Was on a roll - felt really inspired and motivated. Took a while but I’m glad I did it and pushed myself on the backgrounds and locations again. The view in the first panel is loosely based on a view of Honolulu, which Ho’oume City is loosely based on… well, that and Hau’oli City. Anyway, Hino’s Irish accent will be limited just to the ‘teh’s’ and dropped ‘g’s.

Please enjoy and thank you once again for supporting this story, which don’t worry, will get to the point. I just don’t like long exposition dumps or awkward dialogue – which kinda came out through Hino. Oops. Anyway, plenty of TL notes this time so let’s get on with it.

TL Notes:

“Electic Big-Guy-a-Roo”: Based on this … ‘meme’…? Think of it as a spiritual ancestor to that short-lived “And Knuckles” meme that was floating around…
Jackanory: an old children’s show from my childhood where they read different stories. Its spiritual successor is the Cbeebies Bedtime Stories. The US equivalent would be [Insert Celebrity’s Name Here] Reads a Bedtime Story.
Mount Makani: Makani is the catch-all word for wind in Hawaiian, though Hawaiians have different words to describe different kinds of wind.
“Turbine-butt”: referring to this beast.
“Downtown-featherduster”: referring to this one.
“Slime-slug”: This thing. Fun fact; I tried drawing a more masculine one of these once…
“Don’t have the monsterballs”: A sly reference to this popular anime – I really wanted to work in a Rock the Dragon reference but couldn’t fit it in.
Tougé Pass: 峠 touge means mountain pass, or ‘difficult area to navigate’.
Shellon Gas: Portamanteau of the actual Shell corporation and this one, Shellos.
“Wonderful Life on T’is Planet”: Referring to Wonderful Life by Mikio Sakai, the closing credits theme for the space-drama anime Planetes (Greek for wanderer, based on the ancient belief the planets drifted through the stationary stars like boats in a still ocean, all revolving around the Earth).
“Roll Downhill at T’Speed of Sound”: Probably the best first-level-in-a-video-game theme ever.
Square Station: Reference to where a significant portion of where the first 3D Sonic video game, Sonic Adventure was set. I really liked the theme.
がやがや: “gayagaya” is the Japanese onomatopoeia for noisy chatter.
“Oh No, y’didn’…!”: based on this interpretation of April O’Neal. If she had a name, this character would be Avril O’Tarshey (a corruption of オタチ Otachi, Sentret’s Japanese name). Fun fact – it is actually illegal for minors to ride their bikes helmetless in some parts of the US, and interestingly, Karachi.
“What’s that? A living statue?”: I’m not sure how common these are outside of the UK and cheap hidden-camera gag shows, so here’s the Wiki.
“Hachiko”: Reference to a famous shiba-inu dog.
“Michiko”: Reference to one half of the titular characters of the anime Michiko and Hatchin, one of very few anime to have a predominantly non-Caucasian/non-Japanese cast and set in a ficitionalised South America.
“Everything’s so nice when I’m dreamin’”: This song.
Carracosta Coffee: A mash-up of this sea-turtle and this UK coffee-chain equivalent of Starbucks.
“WAAASSSSUUUP!”: To rub an old beer-soaked chestnut...
Jichō: 慈鳥 another Japanese word for crow/raven, though 烏 karasu is used much more commonly.
