Am A Cat. The official translated title doesn’t quite convey the self-important tone in using 我輩 wagahai, rather than 私 watashi, so technically I think it should read as “I’ll Have You Know, I Am a Cat”. Anyway, like Botchan, the novel also focuses on Japan being Westernised, but far more satirically as it’s from a feline perspective. Funnily enough, it was one of the first Japanese novels to be officially translated in English and remains in-print and on sale to this day.  
• “Skurr”: The first five seconds of this video made me laugh. I spend way too much time on the internet…
