2024 Year in Review and a Look Ahead

Hello! Here we are at New Year's eve and 2024 is nearly in the books. Polling for the best of 2024 according to you, our members, will continue through Saturday. Some interesting and tight races, especially for best TF sketch and character of the year, both of which are in a tie right now, last I looked. These are both consequential too because the TF sketch winner gets a makeover in full color, and the character of the year of course gets a special pinup for Valentine's day. I was happy to see Dana Meadows shoot to a big lead early in the voting, but it looks like Julie Kim is not ready to let her winning streak end just yet!

2024 was definitely a mixed bag for me. You've heard enough about my ups and downs personally, with an unexpected new kitten added to the family on one hand, and the loss of my wife's car on the other. But creatively it was uneven as well... I went into the year planning to shift more to original characters and rely less on She-Hulk stuff, and it turned out to be a pretty Shulkie year, with two Jen Sequences, a Betty sequence, another Betty TF, pinups with Bobbie and Ashley, and finally a new Shulkie Inspired character, Janine David, aka Green Genes (though one I am pretty happy with and hope to revisit). While i was able to get the one-two-three monthly color pinups, TF sketch, and TF pinup, I wasn't able to close the deal on the Halloween TF. I also feel like compared to 2023, my commission output was lacking. Given the distractions this year I guess that's to be expected, but it was still frustrating, especially for the clients who had to wait months for their pieces to be completed. I will need to do better on that this coming year.

Still, I am pleased with the work I did do. The JennyAngry sequence is my favorite of the year, and the response to the Betty '03 sequence... which I was able to complete by Christmas! has been great. Managed to get a short Julie sequence in as well for her many fans. The "Ladies of the 80's" series kind of sputtered out but I'm happy with pretty much all the ones I did do. I definitely want to get back to that next year, but that's a topic for the next post.

One thing I am happy about is the continued support I've received during what, to me, has been an uneven year. I was especially and pleasantly surprised to see all the new members pop up over the last month or so. Not sure if word of mouth has been out there, or the Betty '03 sequence was the draw, or if the public posting of Julie Takes Wing over at dA got people interested, but I'm thrilled to see it just the same.
