Ladies of the 80’s: April Eagle (Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs)

Here’s the latest Ladies from the 80s for Fan Art Friday, and it’s a bit obscure I think for at least some of us: Say hello to April Eagle from Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs, another anime imported after the popularity of Voltron and Robotech. I myself don’t remember much about it except the theme song, and title character’s unusual armor inspired by early 19th century military uniforms which was an interesting inclusion given the show’s overall Wild West inspired aesthetic. Oh, and there was a giant transforming robot that looked like a cowboy and sounded like Optimus Prime.

Went back and forth on which look to use for April here, the token female of the team (behold the pink pilot armor!). Searching Google it almost seemed her every day outfit—a skin tight red sleeveless jumpsuit with high heels and a very Dave Cockrum-esque blue sash around the hips—was more iconic, but I ultimately went with the more action figure friendly armor. Maybe I’ll do the other look someday.
