Poking Around Pt 77

Oh ye dogs… it’s done! This took a lot longer to come together than I expected. And I’m disappointed in a way that I couldn’t progress the plot much further than beyond a cheap cliffhanger. But at least I was able to establish just how many did turn up for this meeting.
OK, plot starts next page. Promise. Thank you again for supporting this story. TL Notes for the not-obvious stuff below.
TL Notes
- “Atoll80”: Spoofing American phone provider AT&T.
- “Snoverizon”: A portmanteau of this beastie and this other US phone provider, Verizon.
- #異世界いい感じ: A portmanteau of this... product, and ii kanji いい感じ (feeling good!), which is a subversion of the Japanese Team Rocket's ya na kanji やな感じ ('this feels bad!', often fansubbed as 'this sucks!'). Of course, in English they went with the iconic "Team Rocket's blasting off again!" *twinkle*.
- “You gone clopped up y’fillies”: A filly is a young female horse. Why this was put in...
- ExSpearow: A portmanteau of this bird and this brand of smartphone.
- ゴゴゴゴ: Japanese onomatoepeia for heavy rumbling, usually to imply how intimidating a character is. This was popularised by JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure which led to a bazillion memes I didn't understand until I saw it recently used in African Salaryman. Kadokawa/Funimation went with "menacing intensifies".
- 我利私利: A portmanteau of gari 我利 (self-interest) and shiri 私利 (personal profit).
- 異世界: It says isekai (ideal/fantasy/parallel world).
- 会: It’s cut off but it’s supposed to say 会合 kaigo (meeting)
- “Good”: Referring to a rather out-of-character moment for Zelda.
- “Weeb”: A derogatory slang term for Western Japanese enthusiasts.
- “Hold up esé”: An esé is a Hispanic way of saying dude/bro. Funny story behind this – for the longest time, I thought Electivire was pronounced “Elect-TEEV-ruh”, something reinforced when watching Victor and Valentino (I love Victor’s accent). So I only found out recently that it’s Elect-t'VIRE. Oops. Anyway, the mix-up led to this character, El Terrible (pronounced El Ter-REE-bleh).
